- Say, I know this is a bit out of the blue and forthright, but if you ever feel like you're stuck in a rut and need someone to talk to, just send me a message and we'll work something out. I can't say I'll have any answers for you, but I can listen. We're only human, and can only take on so much at a time. - Sometimes we need somebody to shoulder a bit of the load, if only a bit. We're not of little use, we're of what use we can be. No one should ask more than that of anyone- especially one asking that of themselves. Try to take it easy, okay? We'll keep in touch.

Is the public library in Chicago no good? I just looked through the catalog, seemed like a pretty decent collection. I'm way more partial to sf myself, and horror. Fantasy I like but I find it hard to sift out the good stuff from the cookie-cutter. So outside of like.. Mervyn Peake, ER Eddison, Jack Vance and Rob Howard I'm pretty clueless. Basically my question is.. advice for good fantasy (modern or not) that's not Game of Thrones or whatever?

Well if I only read Stross, eventually I could catch up to him. But if you're anything like me you have a neverending list of books that you want to read that only gets longer and longer and that you never have any hope of completing (thankfully). Do you read much sci-fi?

diSEMBOWELMENT. Sorry to be a creeper, I just read over your introduction at the truly grimlies from about 10 years ago. Charles Stross is a great author, but he writes books faster than I can read them.

Haha, no, actually, that's exactly what I was talking about! Makes a lot of sense, though... thanks for letting me know! Now I have a new way to nonproductively spend large amounts of time!

A few days ago my ride there told me he could no longer make it there. While the news didn't catch me completely off guard, it was at the absolute last second, and left me glad I hadn't yet forked over the cash for tickets myself. I feel bad we won't get the chance to hang out, but regardless of that, I'm sure it will be one hell of a show. Plus there's always next year, yes?

That's the plan. The thing is, I'm about as broke as I've ever been, and I've been having trouble with my bank lately. I'm hoping I can sell a few things within the next few weeks so I can have enough cash to at least pay for one day of the fest and some travel costs. I have a ride there regardless. Anyway, it's good to hear you enjoyed the show. I actually read a review of it the other day on one of the blogs I follow. It read like Atakke tore up the place, and that other opener... (Caste-something?) sounded like they were right on as well. But yeah, I've heard nothing but great things about Ludicra on this tour, so I'm glad you got the chance to catch them. I'll have to do so myself sometime soon, haha. So, I'm assuming Krallice was good too? Were you able to avoid any awkwardness?

Bored doesn't even begin to describe it. On vacation (spring break for the kidz) with nothing to do... and I can't even play guitar right now because of tendinitis or some shit in my left arm. Waiting on that to heal. IF it's been properly diagnosed, and IF I'm getting the right treatment (not entirely trusting of the doctors here). Oh and yeah still in Japan, for at least another year... my Japanese is still rusty but it's coming along. I'm playing in a band over here... on hiatus currently due to my injury :\ But yeah, I love teh last.fm; I've even got a scrobbler in my iPhone so I can track all the stuff I listen to on the road. Are you back in school? I take it you're still in NYC but I don't know if you're going to school there. Any plans? I have no idea when I'm gonna be back in the States next.

how's it going? I see you've been rocking some Queensryche lately... I've been addicted to Operation:Mindcrime for a while now. Fun rocking out in my car (yes, zomg I have a car).

Not as well as I like, but what're we going to do? It's not like we live in the same city and can hang out (though, that would be pretty nice). Anyway, I'm glad to hear you'll be giving Ludicra a chance. They're a unique sounding band comprised of very cool people, and deserve more attention than they get. Be sure to tell me how the concert goes!

Were I in your situation, I would go. Both because I like Ludicra's music, and because I'd want to support them knowing the shit that they had to go through to put this tour together after Mayhem dropped off the original ticket. I'm not you, though. I don't know how much you like the band, or if confronting the awkwardness of seeing the guys in Krallice is worth it to you to support them. So, it's your call.

Aye, and I'd appreciate it too. But, even sans stress-relieving quiet (or perhaps due of the lack of it), I'll figure things out. I always have before. I hope you find some sort of social stimulation soon too, ha. Maybe the Kreator show next month'll kickstart a bit for the better.

Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about you missing out on Cynic. Actually, the same thing happened to me last year when they came through with Meshuggah. I'd been strapped for cash for a while, and by the time I got some spare money together for tickets, they were sold out. But, missing out on Masvidal making a crowd of metalheads do yoga aside, at least you've been keeping up on reading. I stopped doing that intensively about a year ago, for whatever reason. Now, the most you'll see me page through is current events news and music reviews. I still write, though. Probably more often than I did back when I was in school. I'm glad to hear you've found some work too, ha. I've had absolutely no luck in that respect since the fall. So, if I might ask, what's been keeping you so quiet?

I'm really sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. Hah, to answer your first question, I've been, well, busy. Very very busy. Mainly because I think I'm being kick out of my house next month. The news came unexpectedly, so since I learned that, I've been on pins and needles trying to run from most of the stress that's been chasing me. As for your second question; to make a long story short, yes. Yes it has. Feel free to Q&A me about the details of it if you like.

Augury and The Amenta are coming through, but their playing as support for Vader in Mokena instead of headlining their own tour. Not a problem as far as I'm concerned...

He was going on about how hard it was and how he was trying to 'earn' a dime instead of the other bum shaking a plastic cup nearby. I can't remember if I gave him anything though. I was asked for money by strangers more in those three days than I had been my entire life before that. And I was up front, a row behind the barricade slightly to the left I think, so AWEEESOMEEEE

Ah, no reciprocation needed, but I'll definitely keep the offer in mind if I find myself in the area. But, like I said, get ahold of me if you feel like you need someone to talk to, or the like. I'll help with what I can, as I'm guessing you would if you found yourself in a position to do so. We're only human, and can only take on so much at a time. Sometimes we need somebody to shoulder a bit of the load, if only a bit. We're not of little use, we're of what use we can be. I think I know what you mean. I've been going through some similar B.S.- school's hard, brain chemistry is frustrating (I'm on two different meds to help with it), my mom's sick, and I'm stuck in a bit of an existential crisis. Say, I know this is a bit out of the blue and forthright, but if you ever feel like you're stuck in a rut and need someone to talk to, just send me a message and we'll work something out. I can't say I'll have any answers for you, but I can listen.
