Hey dude, I'm moving to Atlanta in the next month or so. We should go eat/get a beer if you're around for the summer

nice! hopefully ill get to see them when im in austin next week. yeah, i heard a bit of julia holter's album on npr when it was still streaming, i liked what i heard. i just discovered this similar new band, Highasakite. the singer sounds a lot like that of camera obscura, like a chiller norwegian version of the band

Yeah man, just played "Genesis" on my WRVU show yesterday. Seems like a lot of great electronic music with ladies on the vocals has been coming out lately. Poliça's new album has become a recent fave of mine, definitely recommend it. And tomorrow, the new album by School of Seven Bells comes out. I've heard a bit of it already, good stuff!

They're all in, thank god! I might have to have a serious talk with you in couple months about fun things, like: debt, the profession, PI/gov't v. private practice, the economy, etc. How'd grades come out? I think Maggie said a while back you were interested in doing criminal defense, is that right?

Damn, that's discouraging. I'm beginning my ls app cycle in these next couple of weeks. I'm only taking six hours my final semester (and working) so that I'll be a bit fresher for the "life sucking bitch."

Joey's band is playing with Dream Syndicate's singer on May 15. You should come out if you're going to be in Georgia. This is Joey's latest band in case you hadn't heard them: http://www.myspace.com/thebiters

hahaha I see all those bands as power pop related. I found Pavement through GBV (I see them as power pop influenced), I still prefer GBV ten times over. I found Yo La Tengo because they cover Big Star's 'Take Care.' Apples in Stereo and New Pornographers were on that big power pop comp I found a while ago. So yeah, I guess me getting into some indie rock is a natural outgrowth of a power pop obsession.

This blog has some rare Wilco stuff, including covers of Elvis Costello, the Stooges, and Big Star (under "Someone Else's Song" in the comp section). http://www.owlandbear.com/wilco-archive/

Just checked out one of their songs... It's pretty good, kind of like a less weird, poppier Black Lips. I'm seeing Black Lips at the 40 Watt Saturday. They're definitely a band you need to see live if you haven't yet.

Thanks, I'll look into them. I do like the Soft Boys. I heard Robyn Hitchcock a while ago on this 250 song power pop that I got off of thepiratebay.org. I haven't gotten real into them, but I've definitely been digging up more of the 80s guitar pop bands like the Soft Boys and Dream Syndicate.

I don't have Flies on Sherbet, but I have some other solo stuff of his that I'm not too impressed by. I know that it's bad to say, but I think Chris Bell was a better solo artist. Chilton's contributions in Big Star were obviously greater than Bell's, and I would say that even if only #1 Record were considered that Chilton still outweighs Bell.

I saw Wilco at the Fox last night. They played a cover of Thank You Friends for the encore after a three hour set. It was amazing.

But, yeah I got ridiculed at a party one time for saying I liked power pop, because they associated it with that crap.

Dude, look at the powerpop genre tag page. You would think that Fountains of Wayne would be the worst of it, but the term is being applied to pop-punk-emo crap: http://www.last.fm/tag/powerpop The two word tag "power pop" is used more accurately for some reason: http://www.last.fm/tag/power%20pop

Yeah, I have a complicated relationship with REM because my parents always used to play them and I resented them just because they liked them. I suppose I really liked them all the while and wouldn't own up to it, because I managed to get into all the bands that influenced them (ie Patti Smith, the Byrds, Big Star). REM and Drive By Truckers are the only Athens bands I get into. My parents had little impact on my musical tastes as a whole. I found the Stones, Bowie, and the rest of them on my own.

It's good to see Chris Bell in the charts. That's one of those hard to find albums that I was forced to buy. That and "The Band" by "The Band," because it's an impossible search on torrent sites.
