I love Sea Oleena! Haven't really listened to them in a while, though! I see you like Tame Impala. Kudos.

Hellow Zach! How's it going? This Sunday 2/17, I will host another radio a shift at WUOG from 3pm to 8pm. It'd be really awesome if you tuned in. I do have several themes on hand, so don't expect to be bored XD Listen through http://old.wuog.org/live/ or TuneIn... they should both work fine :-)

Ohhh look you've been listening to Thao and Mirah! I enjoyed that album with few complaints. What are your thoughts on it? Sorry I haven't replied in a long time, life gets in the way of the internet (I'm glad it's not the other way, at least haha). I can imagine Curb your enthusiasm to be a better show than seinfeld, just because i get the feeling it's pretty self serving to Larry, seeing as he was living though Jerry via Seinfeld, if you know what I mean. Also, if you're into Home Movies what do you think of Bob's Burgers? I'm enjoying it, although a lot of my friends don't appreciate the humour.

dude, thank you! Joanna's one of my favorites. and I've been listening to Kimbra a lot recently, (but my ipod listens don't scrobble on my last.fm) & I actually saw her live in April. she's fantastic. you have really great music taste. :)

HI Zach, seems like you are into Woody Allen, can't say I have ever enoyed his movies or writings, just not my style I suppose. I'm always getting into writings or music that I didn't think I liked before so I'm waiting for my a-ha moment about Mr. Allen. Have a good weekend and enjoy life since its what we are here for in my view~katiya

Interesting selection there. :) Kurt Vonnegut is particularly interesting, although I've never really taken the time to read any of his work. Any particular titles you'd personally recommend? Also, what is it that draws you to the authors you mention?

Hi, and thank you :) yeah, it sems we like a lot of the same artists indeed. And your library looks interesting, lots of artists I had never heard of - I'll have to check them out sooner or later!

I have seen Curb Your Enthusiasm, however I've been meaning to watch more of it. Larry David is a wonderful human being, really and truly. As for The Dirty Projectors, I like knowing that the musicians I listen to are genuinely nice people. I realize that this isn't going to be true for most of the musicians in the world, seeing as most human beings aren't genuinely nice people...but it still feels nice to know that someone who is making something beautiful is doing it for the right reasons. rambleramble. I don't know, I always use Arcade Fire as an example in conversations like this. While they may or may no be your cup of tea, they're just real people, writing good music, and not being terribly pretentious about it. In my opinion, they left a huge imprint on "indie music" in that they tend to be categorized as "that classic hipster band" and yet they manage to be incredibly musical. I feel like you could say the same about BSS. And oh maaaan home movies, so much nostalgia!

part 2: I also have watched all of arrested development (shpobviously), all of Daria (easily my favourite cartoon, with Ugly Americans as a close second), Breaking bad (though I haven't seen the new season), Dead Like Me, The Office, Seinfeld, My Name is Earl, and a huge amount of the Food Network. I consider myself a pretty big foodie. The Dirty Projectors....I understand where you're coming from. I can't say I've seen a lot of interviews with him in them, but I'll check that out.

Sorry I don't reply often, I don't manage to get on last.fm too often. but yes, I haven't seen nearly enough by Allen. Just Annie Hall, What's up Tiger Lily, everyone says I love you, Whatever works, Midnight in paris...and Antz. I loved Antz as a kid actually. I will catch up with what I need to watch in time, seeing as I have become a part of the %10 unemployment rate here...I have lots of spare time. As for the X-files, I highly recommend it. It has become my favourite TV series ever, and I've got 3 and a half more seasons to go! c: oohp gotta break up this message.

Well, I prefer reading Literature that is well written and is set in History. My favourite writer is Ernest Hemingway and "A Farewell to Arms" is my go to read when I want to find well constructed sentences. I also like John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath." I read a lot of nonfiction like David McCullough's "The Path Between the Seas" Ron Chernow's "Washington" and Alex Haley's "The Autobiography of Malcolm X." Those are just a few of my favourite books. In terms of fiction. I like sarcasm and witty dialogue so Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde are tops as well~

There Will Be Blood is the only movie directed by Paul Thomas Anderson that I've watched and I think I only watched it because Jonny scored it haha. I've listened to his Norwegian Wood score but I haven't watched the movie. A lot more orchestral than the TWBB one. I felt the same way after I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apart from the great visuals, it was really haunting and it kept me thinking what the ending could possibly mean.

Ah, I see. :) I take an interest in history for a somewhat similar reason, really - I study it to gain a fuller understanding of politics. It's interesting to hear that you enjoy fiction - what sort of authors, genres, etc.?

I love St. Vincent too! A had a chance to go a show but no one would go with me so I didn't. Sad day. Haha, did you go to my tumblr? Yeah I love movies, there are quite a few classics I haven't seen so I'm remedying that. Your lastfm profile pic is from There Will Be Blood? Great movie and great score. Have you listened to it?

Haha, thanks, the compliment's returned. We have super compatibility for a reason. And yes, I love anything that's associated with Studio Ghibli, so of course all the soundtracks had to be listened to.

Hmm, it's hard to explain why I'm interested in them! Ever since my early childhood, I've had a bit of a thing about maps; administrative divisions is possibly just the latest in a long line of geography-related obsessions, including countries, capital cities and transport networks. :P I'm particularly drawn to UK administrative divisions, and a lot of that probably just stems from my interest in the politics, history and geography of Great Britain in general. What sort of interests do you have outside of film and music, and what draws you to them? As for Roy Eldridge, I've never really listened to him all that extensively. A very interesting figure, though - I really like trumpet players like Dizzy Gillespie, so it would be fascinating to hear the roots of their styles in his music. :)

Ohhh my that poor girl haha. No, actually I heard of Django from my cousin who let me borrow his array of early Django recordings. I did, however, add Sweet and Lowdown to my list of films need to see. I'm not nearly as much as a Woody Allen fanatic as I should be, considering I love everything of his I've seen so far. I've been really falling behind in the fiIms need to watch, I'm stuck on the X-Files. I've been watching an episode a day since October...curse netflix for making me un-productive! As for the Dirty Projectors...I can understand they are quite difficult to get into. I really loved Bite Orca ever since I was watching an Annie Clark interview and she suggested it. This is an interesting song from another album (which has the best album cover I believe I've ever seen) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiXghPS_4xk

Ohhhhhh Andrew Birrddd :3 I must say, I'm pretty jealous of that one. Feist is cool too, although I'm not as big a fan as I am Annie Clark and Andrew Bird. However, every time I'm in an airport on one of those walkway thingers, I always sing My Moon My Man to myself. I was fortunate enough to see Broken Social Scene in my home town, that was a great show (regardless of the terrible sound guy). I'm going to see Radiohead in Toronto in June, which I'm terribly excited for. I had to choose between seeing them and The Dirty Projectors....but Radiohead won by a land slide. And yes, Django! I listen to him while reading, it's the perfect background music. also, if you haven't heard about this already: http://pitchfork.com/news/43904-update-on-stvincentdavid-byrne-collab/

I've been finding it hard to find kate bush downloads, but thanks for the advice! I need to point out that you seem to be a st-vincent-o-phile like myself. I actually travelled 10 hours in a train to see her in Montreal for the Canada leg of her Strange Mercy tour.. Best. Show. Of. My. Life. I was front and centre. She crowd surfed, and her butt landed in my hand lol! Then I stuck around after the show and met her, she was really something else in person. Been to any cool shows down there in the states?

I do have an eclectic taste! Britney Spears works with great producers and actually has some decent tunes. I do listen to different musicians depending on my mood. And in general, I'm open to a lot of genres.

By administrative divisions, I mean smaller areas within a country that have governmental bodies of their own - states, counties, regions, things like that. It's one of my many odd interests, along with railways and the UK trunk road network. :P Sorry for taking a while to get back to you, by the way - I kept forgetting about this shout!

Haha, perhaps! Still, the real question is, Is American hegemony necessarily a good thing? ;) Oh, I know where Georgia is. Most people in the UK probably have a rough overview of American geography, and I'm particularly well-versed as a result of having a slight obsession with administrative divisions. ;P So, did you get up to much for your birthday? :)

Hehe, no worries - we in the UK are often guilty of treating England as though it's the centre of the universe, so we could hardly go pointing fingers at people from abroad. ;) I'm from Scotland - the central Lowlands, just across the river from Edinburgh. Not the nicest bit of the country, sadly - lots of abandoned industrial structures and desolate former mining towns. :P Whereabouts in the states are you from? Also, was it your birthday recently? I seem to recall that your profile info used to say that you were 19. ;P

Oh, sounds good! I rarely go to see any live music, sadly - I get a bit too intimidated by the prospect of crowds and heat and excessive noise. ;P I'm wanting to rectify that, though - there's a Fairport Convention gig in Glasgow in May that I'm thinking of attending. As for me, probably not much - just finishing the course I'm working on, hopefully starting a new one, drifting from day to day without paying too much thought to the future... ;P

Yes, Arrested Development is genius, I can't wait for the movie/ new season. I may not be the most exciting of last.fm friends, seeing as my ipod is being stubborn and refuses to scrobble. I see you're pretty into Kate Bush, I've been meaning to give her a listen. What album(s) should I start with?

操作

FarqyofFib
Never seen Lost in Translation, I have to say - I'm guessing you're a fan? Ah, I have to admit to being a bit of a What's Going On devotee when it comes to Marvin Gaye - definitely one of my favourite soul albums of all time. In general, I prefer Gaye's '60s and early '70s work to his later stuff. Innervisions is a masterpiece, of course, but I think that Music of My Mind and Songs in the Key of Life would be the most prominent contenders for the rank of my favourite Stevie album. :) You a fan of Otis Redding, by the way? Ah, I've never seen Baby Snakes, sadly. I have seen a few clips of Zappa-related stop-motion animation, though - perhaps they came from Baby Snakes?

For some reason, I always think of '80s alt. rock' and 'post-punk' as being fundamentally separate - bit of a silly prejudice, really. :P Specific alt. rock artists I was thinking of were The Smiths, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain - you a fan of any of those? Funny you mention Minutement - I was just listening to some tracks from Double Nickels on the Dime earlier tonight! An all-time favourite punk album of mine, certainly. I share your appreciation of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, especially the latter - what are your favourite albums of theirs? Apostrophe is certainly a prominent contender for my favourite Zappa album, but I think it might narrowly lose out to some of his more jazz-orientated work like Hot Rats or a few of his Mothers-era albums (Freak Out!, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Uncle Meat).

When I say that I haven't found Jelly Roll to be especially well-known, I mean among people who aren't music enthusiasts. By contrast, I find that figures like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday are familiar even to people who aren't that knowledgeable about jazz. Well, aside from jazz, I listen to quite a variety of things: classical music (all periods), blues (Chicago and Delta - Robert Johnson is my favourite), post-punk and '80s alt rock, electronic music (mostly ambient or IDM), old-school hip-hop (think A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul), British progressive rock of the '70s, reggae/dub, '60s/'70s soul and R&B, British folk rock and experimental rock (you know, stuff in the vein of Captain Beefheart or Frank Zappa) would probably rank among the genres I listen to most. :) You a fan of any of these?
