Ha! I kind of guessed you might have learned My Dashing Darling - it's a classic one! Even Sting has recorded a version! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auSa0YfkxFE Totally agree with you re Guðrið - her work is much more appealing when pared back to a simpler style as evidenced by most of the songs in Beyond the Grey. Oh and do you know (you probably do) that the glorious Kate Bush has recorded a song in Irish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7vQpaVzcKU I shouldn't really say this given the breath of her opus but it is actually one of my favourites.

Comhghairdeas! I rather like this famous one which I often hum away to myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ojy1W6r8L0 (sung by a mixture of Irish and Scots Gaelic artists: our native tongues are mutually intelligible). And while we're on the subject of melodies from misty, green islands far up in the northern hemisphere, may I recommend the music of Guðrið Hansdóttir from the Faroe Islands, particularly from her recent album 'Beyond the Grey'. I think you may like her. Bearhugs, C :)

Hey man, nice tastes. I notices on Sister Suvi's page that you commented about one of their ep's, New Orange Bike. Do you have a copy of it? I can't find it anywhere.

I had a sneaking suspicion that you just might like Ólöf :)..and I see above that you have *loved* Jonathan...it has quite an old fashioned Irish melody about it...too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra. She's amazeballs! Knus og kossar as Ólöf would say.

Well actually the Koopman I have is his recording of the St. John Passion. I do, however, spend most days listening to Bach Cantatas, but as sung and played by the Bach Collegium Japan. I found a bunch of those CDs at a Yard Sale a few months ago. The Cantatas have some pretty great moments in them, eh?

EEP! Michael, let me be the first to congratulate you on such an auspicious milestone! I hope it will be the kitchtastic, 'ausserordentliche tolle' camp fest that you always imagined filled with chessy hosts, even chessier lyrics, lyrca, spandex, uber-innuendo and the odd Irish ballad replete with tin whistles and flame haired maidens. Also, ich hoffe dass du dich sehr darauf freust! Don't forget it is not just Saturday - the second set of semis are on tomorrow. Oh and if you haven't done so, I'd really recommend that you listen to John Grant's 'Queen of Denmark'. Gruessen and all of that to you in hip Berlin! C.
