Oh you don't have to tell me, there have been times where I've scrolled through entire ancient shoutboxes, reading the little back and forth convos... I didn't really have friends online growing up so I missed out on that, and now that everything is instant-messaging, I get wistful thinking of the days when the net was slower, logging in to see a personal message notification... and then waiting excitedly for the next one, not to mention when there were multiple sites and it wasn't all shoved onto a single hivemind like Twitter :P

Have your first shout in just barely over five years—I'll follow just about anyone who mixes good indie with metal, but the adorable Arino avatar, retro gaming, and good taste in Persona characters secured the deal, so cheers! :P

that sounds really great :P I love vinyls as well it's just that they are always sooo expensive in the shops here..and yeah, want to go to the gig so bad but most likely I'll miss it same goes to all the good bands gigging here soon because I know no one who's into them that would go with me lol :( can you recommend me some bands please?

oh no!!! most likely i'm not seeing him because I have no one to go with, aaand I'm a bit scared to just go by myself...I just hit the "I'm interested" button lol but anyways, yeah I play fighting games for the most part, mostly from the ps2 era, love games like virtua fighter, soul calibur, tekken, etc what games do you play the most then?

The III reissue looks the most interesting to me. Are you going to go for the vinyl? I really want to get it but I fear the words "super deluxe" are code for some ungodly amount. I don't know how to feel about the live show and the color inversion is pretty cool, I guess. I guess I've forgotten that malls are struggling. I haven't actually walked into one in years. It's my latent leftism. A mall bigger than the last seems to crop up in every Texan suburb. Sounds fitting that the Dawn of the Dead mall is dead. My only tolerance is for the SNK double arcades because I've gleaned so much joy from them through the years. Agreed. Pac Man Fever is very close to the apex of American culture. And of course Nintendo was the phoenix. Also, sorry about the late reply. I've been dealing with personal crap that snuck up on me.

Never heard of Radiata Stories. How is it? It's a good system with a deep library. And I mean because it had great games not because it's so large. I think a man could probably live on the ps2, especially if you add all the psone games. Didn't they resurrect Splatterhouse recently for the ps3? I'll have to keep my out for the sequels. How's the Befheart book? I'm really into two of their albums. From what I understand the Dreamcast could do pretty perfect ports of Capcom arcade releases, right? I don't know the deal with Saturn. I hadn't actually noticed that about the Genesis. I remember an awful port of my early arcade favorite The Punisher. Genesis is probably the most underrated of the big systems. I had the same problem with it. Worse is the section where he speaks of Mike Joyce's court case, but other than that. Thanks for the link. It's fascinating that all the crappy franchise games are so high and the sheer brilliance that is Castlevania is $5.90.

Probably so. I don't think one could possibly beat them all or even enjoy them all. It would take a lifetime. I really don't know why they had a Dreamcast. They had several consoles. But that's Texas for you. Churches everywhere, occasionally with entertainment centers. I didn't even know about the Genesis sequels. Shittttttttt. Yeah, they were a lame business but I benefited from the stupid pricing a few times. You should definitely link me if you happen to come across the guide again. Yes, it has that kind of fanbase. Almost all the Capcom stuff on Dreamcast was great. I've been meaning to get a copy of Capcom Vs. SNK 2, which was even better than MVC2. Btw, did you enjoy the Morrissey book? I haven't finished it myself.

Hey what do ya think about these new Led Zep reissues? Barrel scraping or awesome? Yes, I agree. Even As great as Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga are I'm kinda sick of seeing them everywhere. Isn't there one in your mall? I lived in the suburbs most of my life and the nickel arcade is still there. I haven't been in years though. And sadly, most people don't wanna mess with an old arcade game. Hey! people can be taught/brainwashed! Video game appreciation is a vastly important part of our culture. It should be taught in public schools everywhere! Yeah, I saw the pics. very cool. It must really suck to run out of batteries that quick, though. As awesome as it is, I heard that the TG-16 has some pretty in depth games.

Gotta admit, HotD and California Speed are pretty bitchin' There are still a few in my area. Don't you still see them at the cinema and the like? That's very cool. Splatterhouse is one of the few games I've played and I know Axe and Bonk are considered some of the better games. That sucks. I haven't actually run into one anywhere. I don't see much of consoles much anymore. Yes, do so. Take the picture. And they don't do any maintenence at all. I've been going to this one place a long time and I've seen the machines degrade. But I really don't have the space for the massive things. Those tubes tvs man. There are a lot of people out there who dislike pac-man who are older than you. I run into people who haven't even heard of Quake.

Actually, according to Wikipedia, there are 3870 games on PS2. Which is way too damn many dude. Ha, it was as bad as any other church actually. It just had a Dreamcast. It was more like bribery. I guess word just didn't get out about the rarity of those games then. Really Super Mario for nes? I thought they made like 90 million copies of it. Can't understand how it might sell for 20. I'd have to go back and look at THUG, I guess. I actually burned a copy of mvc2 with a different score because the soundtrack was so god awful. It cost too much to have to listen to that crap. I blame Activision fully. If they had more time to develop a game It would've turned out wonderfully.

I guess I was thinking of the psone that had a gargantuan library. Yes, I can very easily see someone going to Funcoland around that time and getting 20 or more nes games for $20. People just didn't value their games. The market will probably level out though. Yes, Power Stone 2 was great. There was a church I attended just so I could play that game before and after service. MVC2 too. It's been a awhile. I would say that 2 is probably my favorite. I'm about to bust out 3. By the time THUG came out I had too much Tony Hawk so I didn't give it much of a chance. I heard they added some annoying things like driving? Yes, siblings can suck awfully hard. I think we should have them fed to sharks.

Well, what I'm talking about aren't modern cabinets per se. I'm just talking about the generic arcade cabinets you see everywhere. When I see a newer cabinet, which is rarely, they're still pretty impressive. And I know that arcades are still popular in Japan. No, these were complete and they probably somehow got into a box of cds I was selling. A terrible thing to have happened. I also lost a few PC games I miss already. I'm surprised such peripheals were popular, but I guess the idea of a mini tv could really sell. I'll take a photo of Alien Crush and the Kirby toy and post it on RYM for you to check out. I think the main factor is the heat in laundromat not to mention the temperatures Texans already have to deal with. That would be a very cool thing to own. Everybody loves Pac-Man. Well, most people.

Yes I remember you telling me now about Shadow being a decent game. That's surprising I didn't think there would be another "great" sonic game. Especially after that hack n slash game. Stickers have always been a nuisance. On used cds too. Obiviously on vinyl it eseentially ruins the record. I agree, Now they're not so impressive. The cabinets usually have no defining features and I'm seeing a lot of Mame setups in cabinets nowadays I can't find the other games I had. I think I might have accidentally sold or lost them in the move but I remember one of them was called Silent Debuggers. I have Alien Crush on my desk right now. If you'd like to seriously discuss it we can exchange contact through a pm here. Can't you watch tv on the Game Gear too? Every time I go to do laundry they have an arcade and they're not maintained at all. Sometimes the buttons catch.

Yeah, it's crazy. I don't know how they did it. It must have taken years. Especially NES, Jesus aren't there upwards of a thousand titles on that thing? You know, I didn't really notice any anti-Sega bias. That might have been true at one time. But i'm not familar with the magazine during the Genesis years. The list I'm referring to is pretty Nintendo heavy, but it had a far amount of Sega games. And I always considered the Dreamcast a real gamers console, which I think contributed to it's downfall. Yeah, It might upset you when you keep trying to revert and can't. I mean just the level design of those games were awesome so I always found it fun even to go back and play the first one. They flooded the market. At the time I didn't even bother with THUG because of that. It even made the sound effects and all that shit. It was ingenious. I can never forgive my sister.

If you still had it would you sell it? Yes, I am. I've never seen that one. I'll link you to it. It wasn't in great condition but worked and was still very cool. I always prefered EGM actually. I really liked their 100 best console games ever list from way back when. They were a great mag up until the last generation. From what I understand Activision wanted to turn Tony Hawk into a Madden like franchise. And it worked for a while. It's too bad. Those games had some awesome soundtracks. I used to have a lot of the comics. Not so much anymore, I got rid of them somewhere along the line. I remember really liking the anime "movie". Apparently the American version is heavily censored. Sonic flips off eggman. I'm sure we've talked about this, but to reiterate are any of the Sonic games past Adventure 2 really worth playing? lol at sticker on vinyl. I actually haven't run into that. Neo-Geo's are great. I mean the whole appeal is bringing the arcade into your living room. Most people nowadays don't seem to think much of arcade games anymore. That they don't offer the depth of Cod or some shit. Yes, I'd love to get a Turbografx-16 too. I've got Alien Crush and a few other games around. Is the Express basically like a Sega Nomad? I figure those two would be high, considering most place don't take care of their arcade machines at all. Finding one in good condition would be difficult.

I'll try one of these days. I know I've got him around somewhere. I've a few Sonic keepsakes too. A Where's Sonic book that's based on that Waldo fellow. And I used to buy the comics too. Yep, I almost went over the edge of fanboyism. They have a very specific system. Their grading technique is at their web site. You gotta admit stickers suck. When you get records tumblrwith stickers on them it really sucks. I really love SNK. I can see how that might happen. The Neo Geo was awesome but again I'm won't be coming up with the millions anytime soon. I almost considered purchasing a Samurai Showdown II arcade at one time. Of course that's a bit different. You can emulate most of those games now perfectly so it seems pretty damn silly. I think zwei gets the most recognition because it was directly mentioned as an influence by the creator of Dune II. Like any genre it had a long gestation process.

Yes! I used to have those very ones. Yes, it's always very sad to have lost something like that. But it was difficult to keep those N64 and snes boxes in good shape. I might post it on RYM. I'm tired of being represented by a suicidal Nic Cage. Oh, man I used to have mini Pac-Man arcade that was really cool. Somehow I ended up giving it to my sister. I don't know how it happened and she got rid of it somewhere along the line. I've been seeing it go on Ebay for $60-$100 I wasted god knows how many hours on that thing. That's about all I liked in Game Informer too. I thought EGM had more depth. You feel old? My first issue of GI had Tony Hawk on the cover. I think it was for the 4th game. They were talking about Activision's business model, which is what killed the series sadly.

Yes you told me about your find. I've got a few gaming magazines. I got rid of quite a bit of them and took pictures out for the wall. Vintage EGM was awsome. Sushi-X was awesome. Old Game Pro was cool too. Tips and Tricks was mostly cheat codes though. I used to have some of the very first Nintendo Powers too. It's almost impossible to find old magazines now. I usually run across Game Informers if anything. Too bad Game Informer sucks. I'm sure a few of them are enjoyable in some way.

I have a Kirby toy that I stole from someone's kid's meal. He's on a warp star and there are wheels underneath. It's a delight! I'll have to send you a picture sometime. I actually went to their website and it says they judge even the cellophane and the placement of price stickers. So an employee at Target over twenty years ago could potentially ruin your grade! Herzog Zwei isn't really like Warcraft II anyway. It's like comparing Chuck Berry to The White Album. By that point neither had much in common anymore. I played the Crusader of Centy a bit. And I enjoyed it. But I can tell you this. I died. Cool game, but not many games are $80 of cool. Sounds like an interesting take on it.

I can understand grading baseball cards but a comic or a video game you can't really do much with. It becomes some kind of art object to a few select people and kitsch to the rest of us. And I don't understand how you can grade a game that's unopened. I can't comment on the Saturn version as I know nothing about it, but the PC version is great fun. And typically I can't stand fantasy settings. The story is awesome and I spent a lot of time LANing that mofo in middle school. I was about to bust out the disc but I don't think it'll run on my computer anymore. You're gonna have to burst your rts bubble sometime. Do the Everly Bros actually do Rip It Up convincingly?

Hey, man, If you're after the complete collection, I don't think you really have a choice. I just got the rom, I'll check it out for you. I'm a little bit of a pack rat plus I was exposed to Tips & Tricks magazine which included video game collecting so I tried to keep most of mine. Unfortunately, I didn't keep everything like the boxes in some cases. Yeah, but playing something like Counter Strike or Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 online is a lot different than an MMO. MMOs really become their own world separate from the one we're living on.

Yes, RPG obsessees are clinically insane people who most likely have obscenely large hat collections. I like the game but it's not worth that much to me. Also, I didn't know they had a video game grading service. Kind of annoying you ask me. What good is keeping them under glass? Eh, he's not that bad. He is familar with older stuff, just more into older strategy games, I guess. I think once he hooked up with pc stuff he left behind 16 bit gaming. And I think something like Warcraft II still holds up pretty well while a lot of those old sidescrollers can seem daunting in the age of infinite continues. I suppose the clones were interesting to people who mained the original character. Gave the game a little more replayability.

Exactly, the Game Boy compilations are the next best thing. Some of those games are suprisingly involving. I haven't played the SNES version in a while. All my friends got rid of their old consoles sadly. They had fucking awesome collections too. And they traded them in at Gamestop for a shitty flavor of the month game they never even completed. Actually, a lot of MMOs have gone free to play for some reason. And a lot of high profile ones have flopped pretty hard like FF XIV. I guess people enjoy the social aspect of it. That's the only appeal I can see. I've never seen real interesting game play in an MMO and grinding just isn't very fun most of the time. I've never heard of that one. It definitely looks like Link to the Past from the screenshots I saw. It'd be nice to get out of the Zelda universe for a time.

I guess you're right. It's probably considered cheating. Yes, he was a very colorful character. Did you play the Game & Watch Gallery games on Game Boy? I loved those things. Because of your shout I went and played them a bit. You really find the Genesis Aladdin difficult? Are you playing it on hard? I think it might have something to do with David Perry who designed it. He also did Earthworm Jim. You seem to have a problem with his games. I haven't played Genesis Lion King in so long. I completely forgot about the stampede. It's nightmarish. I'm with you on them MMOs. I've lost several friends to those things. I don't consider them games, but a disease to be avoided. Not even Landstalker on Genesis? Does that game count?

Wow! I had no idea. I should tell my friend about this. I can't believe they're so high. Even the G.U. titles. Again, can't vouch for the first four games. The story to the games is pretty intense though and I can see people being interested solely for that reason. You're the only person I really talk to about games. I don't really troll video game sites or anything. No one else I know likes classics. This one guy I used to hang with scoffs at the very mention of anything old. Your reviews are pretty even handed and you admit to liking Bubsy. Very unfanboy of you. Did you ever play Bubsy 3d? I hear it's awful. A friend used to play with Pichu to handicap himself. So it was useful there. Young Link was an interesting variation on Link for me but I agree that he pretty much sucked. Hopefully the clone characters never come back.

Hell, I'd probably like HZ if I went back and tried it again. I said the same thing about the rts when I first came across it. It's just another awesome genre. I somehow manage to avoid most anything that's current and popular. Maybe it's a gift. Yes, you're right about that. When I played against computers I set them all to Game & Watch. He was by far the most annoying character in the game. I still love everyone in Melee except Roy maybe. Have you ever tried to play Smash competitively or do you think it's a bunch of nonsense? I'm sure there are big differences in the psone and n64 version. The N64 version was probably ported over with different graphics and buggier game play like they tended to do. I haven't even heard them. I don't really keep up anymore. I've become old and craggly, it appears. Everyone I liked to play in Melee didn't do to well in Brawl either. I almost always played as random in Brawl. That was how little I cared. Yeah, I've seen it for $3 regularly. I was just surprised to find myself enjoying COM at all. I'm not fond of anything Disney has done for the better part of it's history. Though I liked Mickey Mania. Did you ever play the .Hack games? They also have real time combat.

What? That's terrible news. Everyone says that but Herzog Zwei never really impressed me. I played Battlezone 64 first and Herzog Zwei just kinda reminded me of a 16 bit version of it. Not even the N64 versions of Command and Conquer and Starcraft? Both come recommended and are different enough from the PC versions to make them worthwhile. Also, co-op Starcraft 64 is on of the great underrated experiences on the 64. I did the same thing with The Everly Brothers. A few of their singles were played quite often in my youth. I can't say I watched a marathon of Fresh Prince though I can't even remember what I did New Year's Eve. I was in bed before midnight, I know that. Modern 2d Mario is playable. But I didn't think anyone other than Nintendo fanboys thought it was great stuff. 'Course, there's not much competition in that field, sadly.

Is that the N64 game with Sammy Sosa on the cover? I tried to play that one. Maybe the Home Run Derby was ok, but playing an actual game was terrible. It seemed like everytime you hit a foul ball it would shut the game down for a minute. Ok, I'll check that out. I never listened to Christopher Lee albums but I'd assume they're awesome because it's fuckin' Christopher Lee. I'd say that's how I feel about most of the top 40 at any given time. I was the only one of my friends with a Wii so I was forced to play the game for long after that. I was briefly popular. They enjoyed the game more than me. I was sleepwalking. Eh, that's what I thought about Brawl when I heard Solid Snake was in it. Turned out it didn't do much for the gameplay. I felt conned tbh. I'll try. It's fun seems to rest in playing with your friends and getting them killed. I found Brawl to be such a terrible game in relation to both Melee and the original I'm not interested in the new one at all. The last gasp I remember of TMNT was that brief live action series. I actually enjoyed that. Alright, man. Just thought I'd ask I'm quite fond of the baseball games, but it's very difficult find a decent game. I have to play my 162 game seasons alone. it's pitiful really. Interesting. I was starting to think Neil Was just releasing a bunch of similar era live shows with little variation. Perhaps I'll check it out after all. I always forget about radio oversaturation in my estimation of music. I tried to play a friend Paul's Boutique but he won't even give it a chance because Licensed to Ill has been so overplayed. I guess Brass Monkey isn't as good the 1000th time. The Pat Boone thing is a minor novelty in my book. It's got nothing on Shatner's Transformed Man.

Yeah, and unfortunately the bad white guy cover thing has continued on through the ages. You'd really have to be Led Zeppelin to get away with a thing like that. For me the nadir has always been Doggie in the Window. It's so cutesy and sacchrine but not enough to get you sick. It just doesn't have what it takes to go all the way like a bubblegum classic. Nah, man I can't look at your low ratings. At 2 pages into 2 stars I see many songs I love. It's too much for me. Video game story telling has it problems. I think something like Half-Life gets it perfect, but I'm usually disappoointed by cinematic cut scenes and I think the problem with text boxes is obvious. I just don't really think that's realistic at this point. It's like asking for a 200 million dollar movie that isn't dumb. Most gamers don't seem to care about old genres.

Ha, I have little to no awareness of what's cool. I honestly thought it was the renaissance painters who picked up steam in the nineties with TMNT and GNR being byproducts, lol. I definitely will look into the titles you've mentioned. Sorry, but the Mutant League games are too arcadey for me. Being bored to tears by baseball is part of it's charm, man. It's so damn laid back you can take naps, bathroom and hot dog breaks in between pitches. But I'd say it isw probably the hardest sport to get right. Sad to say but Neil will probably drop by then. In which case they'll probably have millions of releases ready to go. Ha, yeah, they play that one on TV all the time. Sounds like an awesome find. And yeah, that Timmy Thomas song is a classic. I agree with you to an extent. I have friends who've insulted Pac Man and Tetris which I can't understand. Sure it's simple, but it's perfect game play. The vidya equivalent of a Ramones song. I think the cinematic influences in most games are put to terrible use and the writing is equally bad. But there's clearly a hunger for simpler gameplay. You see smaller games on Steam and the other online console shops that are clearly influenced by the games of yore. And I can't say I think escapism is the loftiest or the only purpose of games. Having said that, Metal Gear Solid and Killer 7 are two of my favorite games. Did you at least find any 45s? Hope you had fun at your show. He just played my town a few weeks ago and I missed him.

But I'm sure it's bashed for the same reason, so whatev. Yes, you can get some really cool stuff that way. I'd find radio station copies of stuff I never thought I'd see for the cheap. Poor baby boomers. How they got stuck with Captain Muskrat Manilow and Tennille. Does that mean you're not totally against Billy Joel and Elton John? Or that you find them too painful to speak of. It wasn't that great, no, but for some reason TMNT was still somehow cool when I was in elementary school. Vanilla Ice wasn't, thank god. So it's like they stole my 'cool' man. I had to hide under the slide and play my Game Boy in shame. Sounds cool. I'll have to check it out, sounds like it'd be an awesome two player game. Yeah, at that point they were just beating the dead horse known as Street Fighter II. Just like they're doing with IV now. Yeah,NHL is so arcadey and fun it never gets old. I developed a habit of just buying completely random things from the record store clearance bins and ended up with quite a bit of regional things. But it's not a central interest of mine either. hah, I never thought The Eagles were that wholesome. One of These Nights is dangerously close to soundtracking a 70's porno. But I guess I kinda know what you mean. Who else would you classify as 'wholesome whitebread? Yes, they did. Too much trouble to transfer them? What I can't wait for is all the one star reviews of the Super Mario series. People really have an illogical hatred of those games and bubblegum music too, actually. Setting the standard for platforming isn't enough for them. Lucky you. I drank alone and watched old movies no one cares about anymore. Maybe I shouldn't admit to that.
