DA OCTOPUSSS – Polypus ad eternam – Two brains coming from the depths to establish a new world order.
Getting acquainted with the duo amounts to facing an iron curtain. A facebook page launched in the winter of 2012, fed as of only a few months. A nucleus of fans gathered around tracks sparingly distilled on their platforms ; a religious silence in response to the questions fueling the mystery surrounding their project’s origins.
But now, from aboard their submarine, moored to their mechanical arsenal, Da Octopusss intends now to make their voice heard.
As a prelude to the release of their album, a teaser of just a few seconds escaped from the depths last November sets the tone and frees 35,000 worshippers from a feverish wait. Dark lighting, apocalyptic imagery, spectral infectious bass which would make an encephalogram implode ; Da Octopusss arises. Behind their extremely realistic yet disproportionate octopus masks, they proclaim :
« We come from deep down / We listened to your music / You can’t party on that shit / Time has come to bring you the music from under / From Da Octopusss / We’re gonna rock your place, cause this is not fucking acceptable / Be ready ! »
A scenario worthy of a B-movie which prophesies, however, to blow away some of the most pious soutanes. The warned ears of the first listeners didn’t need to be asked twice, spreading the Da Octopusss virus on the web at the speed of an electromagnetic wave. Across the globe, from Kingston to Tokyo, from Miami to Puerto Rico, through Poland or England, an ever increasing audience rises with one voice: who are they? Where do they come from?
An unanimous questioning probably due to the fact that, in this matter, there is no law. What artist today can boast gathering so many fans around their project so quickly without any media support ?
A few clicks on their Soundcloud and Youtube channels suggest the magnitude of the phenomenon :

Constantly searching for clues, the most adventurous ones quickly realized that these hardened-steel productions, highlighted by a mastering set by a swiss clockwork, beared the stamp of a combo with heavy legacy.
Indeed, as well as the signature of the scores and soundtracks from Banlieue 13 & Ultimatum, Taxi 4, Fighter in the Wind, or Dikkenek to mention just a few in the EuropaCorp team, they lent their savoir-faire to several cartoons and commercials for internationaly renowned brands.
Is Da Octopusss a side project lived as an outlet or a genuine desire to emancipate themselves ? Anyway, their words « We come from deep down » suddenly become clearer and it is indeed « in submarine » that these two mentalists have towed each track of their album.
Irreductible collectors of quantum mechanics, they have plunged their guts and talent in many analog synths and other Neve Melbourne consoles - the real ones know - to extract their essence. Here the synths are treated as guitars to blow a rock energy into electro sounds for example. Another oddity in this day and age, the digital serves the analog and not the other way round. Proven by audience receptivity, the recipe works fabulously!
The result is an off-format album outside of any diktat, a manifesto in 11 verses on the edges of incendiary poetry and strangeness. A martial and furiously organic odyssey, a grotesque carnival where Chucky and a Michael Jackson back in the days of Thriller, arm-in-arm with Carrie would rub shoulders in the world of Clockwork Orange. Decency burnt on the altar of disguise, in short, a great emotional outlet, and we really need it.
Today, the fate of Da Octopusss will inevitably emerge on the stages of the biggest worldwide festivals. The staging and imagery to be developed around this complete work are only limited by their imagination that we already know to be sprawling. An experience to live « eyes wide open », the five senses erect. Already active in DJ set format, keep your calendar at hand because they won’t come knocking at your door to warn you now the attack is launched.
Scientists, alchemists or plain crazy ? After all, the bottle does not matter as much as the drunkenness…
