with so much discog to choose from for such a short period of output (2017 to now, barring the early 2000s stuff), it's kinda easy to rack up a lot of listens. Speaking of discography, what albums do you tend to gravitate toward the most? I notice myself often ignoring some of the albums stuck in the middle around 2019-2020. -- Oh, it looks like he just released a new LP last week too. Interesting.

At this point similar artist lists are kind of a fucking dud here on lfm. I find more interesting shit from checking out bandcamp supporters purchase lists.

Both can be shit, and sometimes do things right. Guess it depends on how unique the artist is. More unique and quality, the more inversely proportional the similarity in artists it seems.

Someone who has been scrobbling longer than me and still active; glad to see it. Had a whole speech planned, but it seemed too much of a preachy tangent even for MrTangent. Happy day, and all that.

I see a new profile picture, I like it very much, reminds me of Campbell's Render of the Veils "Daoloth". I wonder if you have ever seen the video: https://youtu.be/gDV-dOvqKzQ ?Is a bit poppy and catchy, but necessary for the depth of the message.

I love how she focuses on the game and the surface of her iris reflects the flickering of the screen. Honestly, we are so massively bombarded with subliminal stimuli that we hardly recognize what is real and what is not. Maybe we have developed a natural resistance to it, you know, if Polybius existed, it was probably a short-term experiment, and they realized that the subconscious is more chaotic and can not be controlled as easily as memory, which we have long-term access to. Nevertheless, subliminal stimuli are very effective in programming the population when the majority has a short attention span. When watching Tik-Tok, people mindlessly scroll and absorb this natural waterfall of fragmented information in the form of short videos that they immediately forget after filing them away in their subconscious. Have you ever heard of the "Blackout Challenge"? Programmed children commit suicide, as in Polybius' myth that strong subliminal stimuli can work particularly well on children in

"absorb this natural waterfall of fragmented information," just like in Polybius' game, one tunnels through this endless oblivion, "the state of being unaware or unconscious of what is happening around one." I love the wordplay in this song. One is in a hypnagogic state of mindlessly operating in a constant environment, bombarded with "simple geometric stimuli," brainwashed and becoming part of the Nirvana stream.

"People mindlessly scroll and absorb this natural waterfall of fragmented information in the form of short videos that they immediately forget after filing them away in their subconscious." Not only that, they skip most videos because they are looking for the most rewarding, interesting, and satisfying one, and when they finally find one, they play it over and over again, getting hooked, and even though their attention span is short, the concentration is there. Just like the NiN Polybius video, I could play it repeatedly, at least ten times in a row, but at least I'm well aware of what Reznor is up to, he just wants me to vote for Biden lol. But perhaps that's what a masterpiece of manipulation looks like, you tell people the truth.

The key thing about the video is none of what I said before. Is not so clear to realise at first glance. One may think that the girl is gradually brainwashed by the game, but that's only half the truth. The main point is that the girl herself is evil, "too many people" because video games are escapism, "back against the wall" because it means isolation from the daily life of society, "hands full" because she is steering, hand occupied with the gamepad, power tripping, indifference, her look is sinister, she is evil, could be a Trump or Biden, whoever is in power current ly.

how many people listen to hip hop you think do so performatively? i would say i don't like the genre much at all. although, strangely enough, i do like IDM w/ breaks (some forms of noisy, chaotic DnB too), and rapping seems like the best fit, vocally. though it seems like the pairing is not a particularly popular one. =\

very cool stuff at merzo. reminds me of Keith Thompson in technique, and seems strangely familiar like i saw this or something similar going back a ways. unfortunately i haven't drawn anything, or done much pixel art in ages, a lot more time consuming than using old stock photos of mine. some talented technical / surrealist polish artists like Andrzey Masianis, Beksinski of course, and Bielak I particularly like. Not that there aren't others I would admire too. Anyway, I think I'm gonna call this one done: https://imgur.com/a/XHtfP6A

hard to say. gotta remember to work on my brighter monitor. and not use half layers with the rectangle select tool when building cloud layers. they end up having hard, straight edges... going in to try and correct it with transparency gradient is a spotty process. easier to avoid the problem from the get go. even if i don't draw anymore, i should maybe try pixel drawing. not 100% sure. i got this idea for Beksinski like cross looming skyward, with chains/lashes/tentacles reaching for one of those Peruvian mummies that look like the scream face. The concept being the sadism behind, and morbidity of, the idea that a "god" would want to crucify its own son as some sort of currency for salvation, paid in slow, agonizing death. no idea how i'd do that with just photographs and digital manipulation though. sadge

I just been listening to a lot of pre-2000s ebm, and various '80s synth and wave stuff. I feel like any answer wouldn't inform on a proper state of mind, or true preference. But plenty bands yeah. The most recent stuff I was listening to was Mithras 'On Strange Loops' and Sarpanitum catalogue.

Nope. I'd rather just listen to Antediluvian. I can't exactly explain it, but something about later DsO (similarly Portal and Mitochondrion) that doesn't sit right with me. I guess it's the non-stop dissonance which feels laborious and grating. Dissonance, imo, should be a matter of accentuation, or crescendo, or the aftermath of an aural landscape in ruins. It puts the rest of music into perspective and makes those moments more powerful, meaningful. If it's your sole gimmick and you want to pound people over the head with relentless sonic misery, or feel compelled to include at least 8 minutes of guitar feedback on every record, cool. Let the sadists have at it, along with their Merzbows. LOL. All kidding aside, I don't really listen to ANY DsO these days. There are some Aspa era tracks that are serviceable, or even good, from what I can remember though.

Listen man, if I found out my favorite artists were Nazis, fuck I'd probably still listen to them too. I mean, I still listen to Kanye despite everything. But when your top 50 is a bunch of literal neo-nazis, you kinda lose the room to criticize whether what other people listen to is "deep", lmao.

No it doesn't mean that. It was more me responding in kind to you suggesting people listen to folk Rome because it's "obscure", out of some hipster motivation. As opposed to doing so because ppl think it's good music, with somewhat thought provoking philosophical or historical lyrics. The msg was meant for that other dude, not you. Just saying.

As for the pictures, those are upvoted by the users, or at least were before the website was revamped. If I had to guess it's because the website is probably pretty big in Europe, which is why folk Rome dominates the last.fm scrobbles / user page. I'll let you in on a little secret you might find amusing though. Sometime around 2010-2012 people were shit talking that r'n'b dude, calling him the n-word on his picture comments. I actually upvoted it, and then created a bunch of sock accounts to upvote it just to get it as the top picture on the artist page to piss them off.

"Imagine listening to an artist because you want something to soothe your demons, and sometimes desire a just a little more from your music (artists) than face tattoos, giggling asses, glorified drug trade violence & materialism," I'm tired of these fucking beckies going outside and listening to BL*CK people music. They don't know how to SOOTHE THEIR DEMONS like I do. If I don't have neo-folk, there's no telling what my DEMONS will do. I am a NON CONFORMIST.

Yeah, if not for that folk music my demons might force me to chase people down on their userpages and make a fool out of myself. Perhaps I'd get so worked up I'd start lacking proper reasoning skills and get triggered by artist pages that weren't representing my interests. And then I'd go borderline retard and project the hangups I have about music demographics onto others. Hangups which actually revealed more about my own lack of depth, or ability to appreciate music on its own merits. Thank goodness I'm not some basic ass Becky who's gotta check what crowd her music identifies her w/ before she can allow herself to like it. Thank you "fake" Rome! I can't tell you the depths of stupidity you've saved me from.

I'm saying your application of dog whistles here doesn't make sense, and I just listed multiple reasons why. In fact, I'm saying there's a good reason to be skeptical of anyone who uses that term to call things out beyond what's stated at face value. It might just be revealing of that person's own internal biases.

IDEK why you brought any of those things up to begin with. Not a single one of them has to do with Rome. (Except, I guess, maybe materialism?)

You're not very quick on the uptake, are you Becky? What you don't seem to be able to clue in on is that no one you're chasing down and screaming at really gives a shit what music you listen to. Only that you're being an ornery and self-entitled little twat while you do it. I guess that's the whole problem though huh, not enough people on the Rome artist webpage to give you or your music validation? =( And then you go batshit ballistic, spamming last.fm pages when people call you out on it. Probably the most ironic use of the term snowflake I've seen in the last few months.
