I'll tell you the band that came out of nowhere and knocked me on my ass, though: Explosions in the Sky. <3 "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place" and specifically the song "First Breath After a Coma" a bagillion times.

On your point about not being for everyone, the most apt single word I can use for Animal Collective so far is "challenging." Its certainly good to work and work out to. Its impossible to read to. Impossible to chill out to, but I can imagine it while staring at the sky in some park (this weekend?). Between Sung Tongs and Strawberry Fields (I cheated), it's the later for me, though. When For Reverend Green hit I sunk deep into the album and am slowly liking as a whole work. I'm going to loop back around Feels then try their newest everyone raves about. But slowly, I think. I need to recover.

So like Sung Tongs and Feels? You know, I talked about you at this bar the other night while talking about social network sites like last.fm where the only tie is music. (I mentioned I'm kind of in love with this woman on last.fm for her loved tracks.) This place is great. I'm excited about giving it the Animal Collective a shot -- I've only tried the singles and I suspect what I'm really supposed to do is listen to an album on headphones and let it kick in. I don't think another site can coffer that, but by the way, blip.fm is pretty cool for different reasons than last, too. Its more adding and grabbing songs from the ether and cool playlists built over days/weeks.
