Great! These last months I’ve been searching for a wide range of different music, now I am still looking for traditional music, especially instrumental. At this time I enjoy Iraqi Oud, Japanese Koto, Chinese Guqin, Persian and Hindustani music. I aspire to fill my lack of knowledge about all other traditional music around the world. Recently I discovered Gamelan music and especially have been amazed and stunned by Wayan Lotring. If you know such pure and refined music, I would be perfectly delighted!

Thank you very much for these recommendations! I don’t know anything about Tuvan music, I guess Huun-Huur-Tu will be my entry point. I had never heard of Deben Bhattacharya, do you have a particular recommendation of some of his recordings, and where to listen to it? After reading you I listened to 'The Mandé Variations': the few I’ve heard correspond exactly to what I am looking for! Thank you again, I will let you know about my listening of your nice recommendations! In regard of chinese Guqin, Shuishan Yu is for sure an amazing player, you could also enjoy Li Xianting and Zeng Chengwei who are worth to listen. Moreover I would advice you to listen to the compilation 'Master of Guqin (Da Shi Gu Qin)', in which you could find various great player of Guqin such as Wu Jinglue.

Thank you, I' ll definitely listen to your recommendations concerning Guqin! Also, I'm glad you enjoyed Toumani Diabaté's music. Well, since Deben Bhattacharya has recorded such a diverse array of traditional music, I guess it depends on what you're interested in. I found 'The Music of Uzbekistan' and his albums dealing with Tibetan music very appealing.

If you don't mind me asking, could you recommend some traditional West Asian folk music?

Of course! I particularly like Faramarz Payvar and Haj Ghorban Soleimani. There is a compilation called "The Tree of Life", in which you'll find some superb artists. I think I've found a lot of the music I listen to in such compilations. There is also a series called "Sounds of Persia" that you might check out too. I've listened a couple of times to Munir Bashir, whose music combines a lot of Near Eastern and Middle Eastern styles, and I really enjoyed it.

Thank you! You have a lovely library as well. I guess you might like Robbie Basho, since you've been listening to John Fahey. The Brazilian group "Quinteto Armorial" is also among my favorites. And I see that you listen to Veronique Chalot. I came across Dorothy Carter, whose music has a similar atmosphere so you might like her too! All in all, I'm very into indo-persian music, I don't know if you are interested in that.

I believe I came across your library through either Dorothy Carter or Veronique Chalot. I'd be really interested to know more about indo-persian music. When you say indo-persian are you referring to music only from the country Iran, or does that include Iranian peoples from outside of Iran as well?

Not necessarily bound to the country Iran; I was thinking more about the cross-fertilization between Persian and Indian traditions. There are, however, significant differences, and I'm not trying to reduce them to a single component, just pointing to a shared cultural milieu. Moreover, I find the music of the Caucasus region quite appealing, especially musicians such as Alim Qasimov and Edalat Nasibov. Have you heard Yo-Yo Ma's project "The Silk Road Ensemble"? It is also very interesting!
