most of the time his lyrics are great, and with time take on a meaning as real as anything. the best example imo is wowee zowee. i know it took time for me to get into that album even though it sounds so immediate now, yet it is hard to accept that the same may be true for wig out. the lyrics sound like a parody of themselves, like he is trying too hard to be malkmusy. and i agree the music is not interesting enough to tide me over until i get over/into the words. i have an irrational fear of sun kil moon and related projects. on paper they sound like a band that i would like and they are so acclaimed i'm afraid my expectations are too high. i guess the same thing happened with rem. lol they may be out of fashion but i listen to steely dan, so..

my response, pretty much. i got a hold of the singles (lariat and cinnamon) before i heard the whole album and i thought those were ok and meh, respectively. i haven't had the desire to relisten to the album either. i want to love it. i want it to be the best thing i hear from 2014 before most of 2014 happens, like m b v. so far all i can say is that it's better than beck's morning phase.

Yeah, Colin was fantastic! I'm super glad I got to go. Didn't end up going to the of Montreal show, although it is my dream to see them live! I've heard pretty awesome things about their live performance, complete with glitter, streamers and on-stage shenanigans. Next time.

How'd you enjoy the Colin Meloy show the other day? I won tickets last minute and decided to go!

I don't check this thing much anymore so I just saw your post but...it was incredible. Andrew Bird shows typically are, but the acoustics of the cathedral with the spinney horns and lighting just made for an even more magical experience.

Father John Misty had one of the best albums of the year. His solo stuff (J Tillman) is pretty rad as well

I see you have a string of amazing shows lined up. Enjoy Jens and Cat Power for me, I guess Bob Dylan too.

i thought that pavement was pretty well known, even among people who weren't super into music. at least everyone's heard gold soundz right?

dude so i played gold soundz and spit on a stranger for an open mic last night and no one in the crowd of college students recognized them. REALLY?

i've never been more pleased with myself for never exploring coldplay. back when i was in high school, they were all over the radio, but i was more interested in the red hot chili peppers and mj :D i probably just like the bends because it's the least radiohead sounding radiohead album, except pablo honey, which i also find okay. no ripcord is a fave. (but does she taste like the real thing? gotta hand it to thom for that vocal performance. one of the best.)

i'm sure you've heard of the ok computer/in rainbows mashup trick then? it's supposed to be really neat, so i tried it but got terribly bored half way through. i wouldn't call myself a fan of radiohead, because most of their stuff i've never clicked with. and my favorite album is the bends, so radiohead fans would also not call me a fan. haha
