Just realized you asked for set times, not a set list...oops. But good choice on the Thursday show, I thought it was pretty great, and stronger than a strong Wednesday show.

yeah i did, i thought it was very good, but it was my first time seeing them live. isaac seemed into it, which was cool (no one yelled out "play your old stuff", so he was happy i guess). they opened with dramamine and paper thin walls. off the top of my head, they definitely played bukowski, gravity rides everything, wild pack of family dogs, cowboy dan, fire it up, fly trapped in a jar, the good times are killing me and lots of others. there was, I believe, 1 new song, which was okay, and I think a bob dylan cover? also, they came back on for a two or three song encore (education and dashboard?), after the crowd kept cheering for at least 5 minutes.

So this new Hot Chip is really worth the listen, eh? I haven't been fully immersed in their music in many years, but I'll surely check it out when a proper rip surfaces. Haha. Ah, yes, the early aughts alt-rock. Staind was another mainstay, as we've mentioned before. It's funny to see these bands are still presumably thriving, even if to a lesser degree to genre kings Nickelback. Isn't the great expanse of music baffling? Like, for instance, how have I only now listened to Townes Van Zandt? Or, how does one person overwhelmingly connect with music that many others cannot? And it's great how a friend's reinforcement or a respected review can push an artist further into your conscious. Music will always be a shared pursuit, which is why I really had a late start in expanding my knowledge (around HS graduation and on), and why sites like last.fm are so appealing. But yeah, I have jobs to call, lunch to eat, things to do. I haven't even really begun listening to music today. What have I become, and when did it all go wrong (or have I been all wrong all along)? These are the questions we face. Etc. Hey! Nearly 1000 characters. I can make it. This is it now!

So it's a Radiohead day? Coincidentally, yesterday, a friend and I kept using Radiohead song titles in sentences for the hell of it. Eventually, I realized making up more crap wasn't exactly putting me on the "Fast-Track" to my fridge where "True Love Waits." True love, in this case, might be a PB&J sandwich or some cheese crackers. I simply don't have enough "Dollars and Cents" to buy anything futuristic to eat like sardines on spinning plates. Anyway, can't see me writing on Nickelback's debut (1996?!), but I did own that one popular album when I was roughly 16. Even at that age, I spun it a couple times, then promptly tucked it away. Doubt any of this answers your initial question, but I felt like expounding on the issue. You have some high profile shows lined up, I see. Enjoy!

In this heat, it's pretty damned refreshing. Ever since I saw Girls live, I've been turned off to his music (worst show last year), but the new song is nice enough. I'm still waiting for that St. Vincent single. That - I'll be interested in. Also, the sax is nice on the M83 track, but I'll wait for the full album to really listen. I'm not always much for singles.

Yeah, if I had to pick a day to go, it would be Friday. I would die if I got to go...totally worth the 7 hour trip!

diplomats son is my favvy vw song just fyi (saw you just listened) yeah January is pretty much the only time of year that we have shitty weather, I'm sure it's nothing compared to what y'all get up there, but it's still not a good picture of how it is here. Also, there isn't anything going on in January. Pretty much any month but January would be a good month hehe :)

Noappendix is right, there are sooo many nightshows you can rsvp to for free. And there is so much cool stuff to see in Austin. Lots of different things to do at different times of the year. idk if it's a bad thing that you're calling me out for saying totes and deets in the same sentence.

yeah its about $550 for a music badge, and $140 for a wristband. But if you plan ahead, you can hit all the dayshows for free and most of the nightshows for a small cover, like $10-$15. Some nightshows are free if you rsvp in advance. After the increasing number of badge/wristband only shows every year though, I'm slightly leaning toward the wristband option.

Hey I've seen almost every band I wanted to see at SXSW the past 3 years and I usually spend about $30 total in entry fees. Its been getting worse every year though in terms of things that are wristband/badge only but still, it hasn't prevented me from seeing everyone due to all the free/sponsored shows abound. Having Paste Magazine go broke sure won't help the situation though.. they had some great free dayshows.

that's cool. yeah sx is becoming more and more commercial and therefore more expensive. there are so many free things though, just gotta know where/how to look. if you happen to be coming for that I'll totes hook you up with some deets when the time comes.
