while i do like Heaven is Whenever, the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition are making me think they should've had another go at deciding on the tracklist for the album.

Hmm.....I think this one's gonna have to grow on me. I don't like Craig vocals here.

I'm rooting for these guys, but to me, they peaked with "Hoodrat" through the epic "Boys and Girls in America." I miss Franz's keys.

As far as I'm concerned, Separation Sunday will likely always remain their best work, followed closely by Boys and Girls in America.

Huge disappointment. Listened to it once, and no real desire to hear it again. Will give it a couple more spins, but I doubt that'll change anything.

So does this make me the only Hold Steady fan in existence who would rate Almost Killed Me at the bottom of the pile? Not to say its a bad record, because its absolutely amazing, in fact even using it in the same sentence as derogatory qualifiers is almost a crime... I just think other albums shade it for whatever reason.

Boys & Girls and Almost Killed Me are my favorites, but I'm positive that this album is my #3.

I thought I'd *really* miss Franz to the point where no record would really ever hit the spot again, but the songwriting is as brilliant as ever and like Craig said, the lack of prominent keys gives the album a more spacious feel; that kind of comfort from Separation Sunday. I went from "Well, they had a good run" to "This is a band at some kind of zenith" in one listen.

I'm onto the second listen, sounds epic already. They do sound a bit more classic rock and Craig is singing more now than speaking his lyrics. All good stuff.
