Happy New Year my dear! How are you in these 2011's first days? I wish you happiness, success and an excellent health for you and your family! What are your plans for the coming weeks? As for me I'm back in Dijon, I've started my classes again since yesterday. My prom has been divided into groups of work and we will have to make a study about the bank of tomorrow by highlighting ideas to develop in terms of design, welcoming and productivity. It will be very interesting, especially since the best works will be awarded by prizes. Anyway, lots of work for the coming weeks... I've seen you'll go to great gigs in Monterrey, you will enjoy them a lot :) Have a nice day!

Good evening! How's your day in Valle de Bravo? Your programme of yesterday was totally awesome, I'm very glad you spent such an intense and emotional day by meeting some of your relatives again. How long are you staying there in vacation? Enjoy as much as possible by spending nice moments with your family and doing everything Valle de Bravo can offer such as hiking, jet skying and so on! As for me, I said goodbye to my family earlier that day and arrived in Bordeaux at a friend's to study in the town library and celebrate New Year with him and some other friends. I'm kind of productive now 'cause I've been studying political subjects, looking for internships, making my CV and starting reading Sophie's World which is an incredibly profound book. Yesterday I watched Exit Through The Gift Shop, a documentary made by the British street artist Banksy that I highly recommend to you because it perfectly illustrates the essence of street art as a symbolic part of the counter-culture.

Your book suggestion is a great idea, I've always been intrigued by Buddhism and would like to better understand the essence of this religion. So before all I will read resources about an historical and fundamental view of the religion, then we could start reading this book. Time for me to sleep, I wish you a pleasant evening with your beloved family. As usual I'm finishing my message with music : couldn't stop listening to that song from a band you might already know. Anyway it is very appropriate for my coming night and your serene evening in Valle de Bravo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9me8x4duHk

t's the kind of cosy atmosphere which is greatly adequate to have passionate discussions and flights of lyricism around a drink or two. Besides, what's your favorite drink when you're chatting with friends in bars like this one? Mine is called Tariquet, it's a white wine produced in South West of France, very sweet and a bit sparkling. I was able to find it in one supermarket in Dijon, it's usually the drink I bring for parties as well as other white wines. Basically I didn't often go to this bar but will take the opportunity of the new year coming to go there some time, for having a breakfast or simply a drink with friends. I try to vary the pleasures between quiet atmosphere and clubs even though I have a large preference to quiet atmospheres where you can have interesting and passionate talks along with music I've playlisted and a bit of food and drink. What about you?

Good evening! How are you today? I guess you might be very overwhelmed to see your relatives during your stay in Valle de Bravo! You've probably just left home so I wish you a great trip (8 hours long, right? Then listen to our music recommendations so the time will go by faster thanks to all that great melodies we usually listened these weeks). Unless you've already arrived? We're in the exact same situation regarding the fact we won't celebrate New Year with our best friend. Mine is off to Miami 'till April, will be a great moment when I see him back in France! So considering you were most of the time away from your family for your studies, did you live alone or share an apartment with other people? You're right, there have been huge parties in my apartment (will always remember the housewarming party when around 80 people from school came to my apartment to celebrate, such a joyful mess). The bar you're used to going and the description you made totally convinced me!

Considering Reprise is part of your favorite movies, I would recommend you to start with Norway of Life (which is weirdly the French title, the international one being The Bothersome Man). I've just listened carefully to the performance of the Bellas Artes and the highness developed along the play. In any case you might have been extremely impressed to see your grandfather playing violin in huge and prestigious concert rooms! Such a tremendous pride for you and your family! As for you I'm sure you were very talented and you honored beautifully the waltz of Bach :) Regarding pets, I don't have one but would like to have a labrador which is a very quiet, faithful and serene dog. It perfectly fits with my personality I guess. 1:30 over here, time to sleep so I wish you now a wonderful evening, a nice walk with Ela and a good preparation for your trip tomorrow! Also I anticipate by wishing you a good night accompanied by this voluptuous song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRqW5pVqAMQ

I've bought the book a few of months ago and borrow it to my father who's been going along pages with a great enthusiasm! Anyway the point is we didn't find a common book yet... Your turn to suggest me one :) Yes we share a big apartment, very practical because it is close to our school and it enables us to often invite friends. What about you by the way? Do you live in an apartment by yourself for your studies or your university is close to your family's home? Nice to know you liked Coffee & Cigarettes! Speaking of philosophical discussions hold in a cosy atmosphere, do you any particular places in Mexico such as bars where you like meeting friends and talk with them for hours? I've found one in Dijon, it's a bar/restaurant with a particular emphasis on literature since the decoration is exclusively composed of hundreds of books everywhere on the walls. Such a perfect place to have breakfast while reading our common book ;)

My favorite song by Gainsbarre, one of the classiest, jazziest and most serene songs I've ever listened, with lyrics from a poem of Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVLhoDfu54M A great artist I saw in concert a month ago, very melodious and generous music : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbYAMlNvQSI I hope you'll like these tunes as much as I loved yours! Every songs you recommended me covers a singular universe, as if we were travelling along a large diversity of melodies, tones, rhythms, messages... As a result i liked every song with a particular crush on Café Tacuba and the video clip of Frijolero. Anyway I let you listen the songs I've suggested to you while I'm going to start writing a last message before your departure to Valle de Bravo :)

I want to let you these links, French music... while I'm writing you ;) Jacques Dutronc, probably my favorite French artist so far. He's more known as the 60's Dandy by excellence, very offhand and gentleman through his gesture and timeless lyrics about the society, love and human relations. As you might have seen in my top artists, I'm a great admirer of this artist, his music and personality. Here is one of my favorite songs : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uNI35lU8dQ and another one featuring his wife Françoise Hardy, definitely one of the most symbolic and inspiring French couples of artists (as well as Gainsbourg/Birkin) : http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2rv2t_francoise-hardy-jacques-dutronc-les_music A classic tune by Miss Hardy, full of carelessness : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma5BOoSpB4E

As for me I don't play any instrument but would love playing Jazz drum (music also holds a very special place in my family considering my dad is a Jazz amateur and plays saxophone). And yes I like classical music and especially the nocturnes by Chopin and some operas. And that soundtrack of Black Swan, already 150 listens in less than a day, so addictive and leaving me in a quiet and light atmosphere. I'll be off to Bordeaux on Tuesday, will visit some friends and study sociological books at the library. I've been waiting for the green light of my friend to go to Orléans but he's in London for the moment and is unable to give me precisions towards it, so it leaves me with two possibilities, either going to Orléans or partying in Bordeaux which would be nice as well. What kind of dog do you have? That will be on that nice words that I'm leaving you and wish you a great afternoon! All in French music of course ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91g9xqh4qU0

...Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch (or how to philosophy along atypical dialogues while drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes) and Norway of Life by Jens Lien (a reflexion around the essential role of feelings and the interest of consumption in our life). If you allow me to give you a bonus one, I would say Match Point which is part of the movies I've watched the most. I've got this impression music hold a very special place in your family (since your father likes to take care of the Christmas playlist and your Grandfather played in the Orchestra of Bellas Artes (which instrument by the way? was there any records which were released of that Orchestra? will be very interested in listening to it if possible). Nice that you used to play violin! Which composition did you prefer playing?

Nonetheless I would have loved seeing Woody Allen presenting the Big Apple in New-York, I Love You. I think he's the one who could give the most beautiful tribute to NY, the proof with masterpieces such as Manhattan. I'm very surprised I didn't know Reprise, especially since I'm fond of Scandinavian movies. Will look for it later though. I've heard all the good for Biutiful, would love to watch it. 21 Gramos is part of those movies that are an intense and memorable experience. Besides Benicio del Toro and Charlotte Gainsbourg deliver a perfect composition in it! Haha I don't know why I've asked you to give me five movies, it's actually difficult to cite just five. Ok let's have a try : Kikujiro's Summer by Takeshi Kitano (a humanistic movie on human relations, very poetical and subtle), Wild Strawberries by Ingmar Bergman (a timeless classic so far), Black Cat/White Cat by Emir Kusturica (a delightful and jubilatory immersion into Serbian folklore)...

I'm not reading a particular one at the moment but would be very interested in reading Sophie's World which seems to be very profound. Maybe we could start with this one? Or if you have another idea, a book that you would absolutely like to read, I'd be glad to hear from it :) Since the time I wrote to you earlier that day, two other friends of mine contacted me to know more about my trip. So you were totally right! Basically I've got four roommates, three girls from my school and a Spanish guy who's just arrived and will be there for four months. My German friend is also at the school, he's part of my foreign friends I've met in the international programme I'm registered to. Your spontaneous Top 5 is great, as if we were making a world tour through movies (from France and Norway to the U.S, Japan and back to Mexico). I agree with you, this concept of showing a city through its different aspects thanks to a lot of different artistic sensibilities is a great one!

Haha so here's an idea for your next party : inviting your friends, preparing the ingredients for the raclette and making a playlist with Air and Sébastien Tellier in it. Be sure your home will be the place to be afterwards! Do Mexican supermarkets offer ranges of French products? It is the case over here regarding Mexican products but i have to tell you would be laughing if you saw the TV ads full of clichés promoting Mexican food. Basically I've just found one : http://www.ina.fr/pub/alimentation-boisson/video/PUB1027235004/old-el-paso-scanner-version-20-secondes.fr.html If you have any funny TV ads about French products, I would be very curious to watch some of them and see how French people and culture are seen in Mexico :D Was looking for infos about Yiyun Li's book but cannot find any, is there another title for that book? It would be a great idea to share and confront our mind towards a common book!

It's funny how we follow the evolution of the day by firstly saying good morning, then good afternoon and good evening. So good afternoon now! Hope you spend a great day while you're waiting for your Uncle and eventually going to Valle de Bravo. As for me my day was nice, started reading my lectures and watched Black Swan for the second time with my mom who were unexpectedly very touched by that movie. The point is I couldn't watch any other movie and listen to other music than the soundtrack in the two coming weeks. Just have that feeling this movie raised a summum of beauty so I'll need a little bit of time to be willing to watch other movies. Anyway I already know which one I'll watch then, it's for sure Departures that I wanted to watch when it was played in theaters a year and a half ago. The scenario reminds me a bit that excellent TV show called Six Feet Under highlighting this idea of the death being part of life through a complex net of human relations.

Do you like classical music? Here is a foretaste of Black Swan through this melodious magnificence being part of Tchaikovsky's compositions revisited by Clint Mansell : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZei2IUQojw This afternoon I will reading some courses about the European Construction, then i will call my best friend who's been living in Miami 'till April. What about you? Packing your stuffs to go to Valle de Bravo? And thanks for this instrumental by Austin TV, you and Mexican music have a lot to teach me :) Do you like the French band called Air? If you like them, I recommend you to have a listen to this song, it was played by one of the guys from Air who created his side project. Basically even French people don't know his side project and that despite his huge notoriety as being part of Air : http://soundcloud.com/alex1984/darkel-tv-destroy I'd better leave you now, too much reading for you (was basically very inspired ;) Have a wonderful day!

So I'll probably go there with my Spanish roommate and a German friend. Ideally I'd like to spend two or three days in Copenhagen, then travelling around in some natural places and a little tour to Sweden. Talking about travelling, you're leaving to Valle de Bravo today right? By advance I wish you a nice travel there! So you have movie festivals coming in January into theaters! I'm very glad you could then have the opportunity to watch The Dreamers, I also like it in the way it's a great tribute to the 60's "Nouvelle Vague". If you had to cite me spontaneously five movies you liked, which ones would you choose? January will be a great month for going to the cinema, especially for Sofia Coppola's new movie! And really looking forward to watching 127 Hours by Danny Boyle.

Above all I like novels emphasizing the human relations narrated in constantly changing societies. For instance I love reading books written by Haruki Murakami and Jonathan Coe, both authors having an accurate and critical view of their country, lifestyles, politics and social concerns. A book that perfectly reflects the universal literature is definitely Kafka on the Shore by Murakami who depicts a tale at the crossroads between poetry, philosophy, drama and even a societal analysis in the current Japan deeply influenced by traditions. If you want, when we have time we could decide on a common book we could read and discuss about it afterwards? It would be like a link and a way to be both concerned by an artwork and to raise our sensibility towards it, what do you think of that idea? About my trip, ten minutes after publishing this plan on facebook, several friends sent a message to me and offered me to join for this travel.

Good morning! Despite I've just finished to eat, I'm still hungry due to your appetizing description of these Mexican specialties. Considering I'm fond of potatoes and shrimps, I think I could have a crush on palanquetas as well as you haha. Will check the recipe and try to prepare it for myself and my roommates. Talking about potatoes, have you ever eaten raclette? It's my best dish of all time so far! It's composed of potatoes wrapped in melt cheese and often accompanied with charcuterie. Basically it's more a state of spirit than an actual dish if we can say so because it's the perfect food that you share in a friendly atmosphere with your relatives or friends. Cold winter, good music, nice people to chat with and a chimney fire : the perfect ingredients for a successful evening haha. Regarding literature, I'm as curious as you in the way I try to enlarge my prospects with an eclectic literature coming from philosophy, history, novels, business.

Very glad to know Sébastien Tellier is one your favs! Do you know General Elektriks? He's a French DJ taking more or less part of the French Touch movement. Have a listen to this song which is pretty groovy : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgY0CKaJaG8 If we continue with the topic about foreign music I will have to learn some Spanish and it also implies you will have to learn some French too :)

Sounds good to me to read a lot, I'm usually a huge reader! Besides I was very captivated by your summary, you've spent an overwhelming Christmas! Was the food based on Mexican specialties? I'd be curious to know what kind of dessert you adore and the one you ate yesterday! Wow you've been very spoiled by Santa Claus haha. Any ideas of the CD's you will choose? That book sounds very interesting, speaking of French culture have you ever read Simone de Beauvoir's work? If you're interested in that subject she's definitely one of the historical references in terms of women rights' recognition. Anyway, you'll have to give me some feedbacks of your reading, i'm the first to think that "behind every successful man is a surprised woman" so i guess it's part of the subject of your book. Haha what sounds better than a mummy exhibition after Christmas celebration? It's pretty atypical afterwards but it might have been very interesting though (reminds me some great exhibitions in Louvre).

Good evening dear (or should i say good afternoon!). I guess you're in the middle of making the salad, is everything well? Christmas is always funny in the way everyone is getting involved by contributing with their skills, enthusiasm and happiness. As for me my specialty is eating very enthusiastically everything prepared by my mom haha. Occasionally I will put classy music from Jazz to Folk. I'm thinking about my xMas gift and have to take care of the flight ticket considering I'm planning to go to Greece for a week! What did you order for your gift list? Oh i'm totally into that idea to discover artists singing in Spanish! In exchange i will recommend you some typical French artists singing in French (such as Serge Gainsbourg and other legends). Here's a song I particularly like, very mellow with sweet lyrics : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGKzUMN1cGI I think it's time to wish you a wonderful time with your relatives, enjoy eating, drinking, laughing 'till the end of the night :)

Besides I wanted to ask you for Mexican artists, especially since I've got a little knowledge of Mexican culture (know a few movie directors) so i'd like to improve my knowledge so far. If you want I could do the same and recommend you some of my favorite French artists in every fields of arts. It will be one of our 2011 subject of discussion if you'd like to. Considering you'll wake up soon, here is a Dream-Pop song performed by a French artist, sounds like the best of Hope Sandoval and Mazzy Star, never tried it as wake-up song but I think it's quite smooth and relaxing to leave you serene : http://soundcloud.com/crazyone-2/between-us-aswefall

Indeed, it's difficult for an artist to remain loyal to its primary creativity especially when you release an excellent first album and you have then pressure from record labels ans the growing interest of the audience. that's totally the reason why we both prefer listening to artists who go off the beaten tracks and offer creations centered on pure feelings and emotions. Haha I perfectly feel you're in a relaxed mood now after listening to this aerial song. I think it's the same for me right now, I'm totally in a smooth and relaxed mood, so this song is just perfect, truly beautiful and addictive : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvTZwhOHYVA I don't know how to describe it but there's something really unique with this song, something like joyfulness wrapped in a delicate and melancholic atmosphere. Hope it will fit with your personal mood when you're going to hear it :)

... Basically it's a music website which compiles every month indie tunes newly released and offers them in free download. It's interesting to see how they put the emphasis on Chillwave, Dream Pop and Garage Rock (along with classical Pop, Rock, Folk). http://www.blalocksirp.com/ Just listened to this song by d'Eon, the least we can say is that it's pretty avant-gardiste. I've seen earlier that day that Glasser and La Sera will come to my town for a concert, you might already know this song which is an effective Garage-Pop song : http://soundcloud.com/hardlyartrecords/la-sera-never-come-around I think this artist will be one of the major ones in the coming years, especially since she's the drummer for Vivian Girls (who will release their third album in spring) and the leader of the side project All Saints Day. Do you like this growing music genre symbolized by Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls, Frankie Rose and others?

This Lake Avándaro is simply beautiful and the place seems to be rich in history. It gives me lust to take my backpack and go for travelling right now haha. As for me I'm talking with my friend to organize our New year in Orléans which is as you said a very famous historical city considering it was the seat of several kings in the Middle-Age but also the town of Joan of Arc. Basically I've never visited this town before so it will be the perfect opportunity to visit monuments and possibly castles (in parallel of partying of course ;) I totally agree with you, our taste is very similar and we perfectly complement our repertoire following our mood but also our respective secret research ;) One of mine turns out to be the Blalock's Indie Rock Playlist (where i've found out Botany for example)...

Wintertime is a very particular season that i also like, especially thanks to the wrapping atmosphere and all those feelings i couldn't describe well. It's a perfect season to listen to oniric, dreamy and melancholic songs such as the one by Beach House. Nice programme you have here! I've seen some pics of Valle de Bravo, such a beautiful picturesque place! As for me I'll spend Christmas with my family, then I'll celebrate New Year with a good friend of mine in Orleans. What an honor that you let me share your secret research with me (even though I already knew Hype Machine haha). The point is despite we have similar methods of research (Last FM, Pitchfork, Hype Machine, Gorilla vs. Bear...), we are very complementary in the music we find. Regarding Pitchfork's ranking, I agree with you, bands such as Wavves, Best Coast and Tame Impala should have been better ranked as well as Twin Sister, Atlas Sound and Owen Pallett who are not in the list.

As for me I'm home indeed, in a town called Biscarrosse (kind of seaside resort right close to the Atlantic Ocean). I couldn't enjoy the sea considering it's 2° up here but it's nice anyway to get a rest after my exams. As usual I'm amazed by this new recommendation. I wish you a great stay there, enjoy taking a rest lying quietly on the beach. Anyway you might have spent a great moment in Paris, especially since the 15th arrondissement where you were is a nice quarter. As for me I was in the 11th, in a young, dynamic and highly cultural quarter. There were bars all around my flat but also great concert rooms where I went to see incredible gigs such as Grizzly Bear, Beach House, Deerhunter, Girls, Owen Pallett, Joanna Newsom, Flying Lotus and so on. I'll be very glad that you make me discover Mexico, besides I'm pretty sure I'll go there some time (considering I love travelling and discovering other cultures like you). Haha indeed our messages are getting bigger every time. Can you speak italian? It's actually my third foreign language and i keep on studying it at my school. Normally I will have to go study abroad from the end of August. Hope I will be accepted, which is pretty hard because there's a lot of requirements (like having a certain score to the TOEFL and GMAT). The advantage of my school is that there are more than a hundred partnerships abroad, whom Mexico and especially the Technological Institute of Monterrey and the University of Yucatan. Which country would like to make your internship in? If you plan to make it in France, let me know i will help you as far as possible. Alright for the autograph, the great thing with the concert room I'm used to going is that it's very small, so you can talk with the artists at the end of their performance. No need to tell you I like that song by Dent May. I will check the album for sure. Besides I've just listened to Soft Powers' Bad Pop, totally overwhelmed by every songs and this mix of feelings from joyfulness to melancholy wrapped in a retro and warm instrumental. Mary never sings our songs will be for sure part of my classics for the coming months. Revelation of 2010 in terms of disco-revival : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi01RYBJkig

In five shouts you let me discover more awesome stuffs than I would have done in one month! Soft Powers is like you said pretty tropical and funky, i will listen to their album asap. And that newest song by Toro y Moi announces a great album in prospect! Here's a highly addictive and immersive song taking samples from a 70's classic : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJtv0V1tIU

Yes let's change the mood! Toro y Moi is one of my favs this year, his album is simply incredible and a real reference in terms of Chillwave music. That gig you went might have been great, I've watched some live videos, he seems to be very close to his public and set up a clear complicity with them in a carefree atmosphere. Hope I could see him soon. My turn with this groovy retroish song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IssdPmsScos

I agree with you, it's pretty amazing how we share similar music and how fun are these know/not know recommendations. Much more amazing is the fact we are listening the same music at the same time and with thousands miles of distance! What about that one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgSE3lAdYIE

Haha another artist I don't know! I will check it out very soon but I'm already sure I will like it considering we have the same taste in music. What about this one? He released a 7" with Best Coast last year, another brilliant dreamy sound I can't stop listening : http://soundcloud.com/lastationradar/jeans-wilder-nice-trash-sparkler
