Ancient players of Guess Metal Melody! Such a long time as passed since this game was active. So, in memory of all those past guesses, I did it, I did a new round. I chopped 50 chunks of metal for you to guess! Fuck yeah. But for those who care to play, go here: http://www.last.fm/group/Guess+Metal+Melody/forum/77025/_/2240804

I listened to new MPE twice and I think it's a fine album. They managed to create their own unique style and they are keeping on releasing similar music what is not a bad thing at all. Lately I've found newest Frostbitten Kingdom's album called "The Winter War Symphony". It's ranked very high by the reviewers, I also like this newest release. Never been a big fan of FK before though. Have you heard them?

Glad you liked it! Surely one of the best releases of 2014. For now I can recommend you debut album of doom/death metal band Scapes. Of course if you haven't checked it out already :)

Well, I'm not really objective in this matter 'cause GB is one of my favourite and every single album from them is close to perfection in my opinion, but judging from reviews and overall internet feedback it's great in all respects (vocals, guitar, drums, keyboards, atmosphere, melody, lyrics, artwork). Some even say it's album of the year... So I think you should check it out sooner than later :D

Only 20 EUR for both of the releases?! It's so cheap, even in Polish standards :) Have you heard new Ghost Brigade album already?

Oh thanks for reminding me about Coprolith! I have to check out their latest album 'cause I read some positive reviews of "Death March" :)

Haha, yup. Slowly getting better by fucking up 8000 times :D New Desolator shit will have professional recording through and through so definitely. Ah, yeah.. that's the downfall for sure. Bolt Thrower and Asphyx regurgitation bigtime, still got some cool riffs and songs going.
Azioni
-
stefan86
Damn, sucks when that happens :( You're perceptive and totally right. We fucked up the recording big time and recorded with slightly different setups and microphones, so it was impossible to mix and master it properly. The guy who did it did a great job disguising how screwed up it really was. It's sad, since the songs are really good under all the recording screwups :( Haven't heard them either. Will put them on my list along with the other two! Finnish death metal library haha :D Only newer band from there I've been listening to is Decaying mostly, nice Asphyx war death metal worship

stefan86
Ah, yeah. Unfortunately that's how it is haha. Music's definitely like that, every process takes a year and your head is always in the next step :) Thanks a lot! I'm really satisfied with how that cover turned out, just fell into place with the extremity addon in every section. Had no idea how it was going to turn out early on. The thing I'm trying to is develop the project from doom/death to something more special, full length album we're recording now will feature the most extreme stuff we've ever done as well as the lightest and most melodic :) Yeah, newer Amorphis is really good as well.. I really like the combo of the catchy melodies and his über brutal voice. Great live band nowadays as well when they can combine the old and new songs with the same singer. Saw them three times in the past year haha :D I like that they're bringing the Vulgar Necrolatry in the middle of the melodic sets haha

Haha, hope it will done sometime.. the verses sound pretty cool with my voice with the pitch switch and all, the musical part is gonna take about 23498324 hours to do something useful with though. All the ethnic instrumentation and shit haha! The Desolator album has pretty weird production (and a weird mix of old and new songs) but I really like some of them. Age of Annihilation, Infernal Gathering and Antimortem Autopsy are pretty neat. Smothered is certainly rocking. One of the best new old school bands out there! I'll check those two out for sure. Finland has some cool death metal going for sure, I love old Amorphis and stuff like that. Think I heard some swedish sounding stuff do. Glad to see you're playing Soliloquium!

stefan86
Haha, always wanted to do Madonna - Frozen for another cheapter in really twisted doom covers. That one will be extremely hard to transform with all the ethnic instrumentation going on in there though :D Yeah, Ending Quest is all about being super swedish and playing Dismember style death metal :P Desolator is serious and EQ is all play ;D Some bands sound a bit tired and tributeish but there really are some gems out there! My friends in Smothered rule pretty hard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_En6JKpt-k

Thanks a lot :D I'm really happy with it too. I wanted to do it for years since it had the doom 4/4 pace in it naturally! Turned out even cooler than expected since the drummer gave a lot of input and we put in the acoustic guitar sequences and all that wasn't there from the beginning. Got a few more songs in my mind but I wanna get my originals out first :) Sweet :D Give it a few spins and tell me later, there's definitely more in there to find in terms of varied songwriting and lead guitars. The response for that one has been surprinsingly good considering it's mostly an old school tribute :) The new Desolator will be more original! Ah, yeah.. last.fm is so epic for that kinda stuff. Spent hours looking around in like page 5 of similar bands and found some pretty golden artists. Especially good when it's a genre you are not really faimilar with :D
Azioni
-
stefan86
Haha, I try my best not to make it sounds spamish and at least putting it in the places where people actually might be interested for real :) That's really epic actually. Don't think I could write a song that twisted with acoustic guitars and growls without being a cover or something like that really :P Oh, yeah.. have you checked it out yet? Will be cool to see what you think, should be a hit if you like the demos that much! I really love the whole idea of platforms like this where you can find people's tastes and recommend + check out who's actually listening to your band :) Brings whole new opportunities to find new fans and especially the right fans! As I said, just awesome that someone is listening to it :D

stefan86
Oh, so my doom spamming payed off? Awesome! Internet beware :) Soliloquium has a full length coming out later this year that will definitely beat the earlier stuff, in the studio now! Oh.. thanks. I'm at work almost blushing from the overload of compliments ;D Tell me what you think about the Ending Quest full length when you hear it, the demos are pretty good but there's definitely more to the songs on the album methinks :) Really cool when people discover my little musical endavours!

Yeah, it was always my biggest goal: to see both Turku and Helsinki in my first journey to Finland. I think when you are in one country for the first time, you should visit the capital town and the oldest city which was the most important in the country's history. It's good that in Finland these two towns are relatively close to each other. And yes, finally I found low price hostel in Helsinki. In Turku I chose camping, it will be only one night. During the way back home, I'll stay for a one night in Tallinn as well :)
Azioni
-
Toivoton616
Yeah, I'd like to see more towns in Finland but Turku and Helsinki have to be enough for me due to small budget on that trip. Well, maybe budget isn't small but life in Finland is so much expensive in comparison to other countries that I decided to reduce costs by staying only in these two cities. Yeah, London is vast. I have never been there but many of my friends visited this place and told me some stories about it. I think that three days might be not enough. Well, it all depends on what you want to see there. If you have specific taste (f.e. you want to visit only football stadiums in London), I think you can do this within three days :)
Azioni
-
Toivoton616
Maybe we'll find some time to spend one evening in one of those bars. Besides, we'll stay in Helsinki 3 days so hope sight seeing won't take all of it :)

Yes, and the most interesting thing about these two new members of MPE is that they are not from Finland. Unbelievable how they fit the line up perfectly. Well, I don't think if I have time to go on a festival (even if there is something on August in Turku or Helsinki). A small gig would be better but not quite sure either. We are going there to see sights & places, not for a music. Besides, my friends don't like heavy metal that much. Unfortunately.

Limit of words was exceeded... OG didn't impressed me that much, their album called "New World Shadows" was much better than "Beyond". Well, I don't know yet. There are not any interesting events in Poland this summer. Do you know some gigs to recommend me on August in Helsinki or Turku?

Heh, on the contrary I love Noumena's previous albums so much (maybe not counting the debut) and "DWWM" didn't amazed me that much. Perhaps I need more listens to know this album better but I'm somehow sure that I'll never like it as much as I admire "Absence". I think they lost something from their sound during this long break... Yes, I've heard "Omega Arcane". Never been a big fan of Shade Empire but I appreciate their music. It is very unique and fresh. Heard all of theirs four efforts and for me the best is "Intoxicate O.S.". Maybe because it was my first contact with SH with this album. However "OA" is also good one in my opinion, I like the conceptual form of it and the overall impression is quite positive. There are some weaker parts, but "Ruins" is one of their best songs to date. Of course, I've heard MPE and OG :) I was waiting especially for newest MPE cause they also were on hold for some long period of time. Change almost half of the line up but their music is still good.

Hi! I can recommend you some albums I've heard lately: especially 0 X Í S T - "Nil" is an incredible effort. Besides new October Falls is quite ok. I like first Noumena's CD after these long seven years of silence. And talking about newcomers, definitely Sawhill Sacrifice amazed me most. So check out all of these bands I mentioned if you like. I think that they are worth trying. I wanted to say something about Shade Empire but I saw you'd listened to their new release already. And how are you? Any interesting news? :)

Toivoton616
Definitely I think I should buy my own copy of "Risti". Their music is really interesting, it combines old EC's progressive approach into BM with more traditional, rawer sound. Hope that with every new album they will be adding some elements into theirs music.

Hi! Thanks, I listened to them via pre-listening at Imperiumi or Inferno though. Can't remind which one of these sites :) Yeah, you're right - their album is good. But in my opinion much different than EC works with Janne Kuru. I have to give them many tries to think high of The Crescent.

Well I'm still alive somehow... I do use the "Textarea Cache" add-on for Firefox to prevent such things, especially when you click out of the writing area in some floating comment box, or stupidly go to check a friend's message on FB midway through writing your essay of a post, but TextArea Cache's history is limited, and my shout was posted AGES ago :(! Way before 2013's New Year's Eve!!! But anyway... It never helps to cry over spilt milk :\ Sooooo what's new in the land of the ever-cold?! In the Desert of Arabia, we have Deep Purple coming next Saturday, and later Metallica (again), Guns 'n' Roses (Again), Blaze Bailey (in his acoustic tour, which is unexpectedly awesome!), Dark Tranquillity, Myrath, Nightmare aaaaand.... Who else... Dunno, all of these are coming between Feb - April! Also Mayhem came here for an AMAZING gig! And so did Circle II Circle in a tribute to Savatage, this year seems to be quite active and full of energy and brilliant bands so far :)! How about you!?

It looks like what you’d expect after leaving it out in the sun for a year! It looks like Ajattara/Levykauppa Äx have chosen an inferior supplier for the second batch of the shirts, and the same applies to the hoodie :\ Listening to Vallenfyre now, I can’t really say I do appreciate the guitar work that much for some of the songs, in “Cathedrals of Dread” for instance, it sounds a bit too lazy and soulless, but I still need to give them some decent listening, they remind me of early Bloodbath a lot! Which is good, but is a bit too much as it’s not helping them shaping an identity of their own. And at some parts the guitar riffs get quite reminiscent of early Paradise Lost as well, and it’s quite pleasant to listen to Mackintosh’s harsh vocals as well, somehow, Vallenfyre sounds to me like how Paradise Lost should’ve sounded after “Shades of God”! But so far so good! Not much to find on youtube though! I’ll try to dig more for their album when I get home :)!

DAMN! Lucky you! You should’ve got Mr. Infection to sign these albums for us :P! Next time you see him tell him I loved his performance with Ajattara and Taake (And I’ve just found out he was a guest as well with Black Sun Aeon!), and tell him that the quality of Ajattara’s shirts and hoodies has become SHIT. I had a Murhat CD+T-shirt preordered when I first knew about it, the quality of the shirt and the printing colours was breathtaking! Seriously! It’s the BEST T-shirt I’ve ever had! But stupid me, a drop of toothpaste smudged it in the front and bleached the black dye, rendering it “unwearable”. Then I ordered 3 T-shirts and a hoodie, the ones I was waiting to receive from Kuopio, I got them a week ago, and I wanted to cry :(. The quality of the t-shirts is just bad, the fabric sucks, the black dye is pale, the printing ink is even paler and of a very bad quality...

And for the extra cheap stuff, I've made an order of high speed CAT6a ethernet cables and crossover cables, plus 20 assorted pieces of audio adapters, each piece would cost about $0.5 and the most expensive stuff were like $3!! the shipping did cost more than the actual goods, but still it was way less expensive, and of superior quality to what I could've purchased locally!... And for the grammar, I'm a kind of a grammar Nazi, I usually won't mind it, but I really cannot stand people committing spelling or grammatical errors all the time, unlezz dey wer intenshenul ov cors!... Though it still annoys me a bit :P Bad grammar was a major turn-off with my ex... I know it sucks, it's even a bit pathetic, but that's how I feel about it :P Your English is flawless to say the least though! I can't recall a single instance were you had a major—or even a minor—problem with your language! Not that you need to freak out about my obsession with it :P I think I just had a few "Blakes" too many :P

Oh well, already started with the physio and some exercise, it's getting much better now THANK F&*@^# GOD! My mother had a similar case with her lower-back spinal area and had to have a surgery back in '93, it sucks big time and for years to follow, now I'm being extra careful and giving everyone the finger (Only in my mind, of course) when I'm asked for extra hours of work or to come over the weekend, 8 hours a day are 8 FUCKING HOURS. NOT 16!!! LEARN YOUR MATH FUCKERS!!! Uhm... Well... For the Äx, the customer srvc representative said she spoke to the packaging team to do whatever it needs to get their act together, so hopefully it would make some difference somehow :\... Well they offered the empty cases, which won't make sense to me, there's something different about original cases, esp. when it's the extra case of a single! I have my own cases here so a refund made more sense. Still waiting for the rest to arrive though...

Of course, and in Finland has to be larger choice of online shops than in Poland. Right, I know that it might be strange but really - prices of CDs in Polish shops drop quickly, especially if not many people are interested in buying :)

And for Black Mark, they were selling all their Edge of Sanity, Lake of Tears and Bathory’s discographies for $9 each or less for singles, which made much more since to me as I got everything for a cheaper price from one single seller, eventually paying even less for the shipping, and getting a good customer service and a freebie :)... And on a last completely unrelated note, I couldn’t help but notice the awful English I had in my last shouts a couple of weeks ago, blame it on haste and not having enough time to spell-check ;)

Anyway, to business, shall we?!! I’ve received the first batch of stuff from Levykauppa Äx, containing Ajattara’s Ilon juhla, Joululevy, Itse and Noitumaa, MKL’s 14 Talvea, and Lake of Tears “Moons and Mushrooms”, the packaging wasn’t protective enough for harsh international shipping, so got cracked jewel boxes and badly scratched ones, adding to some with ugly glue/sticker traces on them! And when I mailed them about it they were very helpful and they offered several ways to make it back, the most practical one was to make a partial refund, which they did :). Now I’m still waiting for the rest to arrive from Kopio, got some T-shirts and a hoodie, and a couple more CDs :)! But as for Firebox, IIRC it is the main distributer/father company of Roihu Records, which released the last 2 MKL albums AFAIK, I’ve never tried buying anything from there, but maybe it’s gonna be worth checking now :).

"Chicken Soup for the Masses: A Journey in the Merciless, Shadeless, Shameless Deserts of Abstract Medicine and Insurance of the Afterlife”... I think that’ll be the name of my next book :P... Oh well, after at least a couple of weeks running from a hospital to an E.R. to yet another hospital, and a third one, talking to different doctors, calling the insurance company almost 3 time a day, at last, I got my MRI scans done and the winner is... tatatatatatattaaaaaaaa: CERVICAL/SPINAL DISC HERNIATION! Oh well, nothing THAT dangerous though, I was told, no surgery required—yet—but physiotherapy, swimming and lots of exercise are the main treatments for now, painkillers never helped cease the pain so I don’t really need to use them (meaning I can drink again! YAAY!! Now THAT helps :D!) Anyway, I kinda hate my life right now as I wasted a week of my vacation lying in bed and I had lots of stuff that I wanted to do, which now are stacked in a neat list of procrastination :\...

I can also think of Negative Existence (Got most my MKLs from there IIRC), The Omega Order, Media Gold and Solitude Productions, but the rest of my collection is usually purchased through Amazon and eBay so I don't remember the exact names of the sellers but they are mostly US or UK based with some random German shops here and there. Hmmm... That leaves us with only one Finnish store that I could actually remember then, and that's Levy Kauppa X :\

Oh well, the practice of medicine in Desert Land is as good as a shaman healing your AIDS with chicken soup... Though the latter is less of a pain TBH... Two days spent on the phone trying to talk to doctors and hospitals, the worst customer service and lowest level of professionalism I've ever had to face in my life! Anyway... I think I'll survive this... So, for the shops I used to buy from, I used http://www.levykauppax.fi/ a few times in the past and still using it now, their prices are not cheap, but they have lots of stuff! Almost got half my Ajattara discography from there, plus al T-shirts and hoodies and other merchandise, I'm not sure about other Finnish stores or dealers, I really can't remember, but I recall buying directly from Black Mark, but that's Sweidish, got almost the whole Edge of Sanity dscography for $9.99 or less each + some free gifts from the good people of in the label, they even refunded two discs without taking them back!

Exactly, I don't understand why difference between Throes Of Dawn and Ghost Brigade is so huge. Maybe TOD uses different labels for different countries ? :) Yeah, it's definitely better to buy CDs from on-line shops, the probability of purchase an album in cheaper price is much bigger. In Poland prices drop earlier, sometimes even one month after releasing date. Of course everything depends on popularity of a band.
Azioni
-
Toivoton616
Well, hard to say. The problem is that we haven't Euro in Poland so I don't know how to compare. Moreover, I bought CDs only in Poland and I don't know much about prices in US or Western Europe. But as for the CDs prices in Poland, it depends on many things. You can find newest Throes Of Dawn album for 20 PLN but in the same on-line store newest Ghost Brigade's costs 80 PLN. Of course the best way is to buy CDs from metal shops that import these albums directly from bands. But most likely those CDs are quite underground. For example Finnish black metal is rather cheap in Poland. I bought Svartkraft 'IV - Ruin' for 25 PLN (6 Euro), Saturnian Mist 'Gnostikoi Ha-Shaitan' for 18 PLN (4,20 Euro). But albums from 'bigger names' like Swallow The Sun or Shape Of Despair are way more expensive - from 13 to 19 Euro.
