"I don't like this game, Britney's dead and I've got to get off with a duck!". Yeah, it's fantastic and Blue Rat is an obvious highlight of the series. It's quite sad to see Sean Lock being increasingly average on shit panel shows nowadays. Bah etc..... I was going to say i'll not get drawn into quoting lines from the show then i remembered "COME AND CLEAN YER HANDS ON ME COAT!" ----- Nice selection of noises btw. It's reminding me i need to revisit Big Black and Godflesh.

I don't think people understood them on that tour. Yes you do, if you like Entrench which is their most aggressive then you're bound to like reprisal, Mennonite and venerable. Word of the wise avoid Mongrel it's a bit stinky (personally) Pleasure, i think it's H's best material.

Ah I can imagine the Primavera set will be pretty amazing, as the lineup certainly is! Yeah they only played three new songs in total, New You + Only Tomorrow and ending with Wonder 2, which was a perfect closer. I really wanted to hear She Found Now though! Fingers crossed they will introduce that into their set later this summer.

I had pretty much the same reaction to the record: really enjoyed listening to it at the time, but it hasn't grown on me in the way I was hoping it would. That said, as a long-awaited follow up to one of the best albums of the 90s, it could have failed spectacularly, but fortunately didn't! Is that the Brixton show you saw by any chance? I read quite a lot of comments complaining about the sound. Last night was really good. The sound was much improved from the last time I saw them at the Roundhouse in 08. If I had a tiny complaint, it would be the predictable nature of the setlist, but it did flow really well, and the visuals/light show was impressive too.

Yes I am! New album did take me a little while to get used to - you're right, especially the first song isn't what you'd expect. It's grown a bit on me though, and live they're great (or at least used to be - I saw them last year). Also rather like the Parquet Courts album, so looking forward to seeing them support too.

They did exactly the same set? wow, that's pretty slack. I wonder what the reasoning is behind them not playing more of the new album. It's a shame cos it's a really great album and they've done that whole dismantling the stage to Arming loooooooads of times now. Time for a different set guys.

Oh sorry, didn't meant to disappear ;) Let's make sure we meet up next time (whereever that is)! Yeah I thought they were great, I also liked both of the support acts, really varied but interesting stuff. If you saw/liked them, you can get the dogfeet EP here http://dogfeet.bandcamp.com/album/shade

Yeah, it was a bloody great show. That episode where Vince tries to go on holiday absolutely cracks me the fuck up. You're music taste's pretty damn good too, nice to see another mclusky and FOTL fan around.

Oh and I was going to ask you, on the subject of Leeds bands, have you heard Humanfly before? You probably have, but If you haven't then the albums "II" and "Darker Later" come highly recommended. They've got a new one coming out in February and then they're playing a few shows with Cult of Luna. Enjoy the Minutmen documentary, especially the parts where Mike Watt gets choked up talking about D. Boon </3.

Probably not, since they're only playing Glasgow, Manchester and London like every other band I haven't seen do. Manchester is usually the most faesible since that's (sort of) where I'm from, but it costs a lot to get back there from Newcastle and it's on a Sunday which isn't exactly convenient due to being on placements etc. I haven't had any mulled wine yet! I think it would be the perfect revision aid. Here is the link since you asked so nicely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmKGusadv08. There is a Fugazi one in the related videos as well - should tide you over for your night in. And thanks for the vote of confidence! At least someone believes in me.

Sadly Mission of Burma's set was slightly ruined by terrible sound, worst of the weekend. Bob Weston from Shellac was handling it as well! Don't know how he managed to fuck it up so much. The drums were waaaay high in the mix and sounded awful. I still kind of enjoyed it in spite of that though, they played a few from Signals, Calls & Marches (Academy Fight Song and This Is Not A Photograph stick out in my memory), no That's When I Reach For My Revolver though. I need to listen to the new album more. I think if you can afford it then definitely go, with decent sound tech they will undoubtedly be great. Congratulations on your hand-in! And I'm jealous you're seeing MBV. Saw the gig announcement on facebook this morning. The library was just delightful thank you...I did manage to watch the entire Minutemen documentary while I was there. Back again now. Going to be cramming like a bastard until Monday I reckon. There's just too much to go over! :(((((((

Seeing Blacklisters with Scratch Acid would have been cool. I've seen them several times now, and they seem to be getting better and better. I saw them and Pig Destroyer at Damnation festival last month, I was so excited about PxDx but they had some technical troubles and the sound was atrocious :(. How did your report go?

That video is great, I've seen it before but it was much shittier quality. Hooray for Leeds bands! It's crazy how Hawk Eyes and PABH especially have blown up. I remember driving past the filming of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2iGSmbaesI, and I subsequently met one of the extras at uni in Newcastle, and he is now one of my best mates. Bizarrely enough I also stole a gig poster from the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds (best venue in the world) that turned out to have his band on it from when they supported God Is An Astronaut there. Mad. Blacklisters are amazing, pleased that they've started to get some recognition - they are brilliant live. Can't believe they supported Pig Destroyer on their UK tour! London must be pretty good fun though...I used to visit quite a lot and have a significant number of friends who either now live or used to live there, always enjoyed going down. No shortage of decent gigs at least!

Perhaps you are a loser, but we're all loser music nerds here so to me at least having original-pressing Big Black vinyl makes you cool as shit. My vinyl collection is still in its infancy sadly, it's student-related austerity that's holding me back. Are vetinary surgeons the same as human surgeons in that they're all arrogant bastards? I'm studying in Newcastle, it's quite cool, but it's also fucking cold. You studying in that London then? I did my last degree in Leeds, which was awesome, the music scene there is amazing. I miss it sometimes, I go back when I can - the next trip down might be for Swans actually. Dinosaur Jr. are playing at some point as well but I have a terrible feeling there might be some annoying reason I can't go...

Which is worse, fisting livestock or fingering elderly human beings? To be honest I'm not even sure, I'd be tempted to call it a draw. I don't know very much about cow's feet, is it as interesting as it sounds? Big Black are so great, I really want a Songs About Fucking shirt but I'm afraid I'd only be able to wear it after the watershed. Haha, I'm not sure how I feel about you basing your life decisions around my potential successes/mistakes...all I can say is good luck, kid. So is the Bionic Vet like your idol then? I saw about half an episode of that once, he seemed like a bit of a bad ass.

Yeah unfortunately I am still a student, one degree and just over 3 years of another down. I'm guessing you do Vet Med because you secretly think it's rad even though it's hard work and you bitch and moan about it all the time? I know that feel, I'm a medical student. Although I'm willing to bet you've got it worse. Must have some great stories though? If it makes you feel any better I've got my 4th year exams on Monday and Tuesday, and I still went to ATP...time will tell if it was a sensible decision! I'm sure The Sounds of Russia would be delightful (or, more realistically, a little harrowing) to revise to, however my iPod is currently broken and I've been practically living in the library of late. In fact I'm there now :(.

Man I am jealous. I really wanted to go to that, the line-up was immense, but sadly I couldn't due to money/uni commitments. I went to the first IBYM curated by Portishead, which was brilliant. I have no idea why they changed it from being in July to May though? May always seems to be a really inconvient time for me which is why I've only been to the December ones for the most part. MBV seem to have done a ton of ATP events so I'm sure there's a possibility of them doing more in the future - think they're curating the next Melbourne IBYM event actually. I'm just going to wait and see who the next Nightmare Before Christmas curator is, will probably end up going again! I saw Neurosis at the Godspeed one in 2010, they did 2 sets, and I think over those they played the songs I mentioned before. Only problem was the sound wasn't perfect, it was much better for them this year. Sadly I haven't had any time to listen to any of the mixtapes yet, been far too busy revising lately.

Haha cheers, that is exactly the validation I was seeking. ATP was absolutely amazing. Had such a brilliant time, way exceeded expectations. I've been every year (bar last) since the Melvins/Mike Patton one in 2008, and it's always great, but this one has probably been the best for new discoveries. Plus they organised a mixtape swap which was fantastic, a scary Russian bloke just handed me a CD with no tracklisting or any other info on it except for the title which was ominously called, "The Sounds of Russia". I also managed to inherit a Bollywood film soundtrack cassette. How was seeing Neurosis AND Godflesh on the same bill? I am exceedingly jealous of THAT. Neurosis were good at ATP but they mostly played stuff from the last 2 albums, was hoping for at least Through Silver In Blood/Locust Star/Stones From The Sky.

No probs, just didn't want you to miss a great band on your doorstep, having no money is a slight stumbling block though. Good luck with those exams, the end result will be worth it, I'm sure *shels will be back sooner or later. Turns out Mare are playing in Salford now, so that's going to be easier to me to attend. I'm having a Minus The Bear phase at the moment, my kind of indie music.

I see *shels are playing London this weekend, and next, saw them in Manchester on sunday, very good and I can't stop listening to them, again, now. It was only £6 entry on sunday, but then in London there's Latitudes supporting. Saw Gojira too last night, a great stage presence, even if I didn't know what they were playing as I barely listen to them.

I totally agree about the new album being the best thing they've done - my god, it's like crack, I simply can't go long at all without listening to it. Just typing this is making me want to stick it on again.

http://venues.meanfiddler.com/the-garage/listings/featured/7297 I like Bubblegum, I'm not sure I've bought the new album yet, don't think I have :/ I really need to get more organised. I prefer his solo stuff though. I saw him perform in Nottingham a couple of years ago, I only knew Bubblegum and Whiskey for the Holy Ghost then and most of what he played wasn't from those albums, I did pick up a live cd after from the Leeds date of the same tour, I do love that live cd. So it's only the last couple of years I've really got into ML. I've liked Screaming Trees since the 'Dust' days, recall seeing them perform on Jools Holland, that's the closest I've got to seeing them. Once again it's only the last year or so I've got other albums than Dust. Kylesa only had one drummer for the '...Middle Course' album, still some great tunes on it, was a nice stepping stone when I was just getting into Sludge.
