Hey Trex, when you talk about those bad, bad NW clones on the Nightbox, whom are you actually having in mind? I always feel that despicable generic NW clone band, while invoked all the time, is more of a myth, because people almost never mention any specific band except as counterexample (NO NOT U). I'm more annoyed that no "clone" actually DOES sound like NW. The only band I know who actually acknowledged their debt to NW right from the beginning on is VoA, and their debut rocks anyway. The follow-up, though even cheesier, is a bit of a guilty pleasure to me. Who else? Amberian Dawn? Katra? Imperia? New Xandria? (I can see that one) Lunatica? One of those really, really obscure bands that even I have barely heard of? How are they able to do any significant harm to the genre in the first place? Also, isn't cloning the way a (sub-)genre forms and grows? The constant complaints about NW clones never made much sense to me. What's so bad about their existence? BTW, you live near Hamtramck?

Considering how much last.fm clearly loves their pet hipsters, it's surprising they haven't invented some stupid fucking device that allows people to scrobble vinyl. OH I KNOW how about an app that allows you to take a picture of your record, and then automatically detects what shitty (insert generic alt-rock band from the 90's here) album it is and scrobbles it automatically.
