Here's an anniversary present for you (e.g. available on itunes): ... genre: minimalism/experimental -> ... And at your place ?

Lol, the more suggestive BUCK-TICK songs are fun. They can be really catchy, like スズメバチ ("Suzumebachi" on Memento Mori) and 原罪 ("Genzai" on Mona Lisa Overdrive). But for me the more suggestive ones are often written/spoken in really masculine, vulgar language that I don't like to listen to too much. There's a time for it, and a time not for it, for me. ^_^ In my humble opinion, it's more aggravating than hearing "fuck," lol. I'm plenty forgiving of Kon Satoshi and filmmakers like him who make imaginative movies that have drawbacks; one can be forgiving and analytical at the same time. You don't really have to have education in gender studies to know sexism when you see it, and by pointing out the flaws in any work of art, you get to know it better and more honestly. Once you're woke, you just can't close your eyes to offensive things like that, because those kinds of beliefs are inaccurate and hurt people.

However, you can criticize them viciously and still appreciate the work. I just know that, for me, as a woman, it's not just annoying seeing sexism, ableism, heterosexism, etc. in works of art; it's actually painful and compounds trauma. It puts big dents into people's psychological well-being, and that is very important.

Films and works of art are always political -- films especially, because they are distributed through the "mass media." We learn so much about how to live into society from film and TV, so the impact needs to be understood for what it is.

Now, as someone who studies Japanese history, culture and language, I can actually tell you that Japanese society was not designed to function strictly as a man-dominated, utilitarian, heterosexist society. Japan was relatively extremely egalitarian from pre-history (when Japanese culture was matrilineal, meaning the family line and land goes from mother to daughter) up to the point that Buddhism (a patriarchal religion) was adopted in Japan from China (around the 15th century, I feel like). Japan was also open to homosexuality until Westerners started forcing Japan to westernize and adopt Christianity (also a patriarchal religion). And feminist civil rights movements are prevalent in Japan, Korea and China much like they are here; feminism and women's rights are certainly not a Western thing exclusively. So I can criticize Kon knowing that I am not trying to set a new social standard in the East based on Western bias.

Hey there! I just saw on your comment! I'm sorry!! If I had seen It before, I would have replied to you earlier! You told me you wanted to get into Goldfrapp- They're amazing! My favorite album of theirs might be "Felt Mountain" or "Supernatural". They're known because of their electro-pop sound. Their debut is a little bit more ambient-oriented. Glad to share music with you! :)

Thanks for writing me! I saw your messages and am eager to respond; I'm just bogged down in papers. (omfg.) You can always tell when I'm writing papers, because I binge-listen to the same three songs as a routine to get into my writing hypnosis, lol. But I'll get back to ya soon. ^_^
