I dunno, eclipse's more streamlined sound is more forgettable to me, but agree on the first two albums being superior to this one

yeah i get that, i actually really like some of the ideas in eclipse - a lot of the riffs get more progressive / melodic in a way that's more similar to their first two records while also just being like straight up djent/metalcore and it's probably their most consistent and concise album imo

Still, eclipse's production has mansoor's fingerprints all over it: all of the chuggy parts started to sound basically like periphery, and while I like the sound of periphery's debut album, can't say I want to hear it in a vom record. I mean, TCMC and [id]'s chuggy parts were constructed the same, but sounded more like meshuggah (or at least like alol's "a great artist"), like I understand that periphery were influenced by meshuggah too, but their dry and buzzing guitar tone is kinda weird and gets old very quickly, I don't really like it beyond some select records and think the scene got oversaturated with it in like the first 3-4 years (I'm glad metalcore revival happened, djent was keeping the metalcore scene in a chokehold for far too long)

Also, a couple of guitar/synth parts sound suspiciously like born of osiris of that time period which, again, is fine in the context of boo's music, but I don't fancy hearing it in vom's repertoire

All in all, I liked that eclipse expanded back upon the prog dc parts, but that time around the overall sound was just too derivative for me. I mean, songs like "the glass side" or "vicious circles" are total bangers, but I'll take [id]'s more weird and quirky sound over it any day. But hey, maybe it's just me being too hung up on the past

Nearly 1/3rd of my VoM scrobbles are Codex. I swear to god that is the best deathcore song I have ever heard.

What an awesome album! Some great melodies indeed. But the vocals on The Common Man's Collapse were better IMO :(
