The fact that people are still nonplussed about this album shows that CBL has had some level of mainstream success as far as electronic music goes. The notion of "where's the beats?" has the same ring to it as "where's the drop?". Phenomenal album with great dronescapes. The VLA edit is my most played track from them.

This album is Refraction 1.33 or Betula Pendula extended. I can see how some people might be turned off, but it's the kind of thing you put on as you're trying to sleep. It's the other facet of the sound they're trying to make; if some beats were added to this, it would be no different than Hydroponic Garden.

Idk, by going beatless they kind of lost most of what was interesting about them. This is just pretty nondescript ambient music, like an album of Steve Roach's weakest tracks.

I really wish I'd known about this album when I'd still been doing mxe. This is beyond incredible.

Currently I feel that although the previous albums are amazing in their own right, this record is almost spiritual and it goes beyond what they have done. The only flaw for me personally is putting Somewhere in Russia so up in the list - after it ANYTHING would sound a bit underwhelming.

Their darkest and deepest album. Very spacey atmosphere, i love it very much but Hydroponic Garden is still their best

The more I listen to this album, the more I like it. Coincidence? I think not! It's somewhat different from their earlier works, but I like it! Great stuff!

They definitely went more ambient with this one [3]. I prefer earlier tracks..more alive.

I agree with bandass. It's very Biosphere-like album, but still it's CBL as we know them.

An incredible connection between the artwork, track titles and the phylosophy of the tracks. Try to search for VLA or Arecibo, both are great telescopes / radio telescopes.

I still think that this one lacks the grandeur that WOS and HG had. It's a great album, certainly better than Interloper. But I think that CBL evolves thru a certain blueprint and it's evolution can be seen, from underwater life to a stargazing human being. Still a great wonderful album, worth of Twentythree (many) spins. ;)

It's quite different to their other works so far. But if you take your time to get into the music, you'll love it.
