There are such types of noise that you could call ambient, drone, psychedelic noise, radio static etc that you'd never confuse as harsh, "Noise" itself isn't really very useful if you're trying to describe something as it's not necessarily at all harsh. Your death metal / brutal DM analogy is more relevant to harsh noise / HNW
