Hola! How's the dance music treating ya? Next week I'm headed for New York to catch [artist]Robyn[/artist] and [artist]Kelis[/artist] for their joint summer tour, ha ha. [artist]Dan Black[/artist], whom I also like a lot, will also be performing at that show. Are you going to catch [artist]Crystal Castles[/artist] and [artist]Rusko[/artist] at Stubb's for [event=1520617]Hard Summer Tour[/event] next month? I'm still debating whether I wanna drop the $40 or so on these guys at that venue.

I went to see the Murder City Devils as well. A bit disappointing after their remarkable 2007 Fun Fun Fun Fest set, I thought. I also realize time and time again that I really don't much care for shows at the Mohawk. Yay for being such a downer, ha ha. I'm hoping that the MSTRKRFT audience on Friday will be full of excitement potential, in any event. Time to get that dance on.

Of course I am pumped about MSTRKRFT. This is a crazy week for shows for me overall - hardly an evening of rest and recuperation. I see you've been indulging in Mohawk shows yourself. Any highlights there?

Hrmpf. The venue (Republic Live?) and the ticket cost ($20) for MSTRKRFT give me pause. Are you going for sure?

Nope...apart from the bit of electro scheduled at Fun Fun Fun Fest, I don't see much of anything of the sort on my horizon at the moment. Not a very dancy fall from what I can tell thus far...but let me know if you come across something. I'm usually game.

Sounds stressful (upside-down-ness) and good (swapping music et al.) I'll be in touch shortly.

Virtual music friend - where have you been, what shows have you gone to, what new music have you discovered of late? Haven't been in touch in a couple of months, oy vey.

Did you make it to Daedalus and Ghislain Poirier at Emo's last night? I wish I had, but I had company in town that would not have enjoyed themselves at that show. Of course I regret not having gone now. Ack.

Oops/boo. I wouldn't be able to go either - got company in town through the end of the week. Did you catch The Field a week and a half ago? I stupidly missed him, thinking he'd headline that show, but by the time I arrived he'd already finished and The Juan Maclean was on. Speak about disappointment.

I do like that Pillowface mix from a couple of winters ago - his inclusion of New Noise by The Refused early on in that made me happy. Why do you ask?

I thought it was decent. Their set was not as aggressive and dense as past sets of theirs I've experienced and the crowd seemed a bit tamer compared to previous audiences, but that was lucky for me and my healing ankle. It sounded good to me and there was enough variation in the performance to keep my attention. All in all, I was happy with it, albeit it not delighted. How about you?

Yeah, I do like Little Boots and will probably look for her full-length when it's officially available. Her SXSW Emo's day show was charming (for a 1pm set anyway) but cast some doubt as to whether I'd bother to venture out to see her perform live in the future. In Austin, that is. I can imagine Little Boots live being fun in a club full of happy dancing people. Seems more difficult here than elsewhere for music that has such a distinct European dancefloor flavor to it.

How'd Ratatat work out for you? Sending you a couple of links to electro music you might get a kick out of via DM in a minute.

Crystal Castles are a must for me (although I just managed to twist my left ankle - argh, I hope I'll be over that in a week and a half to be fit for the teenage insanity that Alice Glass inspires live) but I'm likely passing on both Ratatat and Ladytron. Ratatat don't do it for me anymore live and Ladytron are swell on stage, but I'm content seeing them once every 5 years (the last time I saw them CSS opened for them and that combination was tops.) I'm going to New York and Philly to catch Bat for Lashes thrice at the end of the month and I'm quite excited about that little jet-setting prospect.

I caught The Whip's showcase at La Zona Rosa on Saturday. Low attendance (8:40pm slot), hardly anybody was dancing, and they played an all-too-short 4-song set. Ack. I was hoping for much more than that. The following night I saw their drummer hang out at Emo's and I felt compelled to compliment her on making drumming look good (she really does move her body well when she plays) but her apparent state of drunkenness dissuaded me. A friend suggested that their set at the Perez Hilton thing at that warehouse off of I-35 was good. *sigh*

We have very similar tastes in music. I wonder if we are as similar in any other respects.
