Philippines? Tell all your friends about the Sailing on a Grapefruit Lake compilation and that now is the best time of the year to listen to it

Estonia is one of absolute favorite countries that I've never actually had the pleasure of visiting. It's certainly on my bucket list. That it seems to have so many great bands - Pia Fraus first and foremost among them - is one they definitely have going for them. But if I got to see them and similar bands performing on a weekly basis, hell, I'd learn Estonian just to have that privilege.

It's one of the few non-Indo-European languages left in Europe. (The others are Maltese, Basque, Hungarian and Finnish). It's related to Finnish and more distantly to Hungarian. So I would imagine it's harder to learn than most other European languages. I speak a little German, but that probably wouldn't be much use here. Still, I'd be up for that. Pia Fraus also sing in Estonian (as "Imandra Lake"), and there's another band, She Bit Her Lip, that also only sings in Estonian. Now, I'm sure that their lyrics are awesome; they could be singing about a grandmother's recipe for smoked cod, and I'd never know the difference. Still, I'd love to know Estonian well enough to translate them myself.

It's enough to make me wish I was Estonian. How awesome must your country to be to successfully throw off the Soviet yoke, successfully and smoothly transition to liberal democracy overnight, take off economically like a rocket, AND produce so many great bands, with Pia Fraus leading the pack? Something in that water...

I'd love nothing better! I have no idea how I'd afford it, but I do know people who study post-Communist regimes, so I just need to talk my way into a trip. For purely scholarly purposes, you understand. Seeing Pia Fraus or She Bit Her Lip or Picnic would just be a side-thing.

Well now, I found it pretty surprising when I first put their recent compilation release a spin. The songs themselves are given an entirely new perspective, some of them even being actually re-recorded specifically for this release. I don't think I've ever seen that, especially for a best of release.
