Descripción

“Pictureplane has an amazing way of ambitiously mixing unexpected styles and noisy/smooth cross-genre sounds to create some of the most effortlessly catchy (and impressively DIY polished, living/breathing) dance tracks.”
-Stereogum

“A Rubik’s Cube of creative intensity… shows enough personality to stand out from the faceless swath of laptop auteurs…live performances may entail winding himself up in Saran Wrap, lip syncing to Madonna, or dancing to his own beats from behind a synthesizer.”
-The Onion A.V. Club

“…there are enough lo-fi footnotes, grab-bag genre references, and sprightly hooks to draw in a variety of listeners.”
-Pitchfork

Travis Egedy, a.k.a. performance artist Pictureplane continues to be a growing force in the electronic scene to be reckoned with. He made Stereogum’s top 50 albums of 2011, with Real is a Feeling noted as one of the most downloaded songs of the year. His electro-rock accolades date back to 2004, with the release of his self-titled album Dark Rift (the first of seven), and as of late he has gotten nods via remixes of his latest album Thee Physical from the likes of Crystal Castles, Health, Grimes, Teams, and Ghosts On Tape.

Hailing from the Denver underground music scene, Pictureplane got his start by remixing songs of said contemporaries, gaining critical recognition as one whose sound is better than the originals he samples from. His style fulfills the full spectrum of the electro genre, ranging from the slower tempos of dub step to the rapid fire staccato of house, to the more fuzzy chillwave sound that’s cropped up in the late 2000’s. Songs like “Solid Gold” bring to mind a psychedelic Disneyland Electric parade, while others (Sex Mechanism) evoke Toro y Moi’s basement creations with a bleeping videogame twist.
