I kinda didn't know what to listen to, so I asked my mom and she said The Who, her favorite songs are Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again, so I'm going with Who's Next, can't go wrong with this album.

Could you rec me something like or somewhere between Renaissance and Pentangle? I tried all of the obvious things one can find listening to whatever Spotify "Fans also liked" section shows and some, but since you heard more and a wider variety of groups in those genres, I was hoping you could point something out. Thanks

I assume that you've already listened to Fairport Convention and Curved Air. Other than those, perhaps you'd like Trees, they were a psychedelic folk band that released two albums in the early 70s: "The Garden of Jane Delawney" and "On the Shore". You might also like bands like Trader Horne, Fresh Maggots and The Woods Band. Sorry, I can't think of any others right now.

I know those. Steeleye Span, Albion Band, John Renbourn Group, Dando Shaft, Sunforest... i tried all that were immediatly connected with or that sprung from members of the more famous groups, as indicated by their bios. Whatever Spotify has, which I hope is not everything, I probably tried. I guess we can only hope so much to find more of something so specific and unique.

I am listening to Aghora, the band you recommended, it's awesome! You were right, it doesn't have death growls. But also it doesn't really sound like Cynic, even though it has their members in it. I think it has its own sound, more jazzy, and the guitars are amazing, I really love the solos, definitely some Allan Holdsworth inspiration.

Your thoughts on Alice Cooper (the band) vs Alice Cooper (the guy/solo act)? Saw your shout on a Jethro Tull song and thought i'd stop by to post a random question. I didn't know too much about the band prior to him being his own persona/act but they had some great songwriting imho- shame they parted ways.

I love both, but if I'd have to choose, I'd say Alice Cooper the band. I just feel that they were a stronger songwriting unit than just Alice and the musicians he'd have backing him later on. I have to say though, the first Alice solo album (Welcome to My Nightmare) is my favorite from either the band or the man, as well as being one of my favorite albums of all-time.

I saw it on your charts - it's interesting because i was familiar with the band's hits obviously - they get a lot of radio play. But I was more impressed by the songs I had never heard before on Billion Dollar Babies etc. - and then moving on to the solo Welcome to My Nightmare I couldn't help but feel it was lacking by comparison -BUT- i'm sure it will grow on me. As I navigated the Cat Stevens/Yusuf library of last.fm, I found that there's a separation on this website between them. I wanted to listen to "Teaser and the Firecat" which is my favorite of the albums on the website itself, out of curiosity as I normally use Spotify. I found that it was under his Cat Stevens name only, successful yet confusing? Anyway, I scroll a tad to see that one of the most current comments on it was yours from 2017. Weird, as it's so long ago. I read it and I believe that you were able to state how I feel about the album in a short amount of words. Quite impressive, as is your library, and how it somehow is highly compatible with mine. I'm a rambler, you see, and talk and bounce around a lot, and most of the time, it's set at around "very low" at best for most people. I should get to the point. Your review of Teaser and the Firecat was cool, just by first glance, you have a cool profile. I bet you're also a cool person too. If you read all that, thanks!

Tbh, I wouldn't really recommend it. There's too much effort in making the mixing sound more 'modern'. There's also this weird thing about adding some reverb to some of the drum tracks. Yeah Floating and the previous album ''Inside'' are by far their heaviest albums. After that they went more atmospheric and psychedelic space rock, rather than the hard rock on these two. That's right Ocean is great, it's the top rated album from Eloy on progarchives, so it's one of their proggiest I guess. I love it, but I think the inside and Floating might be more to my taste. Also I listen to music from itunes, which is from my CDs and what I've downloaded, but I also use spotify when I want to check out something new that I don't know, sometimes. I'm revisiting more 70s prog these days, now Mahavishnu Orchestra, that was some awesome stuff, I also listened to Magma (I think you didn't listen to Magma, they're like avant garde prog, pretty weird but it's definitely interesting, I know you love 70s music, maybe you could check them out.)

Mahavishnu Orchestra's debut album "The Inner Mounting Flame" is one of my favorite albums of all-time. I've noticed a lot of people with similar taste in music to me really love Magma. I think I've listened to them before, but it's been a long time, and I don't remember much about it, I'll be sure to give them another listen. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah no worries man. And yeah I Agree, I actually love more albums from Mahavishnu Orchestra, but yeah the debut is probably the best along with ''Birds of Fire'' I also really love ''Visions of Emerald Beyond'', and the Lost Trident Sessions. I am not sure if you'll like Magma, the thing is it's kinda avant garde prog, it's like for people who are into the weirder side of prog, for me it has taken me a long time to get into them, I first heard them a long time ago, and I wasn't a fan instantly, it took a long time to get into them properly, but I can say that it's worth it, as with other bands that grow on you, it's worth it though. But you'll see if you'll get into them.

Oh another coincidence, I just listened to Reelin' In The Years from Steely Dan a while ago while playing itunes shuffle songs, and then I checked your profile it is your last played song. I love that song, the guitar solo is phenomenal.

Yeah, I love that song, too. Even though they're not really related, I consider "Reelin' inn the Years and Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills and Far Away" to be two of the songs that personify rock music of the 70s. And yeah, not just the solo, but all the lead guitar work throughout that song is fantastic.

Over The Hills and Far Away is just an amazing song, I love it so much, I actually used to play it in my acoustic guitar, one of the first songs I learnt from Led Zepp. I also think the song The Ocean is awesome rock tune, always gives me a happy mood. Yeah and I need to check out the whole debut Steely Dan debut, I only know the album Aja as a whole.

Steely Dan has a lot of great albums. My Dad left his record collection to me and he had albums like "Pretzel Logic" and "Katy Lied". I recommend both albums, you should check them out.

I'm listening to Quadeophenia again and I think that the 3 best hard rock songs are probably The Real Me, the punk and the godfather and 5:15. They're awesome, I love all tracks of course but these 3 I'd say stand out as great heavy rock songs. I'm always blown away by "I've had enough " what a badass way to end CD 1.

Also another question - I don't see Deep Purple in your library, at least not in the top 50 artists, have you ever got into them? I figured since you love the 70s you'd also be into Deep Purple, or you don't like them much?

I think they formed the same year (1968), with Rush forming first. I think according to Geddy, they started off trying to imitate Cream before they started to try to emulate Led Zeppelin. Of course, I read all this information years ago, so I could be wrong.

It's a bit odd when I see band : ''started in X year'' and then the first demo or recording is like many many years later, to me when a band start should be around the release of the first demo.

''The band was formed in 1968 when the members were in their teens and went through several transitions and name changes in a short span. The band first formed in late spring/summer 1968 as The Projection, then changed to Rush after bassist Jeff Jones joined the band. In summer 1969 bassist Geddy Lee was replaced by Joe Perna and the band changed their name to Hadrian. By September 1969, after another series of lineup changes, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and John Rutsey regrouped under the name Rush.'' I just read this, ok so they were under different names in the 60s, so there might be demos from the old name bands.

Hey, great minds think alike. "Out on the Tiles" is a great rockin' number. I think that LZ III is Zep's most underrated album. The heavy tunes rock, and the acoustic folk-influenced tunes are remarkably beautiful. As you can see, it's one of my most-played albums on here. My favorite Zep along with "Physical Graffiti.

Yeah, Led Zeppelin along with The Who literally got me into all this great music, so for me it's hard to pick my most favorite one, Led Zeppelin debut, Led Zeppelin IV and Physical Graffiti probably my top 3, but I pretty much love all albums equally, just depends on my mood which LZ album I wanna spin, and usually to be honest I wanna do Led Zepp 1 till Physical Graffiti and then a few songs from Presence and In Through the Outdoor gets played the least often, but I Still love some tracks on it. Like In the Evening is a classick hard rockin track, Carouselambra, and I'm Gonna Crawl are my faves. Yeah agreed about LZ 3, very underrated, and I agree 100%, I think Tangerine is one of the most beautiful tracks they ever made, and Immigrant song, Celebration Day, Out on the tiles are great early heavy metal tracks!

I love "In the Evening", too. I know that Page used the violin bow on an acoustic guitar on "In the Light", as well, which is another favorite of mine. Then again, I probably have about fifty favorite Zeppelin tunes lol. They just have so many great ones. It's actually been a bit cooler here in Virginia, since it's been raining a lot. I'm sure it will get hot again, though. Like you I'm very eager for autumn to come.

Oh yeah, I forgot about In The Light that it was done with a violin bow on an acoustic guitar, I love that song - one of their best epic songs for sure. I agree they have so many great songs. Here it's been just relentlessly hot, it should get a bit colder for a few days now, but then hot again.

My favorite Zeppelin song is "That's the Way". I was obsessed with that song when I was 17, I thought it was the most beautiful song I'd ever heard in my life. "Kashmir" is also probably in my top 20 (possibly top 10) songs of all-time. What are some of your favorites? Yeah, it cooled down here for a few days, but now the heat is back with a vengeance. I know what you mean, autumn can't come soon enough.

Thanks, man. Yeah, rock music from the 70s is my favorite kind of music. Whether it be prog, hard rock, metal, ambient, jazz fusion, folk and folk-rock, blues-rock etc. or whatever else, the 60s and 70s have always been my favorite decades for music. I see that you've been listening to some 70s electronic music. I love that stuff, too. I'm doing fine. Work has been a bit stressful, but other than that I'm okay. How are you doing?

I would personally recommend the album "Agurire" if you want some relaxing music, it's hauntingly beautiful. Also, I love the Indian influences on albums like their "Nosferatu" soundtrack as well as the album "Das Hohelied Salomos". There's a whole lot of gems in their discography to discover. Glad you like them!

yeah, it's awesome! Listening to those albums right now from Spotify. I discovered that one of their tracks ''Kleiner Krieger'' from the Einsjäger & Siebenjäger album was used in Opeth's liveshows as an interlude music or something, I instantly recognised it when I listened to it. It comes off as no surprise since Mikael from Opeth loves all kinds of obscure 70s prog stuff! Which is one of the reasons Opeth is among my most favorite bands of all time. :)

Yeah, I love Opeth as well. I'm not normally into death/black metal, but I love their album "Still Life". I love the jazz influence and prog-rock references on that album, like how Mikael uses the first few chords from Camel's "Never Let Go" on the song "Benighted". I find that album is great to listen on crisp autumn and winter nights.

Hello, my friend! Yes, I have seen the trailers for Ahsoka. It looks really impressive, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the story of the Rebels characters continue. I'm really excited to see live action Thrawn. I'm also intrigued by Baylan, and I look forward to learning about his history and motives. I also hope we'll see Force ghost Anakin, and I'm seriously hoping we'll also see flashbacks involving Anakin and Ahsoka during the Clone Wars. What about you? What are your hopes for the series?

I am really excited for this series and have high hopes. I am also desperately hoping that we will get to see flashbacks with Anakin and Ahsoka. Seeing the beloved rebel characters will be amazing as Hera is one of my favourite characters. And I can't wait to see Thrawn and hopefully learn about what happened to Ezra. I am also really interested in Baylan and his padawan and how they will contribute to the story. Also, I watched the first two episodes, have you watched it?

Hi, yes I have. I'm really interested to know about Ahsoka and Sabine's history that we didn't see in Rebels. I'm still fascinated by Baylan and Shin, as well. The performances are good, all around. The only thing I hated was the fact that Sabine was somehow able to survive being stabbed in the abdomen with no explanation. I'm also not to keen on visiting another galaxy, but we'll see how it goes. It was awesome to see Hera again, and Chopper was as funny as always. I hope we'll also see Zeb and Kanan (in flashbacks, obviously), and maybe even Kallus, as well. Only time will tell. What did you think about the episodes?

Yep, I was devasted to see Sabine being stabbed as I thought she wouldn't survive it. I am glad that she is alive but her miraculous recovery was very confusing. But other than that, I look forward to watching more episodes and seeing the story unfold. Also, I loved seeing Chopper again and the references to episodes of Rebels. Seeing Sabine put on a Mandalorian armour was beautiful and seeing Sabine play the hologram of Ezra was a tearjerker for me. And can't wait to see more characters like Kanan, Anakin and Kallus as you mentioned.
