As for 1979/80 Dylan, that's probably my favorite period of his whole output, especially if I can throw in 1978 and Street-Legal too. I agree that the shows were tremendous (well, the recordings are anyway) but I do love the studio output dearly as well. Thanks to Wexler, Beckett and Knopfler the Slow Train Coming versions have a very different feel from their later live counterparts, and the sound & mood they created at Muscle Shoals just *totally* hits the spot for me. Songs like When You Gonna Wake Up and I Believe in You may have gained muscle live but they sacrificed a little melody and subtlety. Or maybe I just miss the horns.

Adz is one of the most intense growers I've ever dealt with. I wasn't too taken with it at first, especially since I was still deeply in love with All Delighted People (and remain so today; that one's just outside my top ten), but eventually some of it caught. I've heard it maybe twenty or thirty times now and it's STILL rising in my estimation with every listen. I could imagining it settling in the top five down the line, even. Anyway, all this to say that if you were put off by initial listens I would recommend giving it some more time. But on the other hand, there does seem to be a split between those who love Illinois best and those who prefer the more recent stuff. I'm a diehard fan of the two 2010 records, clearly, but despite some fine material I personally consider Illiniois to be apprentice material at best. So it's possible you wouldn't care for Adz even if you gave it more time.

And as for my top ten... well, lessee... something like this: 10) Leonard Cohen - Old Ideas, 9) Swans - The Seer, 8) Sufjan Stevens - The Age of Adz, 7) Radiohead - The King of Limbs, 6) Daniel Lanois - Acadie, 5) Van Morrison - Common One, 4) Bob Dylan - Slow Train Coming, 3) Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, 2) Yoko Kanno - Stand Alone Complex 3, 1) Neil Young - On the Beach

Mighty fine list, that. I'm not as big a fan of Illinois as you are but that's the only bone I'd pick. Gonna have to check out the Ryan Adams, Joanna Newsom and Nas albums too. Thanks!

I keep running into your shouts in all the right places—probably cause I've spent the last two years listening to so much Dylan. Given your fine taste, I'm interested: what would you say your ten favorite albums (by anybody) are?

try scrobble to make you feel my love. last.fm has auto correct tagging that automatically changes it to just "make you feel my love".

Hi. Are you that Guitarist guy from that Russian band that sounds like Bob Dylan or something? Why are you listening to the Rap stuff? What is all that about? Are you from the Hood?

you've inspired me to re-create the second csny album that never was by using tracks from their solo albums in 70/71. i can't remember the exact tracks i used last time, so it should be exciting.
