A lot of his albums are pretty awful because they were made back in his days of being a heroin addict and he made them to get money to fund his addiction. Although his first album was only released when he was an addict, so no idea what happened there. So a lot of it is out of tune nonsense that he didn't really care about. I think his first album after all of that was To Record Only Water For Ten Days, so anything after that is pretty good. The Empyrean is my favourite album of all time, it's so amazing. Recently he's been getting into electronic music because he feels like he knows everything about rock guitar, it's fairly weird at times but I really like it - but I am a fanboy so it doesn't mean too much :P

I don't listen to a single artist that isn't "cohesive", whether by cohesive you mean musically well orchestrated or written. Some of it isn't studio produced—ie low fi—but that's a distinctive sound, like surf-rock or just your everyday basic low fi. It makes sense if you're just not a fan of it, but the people I listen to that aren't "well produced" is usually because they're not friggin rich and already paid/verified by pitchfork. They're trying something new, and that's not even saying they're failing, you have to wade through a lot of actual noveau shit to get to the good. The same could be said of your music; on the whole you have good taste, but some of the stuff you listen to is boring, uninspired pop music. Ps Zak Laughed isn't even one of my top artists. Pps Zak Laughed is pretty damn legit Ppps... Sam Roberts isn't
