Thank you, Festives. I've always liked picking the odd new artist off your library, or seeing which album you've listened to most. Usually a good heuristic! Thulean Mysteries is great: simple and withdrawn, so I am drawn to it quite often. Surprising he'd make top of my chart, guess I don't 'drill down' much these days. You a fan?

I didn't know anyone still went through my library. I only just now feel like I'm getting back to seriously getting into music after a long time. As for Burzum, I've only really listened to Filosofem, but it's definitely up there as an album I enjoy a lot. I could tell just by looking at the cover for Thulean Mysteries that is wasn't really going to be like Filosofem though. It does look quite interesting, maybe I'll give it a listen if you think it's worth it.

Not a regular thing but when I'm in need of inspiration I outsource the work to a few star profiles... Thulean Mysteries is a barebones collation, but thick with sombre and thoughtful ambience. Great when brooding, or during an evening walk.

Well you certainly do a good job at making it sound compelling. I have a lot of stuff lined up to listen to but I'm sure I could find time to listen to it quite soon. It kind of looks like something that is out of my wheelhouse, which is what I need to be listening to anyway.

It's going good, thanks! Some time off work means I'm abnormally enthralled with a game: Baldur's Gate 3. Usually have no time for it. So music by the wayside lately. I did check out a few from your library though, which was nice. And yourself?

p.s. Usually you'd hear "there is no one to experience anything therefore there is no experience" from non-dualists but idk I just don't f with that...

Sounds a little like 'solipsism'. It's fun to speculate, but impossible to 'know'. At least that's my agnostic perspective. In the material universe, it's possible to establish objective knowledge and verify claims. Perhaps it's all running on a simulation elsewhere, or part of a hologram, or tangent to some other realm as you describe; but whatever its foundation, it's the only domain we can actually 'know'.

Dead-shinobi
Yeah but the difference is that solipsism says that there is only the "personal me" while non-duality says there is no "me"... and so, it's much less obnoxious. Right? That's my mantra basically: I don't know shit about shit. Life is a mystery and I love it this way :}

Got round to discovering Prince for the first time this week and was listening to "1999" and checked out the stats and saw you'd listened to that particular one a ton. Would love to hear your take on it! What's your personal highlights from the album?

That's so weird, I looked at your profile like a few days ago just to see what's up and was surprised to see you'd been listening to him lately! The title track is a good one but Little Red Corvette is my favourite. Free and Lady Cab Driver are also nice. There's actually a lot of Prince stuff I've only heard in Beat Saber which wont be on here, favourite song of anything I discovered so far is probably Pop Life. I take it you're enjoying the album?

At first I was a little intimidated by the album - I totally didn't expect it to be over an hour long, but I enjoyed putting the time in to get to know the album, although some of the tracks do feel a little bloated. I had already heard the title track before, but the rest of the album was completely new to me. Little Red Corvette is a great song and was definitely the one that hooked me into the album (as I think is the point of it) but other favourites are Something in the Water (love the dark synth sounds on this), and Lady Cab Driver. International Lover is also a fun closer to the album.

Followed you in here off your comment on Coldplay’s “Yellow”. I remember especially those first singles from the first album getting big in 2000, it was such a refresh from the nu-metal clogging the airwaves otherwise on rock radio. Those first two albums, U2’s resurgence, Radiohead, and shoegaze were my real first appreciation of anything post-punk. Then I got into Porcupine Tree.

I can't even find that shout! Well that sound occupies a special place in my heart. When I see the world around me (and hear it), anything off Parachutes sounds like it came from a distant, different time. Certainly a lovely gateway to acts like Porcupine Tree...

Haha! I love Anoushka Shankar, but I've listened to Ravi more, just on YouTube. "ravi Shankar and his beautiful daughter". In fact I've listened to Ravi while eating fungus before and it was magical. I love that video of him at Woodstock blowing everyone's minds with real psychedelic music. You see Hendrix and he's in awe. I'll need to source out some albums of either of theirs for musicbee.

In my stupor I just searched for "The Script Glasgow" ..took me too long to notice the mistake. That would be a dream just to go to any concert, especially with you, and from what I've read sounds like I'll enjoy them. we'll see :). I've listened to John and pretty much just started e-xploring hies stuff but got sidetracked by Alice. Whose the third Coltrane? Ah sounds to me like you're going to be reading some tomes, have a great time, let me know how that goes. p.s Am I doing this right, should I be using the reply thread? haha :)

I started listening to Kero Kero Bonito because I saw it on your profile, think it was maybe your obsession. Really enjoyed the first album but not soo keen on the second, although I need to listen to it more to have a proper opinion. I absolutely will do that, thanks for the recommendation, I have it downloaded just waiting for the right opportunity. In turn I recommend Alice Coltraines' album journey in satchidananda. If you haven't listened to her, it's modal jazz but with sitar and harp. Some psychedelic shit right there.

Thank you! I gave you a follow a while ago for the wonderful diverse charts you have full of favourites, things I've been meaning to listen to, and thing I really should have been meaning to listen to. A Cyberia picture seals the deal... Lately I am 'jumpy' for my own avatars, I can't settle on one...

"i loved the way it opened!.. it caused me to sit up and pay attention ~ there's something going on here i like!" This was my exact instinct, and reading you say that made me smile knowing that this album made a lot of sense to you also. The abstract lyrical content does cut deep for sure. Often it's unclear what is being spoken about but the feeling could not be captured with more clarity; there is just this sense of isolation, detachment, and the unreal. But there is a current of real events guiding along the emotions which the album runs through. It reminds me a bit of The Wall actually but it's more obfuscated and personal. The comparison to Slint and Joy Division are apt ones. I'd throw Kitchens of Distinction in there too. Very glad you enjoyed this! On the other end of the emotional spectrum I did give The Zombies a listen; good shower music. And not so depressive as The Chameleons.. :D

By the way, if you feel like you need to bathe your soul a little, try 'Gone World Gone' by Kitchens of Distinction. It's just one track, but it's a good one.

Well, I've listened to a lot of Steven Wilson over the years. I've seen him live more than any other act. Right now I'm really listening 'widely', not 'deeply', I listen to hundreds of albums each month but few of them too often - and honestly, I've been enjoying that sense of discovery and diversity in my listening. Putting a further 1,000 listens of SW or BoC aside lets me discover ten other great acts I've ignored for too long. Kate Bush, Riverside, Devin Townsend, and The Chameleons for instance have many of the feelings I found inside SW's music but with a fresh sound for me. Although I have been listening to a bit of PT, they are #11 on my charts after all. Like you would surely enjoy The Chameleons; Script of the Bridge is a masterpiece, totally overlooked as well. Anyway, your shoutbox is disabled just in case you didn't know, so I can't shout you.

I see you listen to Mogwai but only 'Kin' so far on this account... You have tried their real studio albums haven't you? If not, it's a big step up. Let me know how you enjoy The Chameleons. Their album has moved me to tears and let me dive into my own thoughts at times. Whatever they wrote about, it's something I can't put my finger on, but I am glad someone else experienced it too. When I feel like listening to some '60s rock I will give The Zombies a go. It's a band I never actually tried.

Ah I didn't see it. I just play sort of online competitive stuff. I barely even keep up with most AAA games. Although Nintendo stuff does interest me sometimes. The only problem is the locked down hardware and store prices bother me, it would cost a lot of money just for 30-60fps and I'd be irked by it the entire time. I'm hoping emulation works out well in the long-run so I can play Zelda and some other nice looking titles.

I really enjoyed Girls' Last Tour, it's a post-apocalyptic slice of life! The atmosphere is great, very relaxed but unsettling. I only saw the anime, keep meaning to continue with the manga. Dead Dead Demons is the current series by the same author as Punpun, which is why I keep expecting the story to take a darker turn. The setup is that a giant alien spaceship settles over Tokyo... and then just sits there. Occasionally smaller scout ships are sent out and the Japanese destroy them but the aliens never retaliate or try to communicate. Years pass, the ship's presence becomes normal and people continue on with their lives. It's also very slice of lifey, the characters are fantastically varied and the art is gorgeous!

Yeah - I'd been tracking my movies/TV for a year or so, then discovered Letterboxd a few months ago and managed to import my spreadsheet which was very rewarding. Like you said, it's a simple record that helps discovery of new content. I miss LastFm's BBCode support. I too had lyrics that linked to track pages, and also links to each of my 'catalogues' for games and books. I had imagery too, but I can dispense with that if they just give us back some webpage connectivity. Haha I am indeed that Vollenweider fan (I ended up on his page again and visited yours). It's an 'Interested in' date at the moment. I *may* go abroad to see him... Btw, quite surprisingly, he's been uploading new content to his YouTube channel. Discussions of the upcoming album and 'mini-concerts' from his studio. Keep you in the loop ;)

Nice, Kate is someone I definitely need to spend more time with. I've only listened to The Kick Inside and Hounds of Love, though I've heard some other songs from other albums. Yeah Script of the Bridge is a good listen. I haven't listened to any of the other Chameleons albums yet. Have you? Kero Kero Bonito is a band I know of but haven't checked out yet. I believe they were going to be going on tour with a band called Magdalena Bay. Have you listened to them? If not, check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZGscshZ_Ac ....As for me, I've been listening to a ton of new stuff. I'll try and avoid overloading you with recs, and I'll suggest a really good 20-minute EP. It's called 'Jen' by the band Plums.
