This song alwas reminds me of this quote: "No one protected me when a loved one cracked my head on a public street one might, not even the college educated Upper West Side white women strolling by pretending not to notice. I don’t like getting hit either, but what are you gonna do when someone grabs your tits? Meekly whisper you won’t stoop to your attackers level? and what level is that exactly? if that’s the way “women” react, how do we classify the elderly Filipinas on a subway train who, when Joe Dickwad grabbed my ass, congratulated me for whacking him as hard as I could, screaming obscenities, and chasing him - to his utter shock and dismay - through the station? They were the few who seemed to acknowledge, respect, and allow for “aggressive” forms of resistance instead of strapping on moral straightjackets for the nineties which we “women” must squeeze into. If that’s a woman, I’m not one. I am an animal who eats, sleeps, fucks, and fights voraciously " Veena Cabreros-Sud

As a guy, I'm surprisingly okay with the fact that Emelie Autumn is coming to kill me. The song is just so catchy.

Far_, you're asking her to censor herself basically, cuz you're offended, she decided to turn a well known cliche (Woman are bitches, cunts and other sexist language (implictly), fighting like a girl is fighting weakly) on it's head. and point out the fact that woman fight hard, mostly against men, who do incredibly criminal things to them (and her). God forbid a woman fight for her right, even if it offends a couple of people, even if it's violence, if it's only through an album/ tour. This is one of the few times being offensive proves any kind of point in this world we live in. She can't censor herself cuz she might offend the few who refuse to understand her circumstances/point of view/the story.

@BritneyFanFeva @harmaalintu I have no problem with women fighting sexism. In fact, I'm a male and consider myself a feminist. However, the problem with this song, as you already stated, is that it goes beyond that and turns into something misandric. The setting is the victorian era, sure, but Emilie already stated that she uses that place in time as a metaphor to today's world, and regardless of that, it really shows what kind of "feminism" she supports.

BritneyFanFeva: I agree with everything you've said. :) Sexism is institutional and misogyny is everywhere, even in this day. I was trying to explain the need to get revenge on the entire male population expressed in the song. Fighting back is absolutely necessary, but the song goes a bit beyond that.

That's why we have the INTERNET to look this stuff up before getting ragey over one person fighting back against a BIG machine which is so much bigger then her, her fans and the few others who speak on similar things.

Not even only in the Victorian times. Emilie has said often we still have such flat out sexist ideas the only thing woman can do is actively fight back otherwise they get ignored, demeaned, objectified, et cetera. Shakesville and other feminist sites are good places to go to understand parts of Emilie points. Minus the Asylum thing, in which case you'd go to her book. Sexism isn't over at all, it's everywhere.

You should all remember that this is set in the Victorian era, when women didn't have much rights to speak of. It's a bunch of women escaping from a mental institute, a world with a certain power balance that regards femininity as weakness. The only means of survival is a shift in power, ie them taking the role of the abuser. They only fight fire with fire because there are no alternatives ("if there is no such thing as justice, the best that we can hope for is revenge"). It's a rebellion, and men can join in too ("even if you're only a boy, you can fight like a girl"), but often those in power have no passion for change in the status quo. I like how it takes a supposed insult, fighting like a girl, and shows how it can be truly powerful.

Nice, not only I noticed the Misery Loves Company in it. "it's so easy to kill - this I learned by watching you" is identical to "you're so easy to read - but the book is boring me" :) [2] I was so confused I suddenly felt like singing Misery Loves Company XD

It's like, being offended by someone being sexist towards you, so to get back at them you're sexist towards them. Which doesn't make sense and isn't effective. Fighting fire with fire makes the whole world burn. I like the feel of the song, some lines I'd like to ignore though.

V that's not what I meant. of course they can. my point is that it is still more like reverse sexism.

women's sexism is like... racism of the black people. I don't know, that doesn't make sense. Love the lyrics, the whole thing actually, though I had to listen to the song for several times to fully appreciate it
