I was 19 when this album came out and it was genuinely my emotional awakening to music. I haven't looked back since but this is a vastly underestimated album. Just because it's very soothing and relaxing and summery and chill doesn't mean it's not high art. It's a masterful album. And unbelievably moving. But it's just more subtle than others in the Wilco catalogue.

I don't understand why some people below are saying this album is not good. Hmm oh well, to each their own.

Sky Blue Sky is such a beautiful record, though I wouldn't say it's their best or their most arty, but it's sincere and simply touching. Some of these songs will always be with me. Plus, does anyone think that this record is somehow inspired by Hunky Dory/Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie?

The music of my life in the summer of 2007. :) I think when all is said and done this will go down as one of their best, it's simply beautiful.

Hmm, I missed all the excitement. For what it's worth I absolutely second your opinion hotterthanjuly. I think alot of people miss the point with Sky Blue Sky, and that's sad because they miss out on such a warm, melodic, COHESIVE album. Wilco's back-catalogue is great, they really have something for every mood. Sky Blue Sky is just another gem to enjoy. Ever driven around on a warm summers day playing this album through in its entirety? It comes highly recommended.

The b-sides off this album (Let's Not Get Carried Away, One True Vine, The Thanks I Get, Glad It's Over) are actually better than some of the songs they kept (Shake It Off, Walken, What Light).

This album deserves a lot of praise, but I would rank it as my least favorite Wilco album so far. But again, songs like "Impossible Germany," "Side With the Seeds," "You Are My Face" all stack up as some of their best songs. Can't wait to hear what this line-up will sound like doing more studio oriented songs on the upcoming record!

god, just listen to those lyrics on Impossible Germany. Jeff Tweedy has opened up my mind so much within four lines: "This is what love is for-- / to be out of place. / Gorgeous and alone, / face to face."

I listened to "either way" a lot on my vacation to Hawaii. Now that song reminds me of hawaii and is my favorite song on the album. :D

It's a real grower, moreso than their other albums. One of my favourites of last year.

Sadly, the only Wilco album I've heard so far, and yet one of the greatest albums I've ever heard.

As echo725 says, the first three tracks are arguably the best beginning for a modern alternative album in existence. The rest of the album continues with the feeling of the beginning, and certainly Wilco does not warrant some of the criticism it has received for this album. It is as strong as any other by the band.
