(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUPGzkQ85Wk ) I sang, played the guitar/bass/synth, if you have a second to check it out I'd be truly glad! Well, if u read everything so far, thanks a lot anyway ^^ if in any case u like it and would like to support my work/see more covers, i have a facebook page which you can join (www.facebook.com/possesswithin) and sorry again, I DO know how boring it is... Hey, no problem. I think this is pretty much the pace of online conversation these days. Everyone is apathetic. Keeping busy is probably the smartest thing to do. Things aren't that interesting with me right now, honestly. I agree the price was high, but the Saturday lineup was great, other than Mogwai who were utterly insipid from what I saw. I can't people wanted to see them? It's funny that free improv is probably considered demanding to listen to, whereas I'd find it much easier in most cases than watching a band like that. I think that the lack of preconceptions makes it much easier to enjoy than watching a band play songs you don't know, especially when they seem to have no dynamic or contrast whatsoever, despite what people would have you believe. Did you manage to find a solution for Faith No More? In complete contrast the Soundgarden/Stooges show has sold so poorly they've cut tickets to less than half price. I'd be pretty pissed if I'd paid £50...

I only gave Grace a few listens, I'm sure I'll give it another try sometime... But certainly for the moment it's in my "Maybe" pile. I've been increasing my workload, which has been ok... But I'm beginning to get a bit tired. I've been driving around a lot lately doing work in Northamptonshire and all over St. Albans which is tiring. But it's a job and apparently 25% of us younguns don't have jobs... so I'm happy with that. Yeah, my friend had a spare ticket, so I'm going. Did you have any luck tracking one down?

Travel is always a hassle with going to anything, that & some of the people around. I wouldn't mind being closer to the action, but I have no idea what I'm doing at the moment. Free improv can be great, but it is what it is. I think some of the musicians just seem hung up on it as an idea, like they're avoiding playing normally rather than really playing freely. I don't find that it marries well with rock music, the big exception being the japanese scene that started in the 70s, since they didn't really share any western musical concepts. I could like The Necks, I need to investigate more. I know they've released stuff on ReR. Tråd, Grås och Stenar/(International) Harvester/Pårson Sound are generally my big heroes in anything. They really prefigured a lot of great stuff, musically speaking. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I started it intending to draw more, but just felt really discouraged by some people. I'd like to get more into it again, so thanks for saying anything positive.

Unfortunately I don't understand music well enough to ever explain what I mean, other than in specific examples of "like Band A, but not like Band B". I'm not convinced I've ever met anyone that knows what I'm saying.

I don't like gigs in Brighton. It always seems like the people putting them on & attending are awful, & there's a 75% chance they won't finish before the last train, even if they say they will. It's like what people say about London, but actually true. It's why there's no good venues left. You sound like the people commenting on he Guardian article about Cafe Oto I was reading yesterday. I've been going there for years & don't really mind it. The one guy that worked that that I didn't like seems to have gone, there's no more awful peple than at every other venue. Less in some ways. They've booked AMT later in the year, so I really hope they take the tables & chairs out. I could check out more DDBH, though generally I think the less ideas the better, which is why I mention minimalism. Improvisation & repetition sit will together with me, whereas a lot of people in the British scene seem ironically indoctrinated in some kind of Derek Bailey play spastically & never repeat yourself idea..

Ah yes, indeed. Tenebrous Forest is not my blood cousin, but if he wants to be cousins, I guess that's cool. I read an article that says the Polish have the highest average intelligence quotient in Europe, which was quite interesting. The same article said that not only do the English NOT have bad teeth, but in fact have the best teeth in the world.... Apparently it's the Polish who have bad teeth. That was pretty funny... The truth about stereotypes huh?

I think Slint are ok, they came from a scene with a lot of interesting groups. Pajo in particular is THE guy that's been in every ok band, but has never done a single thing I personally find essential. It's funny given the kind of shows I go to that I've only ever seen Alex Ward once or twice. I think the thing that's missing from every scene at the moment is some kind of minimalist free/improv rock. I'm always surprised at how few groups manage to get the balance right. I'd love to do that kind of thing but I have no hope of finding anyone that gets what I mean. I kept wanting to shout out at that Weasel Walter show that they should play some riffs. Improvising doesn't mean you can't play riffs. I live near Brighton actually, I have no idea where Peterborough is without looking. I do love the Melvins but it depends if I go see them the weekend before. I never really like going to shows in Brighton & the venue is really far from the station considering how early my train stops...

Dang. Well good luck in your hunt, I guess. At Brixton three years ago there were loads of people waiting outside hoping to buy a ticket off of people... I think a lot of the people with tickets sung Epic at them. (i.e. "You want it all, but you can't have it"). A tad bastardly really, but I guess there's just not enough tickets for everyone :(

A bit short notice for me, unfortunately. Do you know Alex Ward or just really like him? Or both? Is going to Poland a long-term thing? I'm not sure if there's much else before then I think you'd find appealing. I might just end up going to Frith/Marclay the night before FNM since it's more in my budget. I honestly don't think I've listened to a single Alexander Tucker recording - he's just always supporting shows I'm at. I liked the cello stuff he was doing a few years ago. From memory last time i saw him he was doing something cassette based. I'm pretty sure about 25% of support acts I see these days are just using tape players. I guess it's a thing these days? I don't know. They're never exactly my favourite but I am kind of jealous you saw Slint live. I seemed to miss loads of things a few years back...

I tend to think Ballard & Palmer are in the same ballpark in terms of people acting self-destructively, when life can be endlessly difficult & frustrating. I hope you can get a ticket from somewhere. I could have got a standing ticket for Brixton but I was really feeling poor... You should have said you were going to that show - I do enjoy some SRB & Alexander Tucker. Not Duke Garwood, though. Last time I saw him supporting Oxbow my friend I was with agreed that he was utterly dire, I was glad because everyone else seems to think he's amazing. I always like to have gigs in the pipeline. It's all I have to look forward to sometimes. If the premature Supersonic Festival announcement Wire made is right there should be some good bands over later this year, Rangda, Zeni Geva, AMT & the like. Hopefully I'll catch you somewhere eventually...

I'm sure I really tried to get tickets for their last show & failed, so I'm not sure how different it would turn out this time. I hope you can do it. What I'd like is if they were playing at the same show as Soundgarden so I could see everything & feel less ripped off, though that just makes me feel like they're mostly bands I listened to in my youth, & why do these old-timey bastards think they are worth so much anyway? I totally agree about sleep, though I think the problem generally is that being awake seems like a real chore at the moment. I'm obviously going to figure it out before it becomes some kind of JG Ballard/Laura Palmer death trip...

I figure they might have some held for general sale, but no.. I don't have any money, so my buddy said he'd get me a ticket if he gets one... but he didn't today cos he was doing his dissertation... Remains to be seen! I got seated tickets to Brixton a few years back and I don't regret it. I mean I'm sure it woulda been better to stand, but I wasn't going to let a little complication like "Sitting down" prevent me going. I'm pretty sure the guy sitting next to me was the dead singer from Alice In Chains. He said "kewl" a lot.

I kind of want to go to that FNM show, but seriously so expensive. Standing can't be sold out since they haven't gone on general sale yet, but I doubt I can make myself get up before it actually is. Also, so expensive. For me, that is. Why?

Oh damn... That's the day of my parents' anniversary shindig.... Grrrr... This is going to require a cunning plan. Luckily it's a lunch-thing, so I may be able to find a way down there in time. Might have to stand at the back though... I definitely won't be able to get there as early as I did for SC3... Hmmm.

My hard drive exploded and I had to start a new account cos I lost my password/email account for the below... So yeah, it's me. As with most people our age, I have listened to his son's album... But since I didn't fall in love with it, I didn't particularly venture into his father's realm. Now that you've recommended it, I'll certainly check him out. Thanks :) Oh and slow replies are fine man

Well the only bands I've really listened to who have basically 10 or less fans on last.fm are the awful, awful bands from my own school (all of them devoid of any artistic creativity... They're basically Arctic Monkeys cover bands with their own songs... or a copy of some other highly popular artist), a couple of bands that I stumbled upon via the free downloads on here, Grotus who got recommended by Mike Patton and that A.P.A.A.T. band we saw opening for Secret Chiefs 3... A.P.A.A.T. I've kinda gone off of though... I mean in Mr. Bungle all the genre shifts sound natural, whereas A.P.A.A.T. quite often I feel like it's too deliberate, sort of like it's forced. Maybe they've got better at it in later albums though. The other thing that kinda annoyed me about them was some geezer came up and was like "WOW YOU COVERED EVERY GENRE THERE" and I was like...No they didn't... But since the band were literally right there, I didn't want to say "What about Gospel?"

Well, very little does seem to be about the music anymore.... The problem is with art is that it doesn't comply with business ideals, but the world is almost entirely driven by business in this day and age and that which doesn't make money shall not be. It's a real shame that only the very lucky art/music-orientated bands seem to manage to survive nowadays... Most newer and well-known bands are just copies of old "tried and tested" bands and unlike (say) The Beatles, they never bother to branch out and experiment once they've cracked the market. If they do, it's usually pretty sub-standard rubbish, panned by anyone with half a brain cell. I try to pay attention, but obviously point it out to me if you think I'm being ignorant ;)

Oh yes, afterwards you pretty much have to go home and go to bed because it's not like you can have a good day or anything after that. Yes, I did hear about "that festival", I am very tempted... Especially as a few of my friends and my brother will almost certainly go. Don't really want to hear from them "OH YOU SHOULD'VE COME FNM WERE AMAZING AND SOME GUY CALLED TREY SPRUANCE TURNED UP AND THEY PLAYED JUST A MAN"... Grrr. Why aren't we naming "that festival" incidentally? Does it support something malicious?

Pretty much yeah... I went to Krakow a few years back, didn't try the Hot chocolate though... I remember the bells. Glad you had an awesome time. It all worked out with your "lovely host" then? Sounds pretty sweet! When I went to Krakow, it was really just Auschwitz, Wawel, the city itself and then home... Whistle-stop tour, as they say.

They released the last Coxhill show I saw as a CD. I haven't bothered to listen to it but it was a great show with Charles Hayward on drums & a couple of others... I'm nowhere near Peterborough, South coast in fact. Maybe you're thinking of someone else? I'm up for hanging if there's anything cool going on & I'm not in a cycle of doom. I'm probably around for both of those shows, Haino is back in London at the end of next month too...

Lol is a nice guy. I think that's always been part of his appeal. He's certainly covered a lot of styles during his career...the first time I saw him he was sitting in with Hatfield & The North. Have you heard the other albums they recorded together? Nothing ever changes, the holidays were ok I guess. You? It would be cool to hang out sometime. Are you planning to go to that ATP? The lineup looks pretty good.

I really like that Miller/Coxhill album. I once went up to Lol Coxhill in the street & told him I thought he was cool. He was probably just bewildered.

Hey, what's up, bro :) Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you ;), it's just I am not a very talkative person recently (it is to be changed, sooner or later... :P). I hope you and my sister have a great time with each other, conquering less or more "forbidden" and myterious places of the Isles :) Take care of her ;) Best regards, P.

Haha, oh my God, Maria Koterbska xD If you want to listen to some monuments of old Polish music scene, then you should definitely try Czesław Niemen (assuming you've never heard of him... since I didn't find any plays in your charts, it's a likely case, I guess:) or maybe I did introduce you to that legend some time ago?). A true pearl. Starting off as a bigbeat singer, he became an icon of songwriting renowned for his amazing vocal, but later in his life he explored more experimental, psychedelic and avant-garde fields. As far as I know, he refused Frank Zappa to collaborate with him... pity, I bet it would be mindblowing. Catch this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-KAakPkDDY&feature=related And the same in English: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmQzQmNy9FE It's his best known composition :)
