How bizarre, how bizarre, [track artist=omc]how bizarre[/track]. ;^) Yeah, I think she's an interesting person with an interesting artistic approach. She's very open, very innocent, with a strong basis in traditional folk. Did she seem nice in person?

yeah! They were absolutely amazing on Saturday, really enjoyed seeing them. I've got four of their albums now - there was an offer on them at HMV a couple of months ago - and I listen to them quite a lot, great stuff! I see you're going to Mariee Sioux, are you a fan? I'm possibly going with one of my friends, I hadn't heard of her myself.

It's a shame, but all the big festivals over here now are so commercial. Glastonbury always seemed a bit less so, but when catering for 150,000-200,000 theres only so 'indie/un-mainstream' you can get away with. I've heard alot of praise for some foreign festivals, but then you've got added expense of travel, accomodation as well as the possible language problems. It's been about 8 years since I was last at Leeds festival, and even then it was getting out of control. This years glasto havent many confirmed yet, but its looking like ... Muse, U2, Jack Johnson, MGMT, Stevie Wonder, Faithless, Hot Chip, Vampire Weekend, Wolfmother....

yeah, Emily Haines is in Metric, it's substantially different to her soft skeleton stuff - faster and more rock-y. I like both though. I don't drive either though I sometimes go to gigs in sheffield or leeds and then stay with friends or in a hotel - partly cos it's good to get away from hull sometimes! The only thing I've got coming up this month though is Chris T-T at the adelphi on the 17th - he's a singer-songerwriter who writes songs about british life and injustices in it (a bit like billy bragg..). it's not musically adventurous by any stretch but I enjoy his lyrics- I put him on at a venue in birmingham when i lived there. Also I might go to the open mic night at adelphi tonight, there's usually something good on. I can't stand psychedelic music for the most part, I guess even with 'very high' compatibility on here we have some differences :P Do Make.. are brilliant, probably my 3rd or 4th favourite band. Haven't seen them-had the opportunity once but not enough money :(

No Glasto is not definite. Usually Feb - April more tickets go on sale, so I was thinking about it but so far the line-up hasn't got me that excited. Last year they had Blur, Neil Young, Jarvis, Nick Cave, Regina Spektor, Fleet Foxes, Eagles of Death Metal, Tindersticks etc. The cynic in me doubts whether this "40th anniversary" special will top that. And besides, its really expensive.

You can never tire of VU&Nico. Well I find that. Yeh, I went. It was packed. I wasn't expecting much, but some friends were interested in going through. Turned out a great show, good material and a great set of covers. As Smigs so rightly said earlier, they played unplugged amongst the crowd, it was pretty awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhDIzoLA6JQ&feature=youtube_gdata is some footage my mate took of Donovan's 'Universal Soldier'.

Hi there! Sounds like you missed First Aid Kit. Shame, as they were decent. Are you a fan? My mate picked up a cd, so hopefully I'll get chance to listen to it sometime.

ah that's a shame you didn't go :( well, their voices were very powerful & impressive, and the atmosphere was good. They really warmed to the crowd, they did some songs without using the mics so everybody stayed really quiet so they could be heard, it was lovely :) plus the music's simply really nice to listen to! I forgot to buy a cd at the end though! whoops.

An old campaigner of the little independent club scene I think - a wayfarer travelling around with his battered nylon-stringed guitar on his back. http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/music/homegame/2009/artist/men_diamler That was about all i'd heard before I went, but the Jacques Brel cover was enough to assure me of some credentials. Play a song by a phlegmy Belgian and you're doing alright in my book. I listened to a bit of First Aid Kit and was intrigued. Scandinavian teenagers singing of lost love and world weary balladry? Too much 'Laughing' Len' Cohen perhaps! That's no bad thing though.. During Melt Banana and Adam Green at Adelphi I sweated from pores I didn't even realise I had... all to look forward to!

no idea how much they get paid, you'd have to ask the promotors! If you're over from the US and touring in Europe, I suppose you'd take whatever gigs you were offered just to get the word out there... and sometimes the turnouts very good, other times not. I'd guess musicians get used to it (or stop touring!).

I thought she was pleasant enough, so I forked out the currency for her latest CD. Look forward to giving her songs a second listen with more lush arrangements. I actually thought it was a decent enough turn out last night, I saw not-quite-signed-but-still-ruddy-good Men Diamler there a couple of weeks ago and he was tremendous, but me and a mate made up about 1/8th of the audience. Intimate and personal, like many of my favourite pastimes.

I did indeed. I was the mainly-seated elven chap, looking on with a mixture of intrigue and reverance. Did you have fun? I was forced to sink a further two pints to mask the taste of the first dreadful one. A much used excuse. Although this one did taste like it'd been left behind a radiator for the day. Emily Jane was quite lovely, although I can't remember a single song - except the couple i'd listened to before going down. Hurrah for free music!

It can be quite dead at the adelphi, people don't seem willing to go see new bands unless they've had a recommendation.. I think there will be a fair amount of people on Friday though, as there seems to be a good amount of buzz about First Aid Kit (someone even told me it was sold out, though this is blatantly untrue). Was Emily Jane White good? I was tempted by the description given on the adelphi facebook page but I wasn't feeling 100% well yesterday so I decided against it.

yeah, I'm going to First Aid Kit with a friend who's quite excited about it, I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet. Not been keeping up with new music very well of late, hopefully I'll find some time to listen before Friday! Modest Mouse are great. I saw them a few years back, very good gig. I think my favourite album of theirs is probably The Lonesome Crowded West. I like all of their albums though, even the last two which some fans don't like. I see you listen to quite a lot of Pavement. Where should I start with them? I'm going to see them in May (at ATP), but I've never really listened to them at all.

I don't think my photographs are anyting like his, but he inspires me all the same. He travelled across america in the late 70's, with a huge amount of film, and a cheap 35mm camera, and photographed everything, the beds he spelt in, the places he saw, the people he met, everything, and the collection is really quite stunning. He inspires me not only to find beauty in everything, but to travel, and make the most of my time here. Thank you though, you're very kind.

Poetry is personal, it's about what it makes you feel. If other people feel something from it as well, then that's good, but I mean, really, it's just for you, so I wouldn't think it mattered whether or not other people like that particular one. I think it's great though. It's simple, but that adds to its charm, and from those few words, I get a really strong image in my mind, so it must be great. I've never actually listened to Kate Bush. I suppose I should. I understand. I'm just applying to Uni now, and there's so much pressure, it's pretty scary. I don't know if i want to go this year anyway. I'm awfully bored with where I am now. I want to move, to travel, to see the world. Well, I seem to take the best photographs when I travel somewhere new. I see everything clearer when I'm away from what's familiar, so I suppose I am influenced by new places, in many respects. Theres a photographer called Stephen Shore, who I really love.

Good choices. Favourite band? That's incredibly difficult to decide upon. If I'm feeling pretty down, it's always going to be The Smiths, but if I just want great music, probably Modest Mouse. I always seem to be able to turn to them, and feel inspired, or uplifted, or some other emotion which only they can evoke. I know what you mean. Whenever I listen to a song or album a lot, I start wondering if my time might be better spent listening to new music. There's nothing quite like listening to an amazing song for the first time. Thank you, you have fantastic taste yourself. I used to listen to dreadful music a while back as well. I've been through almost every phase, from emo, to rap, to reggae. I guess that the music I listen to now is what I'll love for the rest of my life though, it just feels right. It's one of the very few things that make me happy. You don't sound like a maniac.

Oh good. I think Long Drive is probably my favourite album of theirs. That or LCW, but it kind of depends on whether I want heavy, or mellow. I know Long Drive has it's heavy parts, but it's a little more melodic at times. I completely agree, Tundra/Desert is amazing, I loveee the part where Isaac screams "Ahhhhhhh Shit". I'm not usually the type to love screaming in songs, but I just love that part so much, and then it breaks into the heavy part. Amazing. Haha, Yes he did. To be honest, I prefer to music before he joined, but whatever. I don't think he suits modest mouse. The Smiths are a long way away in terms of sound, and it must have been hard for him to bridge the gap. He's with The Cribs now though. I saw him with them about a month or two ago. Haha, I have no idea about seasick steve, sorry. Ugly Casanova are good too. There's a song called Hotcha Girls which is pretty amazing. I think you'll like it.

I didn't speak a huge amount to Eric, but Jeremiah seemed really nice. He was quite quiet, but that's to be expected really, he's suffered with years of depression and such like. I can't really remember what we spoke about, but I enjoyed it, and I got signatures and whatnot. It was brilliant though, they've had such a huge influence on me, and to meet them was just awesome. Um, most of the set was new music, which wasn't amazing, but I mean, I still enjoyed it. I think Custom Concern was my favourite song that they played. Dramamine, 3rd Planet and Tiny Cities were all great as well though. Oh, and Parting of The Sensory. Yeah, LCW is a great choice. Umm, you're missing This is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about, and the Interstate 8 and fruit that ate itself E.Ps. I think Interstate 8 is amazing, it's really my favourite release from them.

No don't worry, I understand. There's very few bands that I've listened to and immediately understood, it always seems to take a while, and usually, it's worth it in the end. I actually managed to see them, I caught the train down to London and saw their show at Sheperds Bush Empire, it was pretty special to see them, and I waited around after and met Eric and Jeremiah. That made me super happy. Ahh, it's so difficult to choose favourite, but certainly something from before 2000, maybe Whenever I Breathe Out? or Trailer Trash? I don't know, it's so difficult. All their songs pre-good news are amazing. Now, most of them are good, but there's one or two I don't like so much. How about you, do you have favourite song/album?
