If it has time to scrobble, it's too slow and therefore should not be categorized as fastcore.

"PV and fastcore are different in my mind, people just conflate those terms, as well as fastcore/thrashcore. i think fastcore is shit like siege and charles bronson, just hardcore sped way the fuck up, whereas thrashcore has more metallic influence, like cryptic slaughter or early cap cas. and PV throws in sludge, like infest and crossed out" +1

Anyone wanna give me an example of this so-called "L-beat"? I'm picturing a sped up skank beat. I like having names for types of beats.

"I guess it doesn't really matter genres are descriptors not scientific classifications." +1

I thought that thrashcore wasn't metal influenced hardcore (that's crossover thrash) and that thrashcore and fastcore were really the same. Although power violence is a derivative form of fastcore/thrashcore that as you said throws in sludge and grind. I could be wrong though, I guess it doesn't really matter genres are descriptors not scientific classifications.

Nicely put fetus, but some of the tags are virtually synonomous. For example, when I lived in SolCal this music was refered to as Power Violence, where as in Philadelphia people call it Fastcore.

all color's originate from the 3 primary colours. fast, aggresive music is the same way. different elements of punk, hardcore and metal, make different sub genre's. at the end of the day it doesn't really matter, but man is the bastard is very different from fuck on the beach is very different from arsedestroyer. thats why all these sub-genre names are important.

fastcore, powerviolence, thrashcore, grindcore, hardcore....they're all just different shades of a color we call punk right? but pink is most certainly not scarlet which is most certainly not magenta; the lines are blurred because there are definite ties and cross-influence between the styles...

I also noticed some newer bands using the fast core term to describe a certain sound or part of a track or even using the term in a title like Insult, FOB and The Path. None of these bands are fast all the way through, they all have sludge parts. It just goes to show fast core influenced everyone from Power Violence to Death Metal and almost all Grind Core bands. Bands like Larm and Siege are finally getting their dues.

fastcore was used to describe bands like Larm, Minor Threat, Deep Wound and Seige long before people used words like Power Violence and Mince. Grindcore and PxVx bands like Brutal Truth, F??k On The Beach, The Path, Rhino Charge and Magrudergrind have also kinda adopted the term to decribe a certain kind of track or riff in a track. Whatever they are all great forms of music.

thrashcore / fastcore refers to blastbeat-based styles of fast hardcore. there's a big musical difference between Heresy and Black Flag..........history lesson: "thrash" was a term used by 80s punk zines to describe hardcore punk before "thrash metal" ever existed. the term became synonymous with "thrash metal" only after the mid-80s mainstream popularity of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, etc.

I hate this shit. sub-genre of a sun-genre of a sub-genre. [2]....minus the spelling error.

sludge is a sub-genre of doom metal. many powerviolence bands use sludgey breakdowns like crossed out, man is the bastard, hatred surge, the endless blockade etc. my understanding of fastcore is it's basically PV minus sludge elements... so just fast hardcore hence the name. 99% of crust has no doom elements. that was kinda left field haha.

I thought Doom had something to do with metal and not punk? Maybe I should stop being a whiney prick and nitpicking? Yeah, maybe.
