"include no line of condemnation anywhere" - Of course...other than the fact that everyone says they've lost their boy David (to the National Front of course). How much more obvious can this be? Everyone in your life says they've lost you because you're off to a National Front event. No, this is not a good thing.

He had a great band at that point. Saw them live in about 1995. They were fantastic.

regardless of its intent or its writer's intent, it is a fantastic pop song and it's not worth condemning it over the title "national front disco" - because lyrically, the rest is preeeetty much innocuous.

The existence of a National Front disco is perfect irony. And this song is a story about a boy. It's not Morrissey's manifesto or him singing in the first person. I'm sorry if art is too hard for you.

Morrissey never ceases to give me the chills. Really like this version. SO used to the live one off Beethoven was deaf but this studio one almost equals it ;-) Viva Moz ;-P

I think the people who have misunderstood this song simply haven't bothered to listen to the whole song, but simply focused on the line "England for the English". To be able to call this song racist you have to take that line out of its context and not get what he's trying to say here.

This is Morrissey's bravest song. He is really brave for singing the lyric 'England for the English'. Though, I never listen to this song to loudly in public in case anyone thinks I'm a member of the Bastard Nazi Party (BNP).
