Obscurity doesn't scare me at all. You probably saw Ahnenstahl in my top - no one even knows if they still exist! With that particular Dornenreich song you indeed better wait for metal mood, but I can recommend some other stuff, if you like. For example, if you feel like waltzing (hehe), check Angizia - Aus Traum und Tanz. Ein Walzer. Just photoshopped a wallpaper this morning about it ^^

Hmm. A very interesting song, I got to admit. I am not a fan of female vocals (although German has like two exceptions already, haha), and in this song the singing and the music sometimes sound too dissonant, but the part before the end was powerful. Can't say I like it, but I very well understand why other people do. Anyway, the fact that I listen to a lot of German stuff doesn't mean I like it all. For example, Traumhaus (nice name for a band, doesn't it remind you of someone?) is claimed to be progressive metal, and this is one of by biggest disappointments EVER. But there's also great music. Some of it makes me lose my mind. Like, right now I can't stop thinking that Dornenreich – Reime faucht der Märchensarg sounds a lot like old Opeth, if you replace growling with screaming and English with German.

The three big progressive metal bands of my life are Opeth, Dream Theater and Savatage, and I guess this corresponds to the amount of "lemme hear it again". Although I think I can insert BTBAM either between Opeth and DT or DT and Savatage even! But it's hard to judge because I've been listening to tons and tons of stuff auf Deutsch, and my tastes shifted somewhere towards black metal. Btw, I can recommend Noekk. This is a progressive metal band founded by guys who are mostly busy with Empyrium, and Empyrium is the classic of black metal - not the true norwegian black metal kind, haha, but more of a mellow atmospheric black. I guess if you'll like Noekk (there's not much to check, sadly, so it won't take much time) you'll have gates to a whole new world open for you. I won't tell about this world yet, but it's not in German only ;)

Eh I know something about non-metal periods I think, but unlike a lot of people I know I can never quite leave it be. I've even checked some of my weekly top artists snapshots - and there's always a metal part. I am more likely to listen to nothing at all, haha. Although there was a time when I thought I will never stop listening to alternative/nu-metal, so maybe I shouldn't be that sure, haha. Wow, it's great that you find Savatage to be on par with Opeth. I gotta admit Opeth fascinates me more - I still tend to think that Still Life is the best album I've heard in my life - yet I can understand why it works that way for you. Much like Opeth, Savatage changed (death-progressive-WTF (just kidding, hehe) for Opeth and heavy-progressive for Savatage), and this alone keeps things very interesting. And they're highly unlikely to change again, if to look at JOP and Oliva, their latest albums don't show any real diversion. I think BTBAM are wonderful and I'm yet to find more that I'll love.

I just realised you're holding Savatage's HOTMK (not some random stuff), which kinda makes me really glad ^^ Are you looking forward to their reunion this summer? I've noticed you haven't listened to Coma Ecliptic yet - write a few words about it once you have, because this album got me out of German/Austrian black/epic/gothic metal, which I thought would not happen that easily, haha.

There's been a lot of stuff for sure. Tons to talk about. I haven't watched that review since the time I was editing it :P but hey, if you're still interested in doing the whole podcast thing, I am too.

Have you checked out the latest album of Marina & The Diamonds? Pretty nice Pop... The new Sigh album is also worth a listen... It's a bit hard to give you recommendations, because last.fm is buggy at the moment and I can't see what you've allready checked out when I go tho the artist pages... :(

Wow, absolutely impressing song. But I wish it wasn't in German, because the lyrics are a bit inelegant, in my eyes. I think it is way harder to write poetry in German than in English, I tried it myself multiple times, but the English poems where always better. In German, stuff often becomes more kitschy and feels more forced. This is why I dislike many German Artists. Nevertheless there are lots of examples of awesome German poetry in music, whose lyrics raise their music to a complete new level, like Dornenreich, one of my favorite bands. Another problem are the differences and slangs in our language: For example, just about 30 km away from my hometown the people talk so completely different, that they sometimes aren't able to find a job in our area, because we think they sound weird or funny (like her Austrian slang does, although I'm very often in Austria). Anyway: Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely listen to more of her stuff... :)

Yes, I said it's a (maybe overdone) generalization and of course that doesn't mean that I don't have any male friends. But for me personally this is the experience I made in the last years and it just came to my mind when you said, you're surrounded by mostly flat persons :)

Mhhh. Of course I'm generalizing it very unreasonably, but I still think there is this diffrence between boys and girls. It comes down to our education and what the society expects from both genders. Boys are in addition (at least according to my experience) often more introverted (like I used to be), so they don't show very much of themselves to others, sometimes even to "close" friends, just because of the boundaries created by the role they have to play, if they want to get accepted in our society. Girls have that problem too, but not as strong as boys (again just according to my experience). But this is just my controversial point of view :)

Well, I can't complain about my home (South Germany). I live in a medium-sized city, next to a quite big city and to a country area too, so there is happening a lot of stuff :) Mhhh... but I know what you mean. The best advice I can give you, is to simply make something happen. Grab a friend and travel to a festival this summer, for example. Yes, this is expensive, but you will get more from the experience, than spending the same amount of money on records.

Actually I liked some Heritage songs faster than, for example, the whole Blackwater Park, but I'm a weirdo, so that doesn't count :D I was just looking at my stats and thinking: when I have started to listen to both Opeth and Dream Theater I got into their latest albums (that wasn't the first thing that happened, Opeth officially began with Windowpane, hehe) and it didn't took me long. But the problem is that I rarely listen to these both anyway. Funny :) And I don't think you have to rip albums all by yourself, even pretending that there are not a single pirate source, you can buy it on iTunes, I guess :)

Haha, yeah, I often prefer music to a bunch of people too, music is way more manageable :D As for album's versions - well, I don't get anything of that vinyl madness, so I'd have ordered blu-ray / CD :) As for amazingness of Pale Communion... nah, it depends on a listener, so you'll see for yourself, but I can say without spoiling things that it's hard to figure out what is going on after listening to it just once. Funny thing is that I wrote what I think after the first playing, and I have to fix that, listen more, definitely...

Oh, life was shaking me in both happy and unhappy directions, now the situation seems to be improving to zero line. But music was always there to either support or even rescue me :) As for the album - okay, I won't be spoiling that (beware to look at my fb page then, it's bright and shiny there), and be patient, there's more than a month of waiting, hehe.

Well my preferences are of course something more heavy (why i like Death Grips) and i also like progressive music. My favorite bands (recently) are Cynic, Death Grips, Mastodon, Between the Buried and Me, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and Vader. My opinions on hip hop are very hit or miss. I LOVE Death Grips And Odd Future but like Jay-z and Drake bore me and it sounds bad to me. As for electronic i haven't really listen to it much but when i have tried i have not been that crazy for it. Thanks for the add!

Don't worry, I still have a plenty of things to check out, send recommendations just if you have them :) Speaking of YouTube - so sad that I can't scrobble from there... I'm able to scrobble from vk.com, but I use YouTube much more often and sometimes I do hear something good there but forget to go further. Of course YouTube is smart enough to remind you about such things - that's how I got into Avenged Sevenfold. They brought me to Mike Portnoy, hence to DT and sometimes I wonder how I would go to progressive road if there wasn't a recommendation of So Far Away once :)
