Descripción

Part of Fairy Tales & Monsters - curated by Arctic Circle

Saturday June 11 – Hall One 8pm
The Age of Not Believing Orchestra & The Real Tuesday Weld

The Real Tuesday Weld – The London Monster

TRTW’s Stephen Coates was described by The New Yorker as “an English-speaking Serge Gainsbourg rolling around Tin Pan Alley with synthesizer in hand”. His group deal in bold literary and cinematic themes, all of it dispensed with a debonair flourish. This evening they premiere a forthcoming album – the ‘soundtrack’ to Glen Duncan's novel The Last Werewolf – and promise “music for fairies, plucked from other existing and upcoming TRTW work.”

The Real Tuesday Weld are joined for this performance by Marcella Puppini’s lyrical Weimar Baroque’n’Roll ensemble, Marcella and The Forget Me Nots. She prowls about the stage, crooning a lullaby to the lover she has just murdered. Yet she is not afraid to show vulnerability or heartfelt emotion, singing gently of lifelong love.

Age of Not Believing Orchestra (with Puffin Voices)

The extensive AONBO features members of The High Llamas, The Red Clay Halo, Homelife, Grasscut and Beth Orton accompanist Ted Barnes, alongside an array of vocalists including Emily Barker, Stephen Coates, Dale Grundle (The Sleeping Years) and a narrator, Dom Coyote. Together, they perform a suite of “spine-tingling music that delves into people’s dreams and memories”, comprising beloved children’s songs and specially commissioned compositions, arranged by composer Harry Escott. In addition, artist Louise Phillips will be making ‘live’, instinctual drawings in direct response to the evening’s musical performances.
