Presently I am consuming only Ukranian folk songs played by Leeds-based indie bands.

We'll never be super compatible with you having Celine Dion in your charts. You really need to do sumat about that :-) Sorry to hear bout the depression, that's cack. I had a problem with that when i was 19-22 ish. It was hard. Moving helped in the end. Different scene, different people, new start. You like the Cocteau Twins. Do you ever just turn off the lights and close your eyes and put Victorialand on? I used to do that a lot, as I remember.

Did i actually write that? Oh, aye. oops, sorry :-? We's ok ta. The chilluns is growing and doin what they do. Little Michal's a crawling ferret right now, no socket, cable or drawer is safe. We need eyes in the back of our heads. Him and Maja keep us pretty busy, though I did go out......a week ago last Thursday. That sounds pretty sad I know. How's you keepin'?

Hey Sammy. Long time no speak I know. Lastfm has cut off my radio stations. All of them. I don't live in the UK, US, Australia or Germany, so I'm not worth bothering sorting out the copyright and such like for, presumably. So, lastfm is now just a record of what I listen to on media player whilst preparing my lessons, and not a radio wotnot, except when I pop back to me folks in the summer. Arsin' chuffin' shite, basically.

I didn't go, unfortunately. The mate I thought would go with me had picked that week to go to Cornwall and my bro had a baby imminent and didn't want to go out anywhere unnecessarily. Dashed inconsiderate of him. I could have gone on my own, and if it had been Talk Talk reforming for a one-off concert or sumat then be sure I would have, but in the end I couldn't be bothered to go all the way into London on me tod. Shame, but there you go.

Completely hadn't noticed it. And you've just passed the big two oh, by the looks of it. When I was 19,20,21 I used to go to concerts in London pretty much every week, sometimes more than once. Top...errr...sumat offhand might be: Cocteau Twins+Seefeel in Wolverhampton 1992 Bark Psychosis (about 5 times) in London early 90s No-Man in Shepherds Bush 2010 Mudhoney, Tad and Nirvana at the London Astoria 1988 Sonic Youth + Mudhoney 1989 Underneath What + Chapterhouse London 1989 or 90 Loop, London 1990 Julia Marcell Krakow 2010 But I could swap most of those for 50 or so other utterly fantabulous gigs without a problem. And, of course, there's the festivals too... :))

Morrrrning. Gorra mass of paperwork (read computer work) to do, and thought I'd stick some of those bands you mentioned once upon a while, on youtube while I'm at it. The first tired pony song sounds lovely. Never heard of them, but I will definitely hear 'northwestern skies' again. Cheers :) Uh, i suppose it's not remotely morning where you is...!

Of course Madamoiselle, for what it's worth. To be honest, I've not really paid them any attention since about... 1998? At some point they just got boring, to my ears. Offhand I can't recall any song title or tune of theirs since Whats the Frequency Kenneth? so I'm clearly not yer man for more recent stuff. I also found Green dull and Out of Time not much better (save for Losing My Religion) which I'm aware separates me from most REM fans so you might want to give them a go anyhow. I reckon 4 LPs of theirs to be essential. They are: 1 Murmur 2 Document 3 Eponymous (which is an 80s compilation) 4 Automatic for the People Document is the rockiest of the lot but is hardly Guns and Roses. It's also the one that I got into first. But Murmur is better I reckon. Good to have you back :)

Well the point was that i dont really know which you should start with, but you could try 'happy sad'. Like i said though, if you dont like that one dont write him off unless you simply dont like his voice. Not heard of that compilation you mentioned which makes me wonder if it wasnt a US-only wotnot. I just had a quick look but it doesnt seem to be listed here. Originally anyhow, the song's from the first This Mortal Coil album, It'll End in Tears. It's great isn't it? :)

His Greetings from LA, I once had on tape and remember not liking it all, hence my not owning it anymore, but it was a long time ago. It's hard to recommend a starting point so perhaps a compilation would be best. He has an incredible and specific voice which some people don't like, so you might find that the music doesnt even matter and you dont want to listen to anything by him...

aye, back, and on track. been a bit busy lately. paperwork is taking over the world and resistance is futile. as for tim b, well he's pretty variable so one lp doesnt tell you if you're gonna like the other stuff at all. i love happy sad, which is folk jazz i guess, in the same bag as 70s John Martyn or someone. The live dream letter collection is great too. The self-titled lp is pretty trad folk to my ears and mostly bores me. Starsailor has his most famous song (Song to the Siren which Liz Fraser sang, beautifully, as This Mortal Coil) and, like few other albums, sometimes i love, others i cant stand. Trout mask replica by Captain beefheart would be another example. It's pretty out there in places.

It's a boat down at the docks viewed from outside the flat i used to live in, in Lisbon. The boats used to wake me (and the rest of the neighbourhood presumably) up with bellowing foghorny type noises at any hour of the day or night. One time i popped outside to have a butcher's and there it was, in the darkness looking for all the world as if it was sat right at the end of my road. G.P. is short for general practitioner, the name we give for a standard family doctor. Don't you just play a grand piano by hitting the keys...?

I found out some things you might be interested in. :) Remote have an album called "Opening Doors", which has Postcard on it. The mp3 edition even combines Shift + Postcard together to give Postcard a nice immersive intro. Reach Out is also an amazing song. I'll have to buy these tracks sometime since it's the only way to get them. Also, Vangelis - Antarctica. I found out there's a rare japanese print of the album which has every single track he did for the film. There's only 8 on the official albums you and I have, but he made 16 more tracks! I'll be downloading them gradually and I'll let you know what they're like. :)

Blimey, you been banned from Wikipedia or sumat? :) I'm no expert on them, but i love their first two albums. After that a couple of tunes didnt really suit me and at some point i stopped listening out for them, though perhaps i was wrong to do so, i dunno. They mix a love of classic 60s girl group pop and electronic sounds. It's classic pop but totally modern sounding and with a real emotional pull at times, despite the on-the-face-of-it rather shallow sounding vocals. Somehow they just fit. Next up in the occasional series In a Nutshell will be... :)
