For merch they pay the designer, the producer, the shipper, etc. With CD's, they pay the producer, company, promotion, etc and everyone else.

Oh really? Majority of record sales net profit goes to the record company & pays for the studio, producers, etc. Artists make triple that money off merch sales and concert sales. So check your facts before you call me a moron, Bigot.
