hey! well answering your question and counting that i've been a big fan of dimmu borgir, the reason i say that is, they did their time, they were quite a legend, there are many reason why i said that, the departure of an half of the band (Which is Vortex, Hellhammer and Mustis) that is not the main reason but the sound is defenetly changed after that and not in a good way, the new album that on my point of view is a such big fail, not a masterpiece we expect from such a big band like them, plus i saw them live about one week ago and i'm sorry to said that but they sucked, i "almost" couldn't reconize the tracks, the sound was so bad and believe me the avenue had nothing to do with the sound also cause Enslaved played brilliantly good and clear ... really disappointed... Nile can be good when they write riffs as opposed to doing pointless blasting. They're probably one of the better modern/tech-ish sort of death metal but it's not a style i like a lot. Haven't heard any Behemoth, they just don't really interest me. I'm probably not the person to ask about death metal; I know a bit but I towards the older/slower variants of the genre.

Dimmu? Oh dear. One band that I really dig- only in the same genre as Dimmu in the broadest sense, mind- is Darkspace. I like all their stuff but III has their best production, song writing etc. Spacey, dark, heavy. A little bit raw. Otherwise if you want some black metal you may as well start with all the greats/best known bands; Mayhem's De Mysteriies (sp?), first few Immortal albums.. Burzum's not really dark as such but it is atmospheric and it is great. Bathory's sign of the black mark would be another good starting point. For stuff that's heavy, dark, primitive and excellent, you could do worse then to check out Hellhammer and the first Celtic Frost release, and maybe also the excelent Hellhammer clone band Warhammer. Hope that helps.. that was a broad question you asked. Happy hunting..
