Scripture No Word Needed (Level)
This CD, by Montreal composer/producer Jean-Pierre Isaac, is a real treat. The Montreal music scene’s answer to Brian Eno, Isaac has helped produce and arrange so much French Canadian music that, chances are, any Québécois artist you may have heard of, Isaac has collaborated with (and, yes, that includes Mitsou). His début album is a limber, luxuriant package that starts in ambient territory and expands in several directions at once. It’s reminiscent of Delerium but, by the album’s mid-point, it’s clear that Isaac’s technical mastery and intensity are all his own. Only Apache, a tremulous guitar ballad, seems like a misstep. No Word Needed is a delightful ride and a strong assurance that the Québec music scene is in good hands.
