メタリカ (Metallica) は、1981年にアメリカのロサンゼルスで結成されたヘヴィメタル・バンド（後に本拠地をサンフランシスコに移した）。初期はスレイヤー、アンスラックス、メガデスと共に「スラッシュメタル四天王」の一角と言われており、1990年代の全米アルバム総売り上げ4位のビッグ・バンドである。ジェームズ・ヘットフィールド (Vo/G) とラーズ・ウルリッヒ (Dr) らが中心になって結成された。 スラッシュメタルの先駆者としても知られ、1stアルバムではNWOBHMの影響を存分に受けたスラッシュメタルであったが、2nd～4thアルバムでは叙情的なフレージングと冷徹なヘヴィリフのコントラストを融合させたヘヴィメタルへと進化させた。 古典的なヘヴィメタルの様式美とは若干異なり、冷ややかさのある耽美的な美旋律が特徴である。 5thアルバムでは、スピードよりもグルーヴを重視した作風に変化し、当時のヘヴィメタルに留まらず、後のニューメタルやラウドロック等のロックミュージック・シーンに多大な影響を与えた。 他アーティストの楽曲のカヴァー・ヴァージョンもレパートリーにしており、シン・リジィ（『ウィスキー・イン・ザ・ジャー』）・バッジー（『ブレッドファン』など）・モーターヘッド（『オーヴァーキル』）の70年代ブリティッシュ・ハードロックや、ダイアモンド・ヘッド（『ヘルプレ… もっと読む
