Most detractors, and JJ fans for that matter are...for lack of a better word, dumb. In the post-TVR batch, "Damita Jo" winds hands down in its ability to renenergize Janet's classic urban sounds (lost on the overt-pop misstep of "All For You") by keeping the Janet/Lewis/Jam formula intact but bringing in fresh blood to make her relevant in a smart way to a variety of audiences. I also have a big soft spot for "20 Y.O." too. I did an essay, waaaay back in time on my site, that details what I call "The Post-Velvet Rope" Syndrome. Check it out: http://qhblend.blogspot.com/2008/03/post-velvet-rope-syndrome-which-lp-is.html This is early QH Blend so forgive the haphazardness it may employ over some of my later, more polished work on Ms. Jackson. Oh, and don't be ashamed, we know DJ is everythang. ;)
