Today "telepathy" means all kinds of "mental activity at a distance". But telepathy, according to its root words (tele- and pathos), means "to suffer at a distance," or "the feeling of the pain of another". Telepathy in this great song obviously sticks to the latter meaning. Now I wonder whether Michael Gira was aware of this or not.

There are two different «pathoses». One as in such a word as em-path, for instance. It's more about the possibility to feel, that someone has it. Another «pathos» as in the words like «patho-logical», «pathology», etc. Telepathy definitely is not about pathology, but about feeling the other. And as a phenomenon it literally means «to feel the other from the distance». And you can't use any mental thing about it, because it is not mental, it is like a feeling. To suffer at a distance has no sense, at all. But to feel someone from the distance — it has meaning and it describes everything. And it's not only about the pain, but about the other things, too. And the pain in Greek would be «algos», hence an-algesic. So, it's about the feeling the other from the distance in general, not particularly pain or suffering.

If The The had recorded Spirit of eden instead of Talk Talk, all post rock would be like this. Massive tune.
