I've been getting right into Tommy Wright III recently, dunno if you've heard him or not, but he's a Memphis rapper, been around for years but I'm only just hearing him. If you like old Three 6 Mafia at all he's worth checking out, really grimy lo-fi sounding stuff, I've been battering his album Runnin-N-Gunnin. As far as west coast stuff goes, one of my all time favourite albums is Street Gospel by Suga Free, DJ Quik productions front to back, lyrics are flagrant pimp shit, it's a classic. Worth a look if you haven't heard it

Haha cheers man, I'm as stunned as you! Max B is a favourite of mine, his whole story's pretty tragic man, hope he gets out of jail and gets back on the wave. I've got a few mates who are into rap, but generally just the kinda 'legendary' type artists (Biggie, 2Pac, Outkast, Dre etc) and current popular stuff like ASAP Rocky or Rick Ross & stuff like that, not really the more obscure/regional stuff which I sometimes dabble in. There's usually a decent crossover of stuff we can all agree on though, which is pretty cool. Thankfully none of them are into the real boring backpack stuff, although a few of us did go & see Talib Kweli a coupla weeks ago haha! What age are you, out of interest? I'm 25, dunno if you'll be older or younger. I'm having to miss Jeezy cause of work, but Lil B is a cert, I'll see you there!

Good question about Gilberto - I started listening to his acoustic album first but he has so many albums. It may be good to start with the older stuff and then come forward. There are still quite a few good ones I havent heard yet.

I actually liked Yelawolf's Stereo tape from 2008 better than Trunk Muzik, actually, though TM is pretty good. Stereo is probably the best 'rap-samples-classic-rock-songs' project I've ever heard. His Ball of Flames Ricky Bobby tape is decent, too, and he has a digital EP on Amazon with some solid stuff on it, notably one of the better cuts from Stereo.

i thought that mad decent tape was pretty hot and cold, actually. the production gucci gets is a big part of his appeal so some of the remixes are wack when compared to the og beats, especially break ya self, but there are definitely a few gems. that playboy tre verse from the frowney face emynd rmx is dope as fuck

i think it's a solid album though it definitely slumps in the middle with those weak rnb tosses '2 da ladies' but i think i'll grab it while it's on first week $10 sale so that gucci will have money to buy cigs from the prison commissary while he's locked up haha. definitely agree that the movie is sick. i think that, classical, lemonade, and worst enemy are the best tracks. was pleasantly surprised by oj da juiceman's and especially soulja boy's guest verses though, they've really stepped their game up. i realize that it was the lead single and all that but honestly i would have left the og wasted off and just have the remix, maybe both of em. i think i'm gonna sort through everything and make my own 'best 09 gucci' comp because he hasn't put out a single tape this year where i don't skip 3 or 4 songs every time i listen to it. :hifive: super compatibility :thumbsup:

Of the ones I mentioned in that thread I'd start with The Gooch because it's no DJ and has most of the best 2009 Gucci songs. Prison Break and G Shit part 2 with Yo Gotti are also worth checking out, but there are also a bunch of really good Gucci loosies that you'd need to find on blogs
