For centuries (or at least since the invention of hot dogs), humanity has pondered one of the most ridiculous yet oddly compelling questions: Is a hot dog a sandwich? This seemingly innocent query has divided friendships, ruined family dinners, and even sparked intense internet debates. In this essay, we will examine both sides of the argument, question the very nature of sandwiches, and ultimately arrive at a conclusion that satisfies absolutely no one. The Case for "Yes, Hot Dogs Are Sandwiches" The "hot dogs are sandwiches" camp argues that, by definition, a sandwich consists of bread and a filling. A hot dog bun is clearly bread, and a hot dog itself is a filling. Case closed, right? The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) even defines a sandwich as “a meat or poultry filling between two slices of bread, a bun, or a biscuit.” Since a hot dog fits this description, it should logically be considered a sandwich.
