The music matches the emotion of this song so perfectly. One of the greatest storyteller songs of all-time.

This is one of those songs where the sounds evoke such a specific mood, you could almost understand the emotion without the lyrics. Pretty amazing song.

I've always loved this song. (I live in the Great Lakes area and work at a steel mill, so yeah, we all know the tale...) :)

Of course the melody is "redundant" it sets the tone for what is a seeming poem with music accompanying it. I believe she took water plunged her bow and split abeam when her nose tried to pull up.

Love this song! God it's so well orchestrated, from the vocals to the tune.. I'm from Wisconsin so when he sings that bit, my family goes crazy, lol... Haunting and a good song to play during a rainy night...

In the summer of 2010, I took my youngest (7 yrs old) to see Gordon. We had great seats and had a great time. When TWC did a tribute on the thirty fifth anniversary of the accident, she saw this and remembered the concert. She said "Dad, should we pray for the twenty nine men who died?" I asked her how she new there were twenty nine who died? "It's in the song." What a way to be memorialized. Great Job Mr. Lightfoot.

Creeps me out still. When I was a kid on the Washington State Ferrys,I occasionally went at night or when it was rough out and you can bet this song was the last thing I wanted to hear but one time I had a radio and guess what?Yup.This song. The line "Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?" has got to be the eeriest thing I've ever heard. And that wailing guitar!!!
