His deep vocal was the paragon of growl. But this is only due to the studio magic. Because Morten actually can't sing this way alive... The album is extremely, dangerously intimate, I can say no more about it.

One of those album that I bought after the first spin in a music shop. While there's very little variety on WW and it almost sounds to me like one very long song, I really like its overall style, so I don't complain too much about its lack of creativity. Also, how come is "My Lost Lenore" so far ahead of the rest!?

My Lost Lenore is so overrated.....December Elegy and Wasteland's Caress are so much better. :) [2] and Evenfall too! My three favorites.

"ah, the 90's... back when gothic metal could be taken seriously. " At least until the mid 1990s. :)

Well, I can think of Theatre of Tragedy's "Velvet Darkness They Fear" and "Beyond the Veil" itself, but I won't choose any as "better"... In fact Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania were the masters of Gothic Metal, their first three albums are masterpieces, every one brilliant in its own way. [2]

Could anybody suggest other albums like this (similar as much as possible)? I mean something with the same proportion of "heaviness", growling, violin etc.

Best Gothic Metal Album of all times (even better than ToT's first work). Pure beauty.

THIS ALBUM IS A FUCKIN PERFECTION. I've been listening to it for about 8 years now and I still discover new dimensions, new notes and I get new feelings, when I listen to it. Great bass, great vocal combination, great, originally sounding guitar effects, great atmosphere. One of the best metal albums ever !!! Everyone who doubts it, should just listen more and more until he/she loves it. This album has no challenge so far in it's genre.

Ah I remember getting into them at a very young age, like 10 years ago or so. They just released Beyond The Veil, but I got Widow's Weeds first at the time, this album truly is their best work, it has so many classical influences. I met Morten when he was in Sirenia and I always thought he was an asshole for leaving the band, but he's a great person, and I can understand his reasons for leaving completely, since he did almost everything on Widow's Weeds and Beyond The Veil it's no surprise that Tristania has changed so much since his departure.

As soon as I took a few minutes listening to the songs on this album, I decided to buy it. It's very "athmospheric", which I iiked (and still like) a lot. The only problem I have with "Widow's Weeds"is that the songs sound too much alike. It's almost like listening to one very long song with occasional variations appearing every few minutes.
