That depends on the amount of music that you want to carry, from the mainstream ones the Zune would be ideal because of its space and all its media capabilities. The sound from the Cowon D2 is pretty damn good, and with a set-up like mine you will enjoy it even more. The good thing about the Cowon D2 is that you can use sd memories, I have two 8 GB ones + the internal space of 16 gb and that has worked pretty damn well for me. If you have the money and like something a bit more fancy get the S9, has much more space and has many other capabilities. At the end depends on wether you are in for sound quality and so on. The D2 has a wolfson DAC while the S9 doesn't but it provides you a far more variety of sound options.
