join the dots...probably the best compilation...like, ever. in my opinion, of course :P a hefty amount of The Cure's best work resides on JTD.

they do?! well, now i don't feel so embarrassed about our hokey music "scene"...:) and yes, you really should see the history boys (film)! it's really very good. the music choice is fabulous, it's got the smiths (this charming man, obviously) the cure (a forest), and echo and the bunnymen (never stop) among others.

wow. :) well, at least you HAVE a music scene. we have a couple of local high school bands. one is abysmal, they try to combine rage against the machine with guns n' roses with muse. NOT a good result, i tell you! but, the other one is heavily influenced by jimi hendrix and bob marley, which their music is great (they even have a song called "the only one" which came out after The Cure's song, but still made me laugh quite a bit) yeah, at first i didn't really like This Charming much at ALL but then i saw The History Boys and heard that version. I was instantly like, HOLY CRAP. :)

yes true, we do have a lot of link ups, but at the same time im sure there are more bands we would totally disagree about than bands we do agree on.

yes, you definitely need to check out The Cure In Orange. It is most likely one of the most definitive colleciton live performances they've put out, if not THE most definitive. Magnificent energy, and Tim Pope captures the band's attitude and atmosphere like no other. since the smiths are no longer a living entity, i suppose a cover band so good would be an honor of sorts. i'm far off from anywhere that would have that sort of thing :'( so conisder yourself lucky. have you heard the extended new york version of this charming man? i think that's my favorite version of the song. wow, really? i knew both songs were about a suicide, but i never knew it was the SAME suicide. wow

naive, naw...you just didn't know, is all. :) i buy whatever i can find, really. it's difficult to find ANY good music let alone specific albums where i live. i have to drive, like, 45 miles to the nearest larger city to even begin to look. And now, I've cleaned their stores of all the Cure albums I didn't own, and now they have copies of what I own. Frustrating. But there's always eBay. speaking of, I just got the VHS of The Cure In Orange today! Have you seen it, or do you own it? If not, there are some amazing videos of the songs on YouTube. And I buy them on CD, but I'm considering buying a few on vinyl. Like, my absolute favorites, or even some singles I'm fond of...just for sentimental value. Yeah, Cure albums have lyrics, from about the top and onwards, i think...are The Smiths Indeed good? Well, I'd imagine so if you're making the effort to see them. :) sounds fantastic! and, yes, i think they're related.

i see. i happen to be rather fond of wms, bloodflowers, AND the cure, actually. there are some hidden gems in those albums. well, not so much with bloodflowers. there are all but 3 songs, i think that are great, in my opinion. but still not as good as their older stuff, i assure you. as for wms, there's such a variety, it reminds me of THOTD a bit. and the cure is questionable...i really really love lost and before three. yeah, i love all the albums i don't own yet. i've downloaded them, but that's not really the same as owning the actual album, you know? i absolutely adore faith. as for mixed up, i LOVE all the remixes the cure does. there's a good bunch of them on Join The Dots. :) with The Only One, the similarity between those two songs was what i immediately noticed. it was kind of cool. I happen to have a hodgepodge mix of original versions and the newer deluxe remasters. i have the deluxe (one and two disc editions) of KMKMKM and THOTD. i'm looking for more, though.

by "new stuff" do you mean from wish on, like wild mood swings, bloodflowers, and the cure, on? the only one's catchy, but it sounds like a weird recycled version of "high" and "inbetween days" like, if those two songs had a baby..."the only one" is that union's strange love child. ;) and, yes, it's rather loud, not as "crisp" as you say as much of their older songs. but there are some good songs on 4:13, along with questionable ones. the b-sides are marvelous, though, as is the usual case with The Cure. have you heard any of them? and i'm glad you're still trying. they'll most likely grow on you. and i still need three imaginary boys (i have boys don't cry, which is mostly the same stuff), faith, mixed up (if that counts), and the cure. and do "concert" and "entreat" count? 'cause i'd need those, too. haha

japanese whispers is worth it if you don't have join the dots or staring at the sea. because 1/2 the songs are on either one of those compilations. i got it because i'm making it my goal to have a complete cure discography (i'm almost there!). oh, yes, definitely. i've talked with some folks on the internet who've been fans since they were, like, 11 and they're in their late 40s. like, hardcore fans, too. and i'm most definitely not bored with any of their music. :) as for their new stuff...yes, some. it's beautiful, yes, but lacks a lot of the depth and passion of their older stuff. still the cure, but like...a diet cure. i'm eagerly awaiting their companion "dark album" to go with 4:13 Dream. what do you think of their new stuff?

i coudn't have said it better! THOTD is sheer brilliance, though and through. an incredibly well-rounded album. and i can't really pick a favorite, myself...i find it very difficult, as i go in phases. like, last week i was all about pornography (ha) and then after that, i switched to the top, then wish. and today i jammed to japanese whispers twice. the cure have such a massive range of styles and moods and that's why i love them. and as for high...i can't get enough of it! it's the song that got me into the cure, after all, as you can see by my username. ;)
