It's one of my favourites as well. That's true, I don't know, I guess at the time it was quite unusual not to have guitar solos. Maybe they just didn't feel capable of writing any decent solos, or they just thought their songs didn't need them... not sure. Oh, and did you go to that Aura Noir gig? I didn't, sorry.

Yeah man. It's awesome melodic/old school death metal, gotta love the production. Sacrificed is a really cool song too, one of my favs from it. I'm glad they did the intro this way, goes along well with Darkday. It's not your typical 40 sec boring synth intro, I hate those, haha.

I know how it feels, you can't move for the entire show or you'll lose your spot, it's really annoying. Hopefully I'll get to see Agalloch next time when they play a bigger venue. Aura Noir are great. The Merciless and Black Thrash Attack are pretty damn good albums. I may go to that show if it's not sold out.

It wasn't packed at all, there were around 200 people (Underworld capacity is around 500), I guess, which was nice for once. Underworld is horrible when it gets full, that's for sure. They played most of Transcendence into the Peripheraland and 2 or 3 new songs. How was Agalloch? I was gonna go, but in the end I decided not to.

Sure, it's an excellent album, my fav from them. I instantly liked it when I first heard it, since I enjoy listening to weird stuff (think Sigh, Mr Bungle etc.) :) I think they did a bit of everything on that album, it's well balanced. You went to that Inverloch show? Shit man, me too. I literally just got home, haha. They were awesome, as expected. Their new shit is pretty impressive too, btw.

I am in love with it -- everything I've listened to from him sounds like a masterpiece. Lately I've been having problems downloading albums but I was going to try out Winter in America next.

yea by all means, I'd love to read that journal. AH Pink cookies in a plastic bag remix, I need to get that. The video for that song used the remix as well some reason. One of my fave videos ever. O and Floyd, what you think their best album is Dark Side right? That's the best Rock album ever recorded.

I've only listened to a teensy bit of Hot Rats; I haven't quite gotten around to listening to much of his stuff either. Peaches en Regalia is such a fucking rad song though. What about you? Any recs?

Well, a commenter on last.fm once said that every song on The Nightfly sounded like Deacon Blues, and while that isn't too insanely far off the mark, the songs on The Nightfly are shorter and cheerier in comparison to the beautiful sprawls on the Aja album, for example. Some of the songs also sound a bit like the stuff on Gaucho, likely since Fagen penned The Nightfly on the heels of Gaucho's release. The jazziness inherent to any SD song is in Nightfly, for the most part, but since it's a concept album based on Fagen's own childhood/adolescence, there's a little less of the sardonicism, arguably, that's become a hallmark of SD, and more optimism/romance (I.G.Y. blinded me with its radiantly subversive cheeriness on my first listen). Plenty of irony though.

Well Gaucho sounds quite different from all of the 20th century Dan albums, but it might be closer to Aja than the rest. Though I wouldn't necessarily recommend either Gaucho or Countdown, say, to start with, so you might fare better with Katy Lied first.

Which one do you like more? You might enjoy Gaucho but that could go either way. I think you might like Katy Lied too.

Yeah, 5:55 is fucking amazing. Air pointed me in her direction; been a fan of their stuff and when I learned that they penned the songs on 5:55 I decided to take a listen.

It was a llama, eating a llama, eating a llama... So I suppose it didn't directly involve weed, although I'm sure its creation did, and it looked cool as fuck whislt high.
