Panopticon : Collapse - this is his latest, and it's downright awesome. Some definitely moody feels here and there, and there's even some banjo playing (yes, I said banjo playing). 1349: Hellfire - THIS ALBUM WILL TEAR YOU A NEW ASSHOLE if you are not ready for it. Just be ready for blastbeats and sick riffage a plenty. This album is like getting hit by a (I think beautiful personally) wall of sound. Absu: Tara - Proscriptor, who is the Vokills and Drummer for the band fucking kills. This is like thrashy/black metal, and it's very fun to listen to. The album even starts off with a bagpipe intro to set the mood, and it rules. Emperor: In The Nightside Eclipse - great recommendation by mr crepe and probably one of the most quintessential black metal albums ever. Personal Recs for you since you might like some of the kvlt shit: Bone Awl - Meaningless Leaning Mess - Just found out about these dudes and they rule. Vordr - I - On the same regards as Awl for me, but you might like it!

Dear Kevin; i hate to say it, but i was lurking your last.fm hard. i see you got some black metal recommendations from mr crepe down below. if you are confused on what albums to get from which of those bands, here are some to name a few: see above

Oh god do I ever. Most of what I like typically falls into either new school or second wave Norway territory so I'll kind of break it up. Newer bands that clearly grew up listening to Godspeed and Neurosis include: Altar of Plagues, Weakling, Krallice (kind of different than the rest of these groups), Wolves in the Throne Room (believe the hype), Panopticon, and Lantlos. Some older (or more conventional in some cases) bands that are a great start would include: Darkthrone, Enslaved (work your way chronologically through that discography), 1349, Absu, and Emperor. Yeah, good stuff. By far the most interesting and varying metal genre I know of.
